When sewing flimsie material,it helps if you place tissue paper between the two pieces as it stabilizes the material. Then just tear it out gently when you are done. You can also spray the tissue (the kind you use to wrap presents with) with water so that it tears without stressing the material.
The least amount of cutting....I love it. Simple and easy for sure. I have hundreds of vintage scarfs from my old career days that I'll be sewing my way through...Thxs...great tutorial.
This is a great idea. It seems (to me) that it would be much easier to cut and hem the front first and they sew it all together. With 'my luck I would nick the back if I waited until they were sewed together. I can't wait to try this myself.
honestly have seen many diy on kimonos but i sud say u have shown it super simple n dey can be made in vry vry less tym .... U NAILED IT AND I REALLY LOVED IT .... SUPERŔRRBBB
Thanks Becky !! I'm so glad you liked this project and are planning on making one :) Kimonos are so expensive to buy, yet they are so easy to make. Thanks for watching and I hope you have a WONDERFUL weekend! HUGS :)
Been sewing for years but never tried this before with scarves.... Super cute and you made it look easy. This is definitely going on my to-do list. Thanx
yolanda bridges I'm so happy you liked this project Yolanda (you have such a pretty name) !! After seeing this type of kimono being sold for $30 or more in the stores, I just refuse to pay them much when they are so easy to make ! Thanks for watching and I hope you are having a WONDERFUL day! HUGS :)
6862211 I find most of my big scarves at Estate Sales but you can also find them really low priced at places like Charming Charlies (when they have their sales) and Walmart. Thanks for watching and have fun making your new Kimonos :) I hope you're enjoying your day! HUGS :)
@@AjsVintageDesignsnot silk scarves in WALLMART! Close to impossible to find silk scarves nowadays. My mother had many when she died and I didn’t think of this…but they were long thinner ones.
I love this idea. I see scarves I love all the time, but I'm not a scarf wearing kind of gal. The only thing I would have done differently would be finding the center of the front scarf, marked it and quarter stitched on either side of the mark before attaching to the back. It would make finding the center easier afterwards, and folding the hem of the frond quicker and easier.(also no fraying). I love that Paris scarf and am so glad you kept it whole.
Thanks Penney !!! This was an easy thing to do and I see scarves everywhere in thrift stores and estate sales are also a great place to find them too. Thanks again for watching and I hope you are enjoying your day! HUGS :)

I would have cut the kimono front first and finish the raw edges first. then see front pieces to the back piece matching the sleeve edges. then sew the kimono side seams.

I have a beach wrap that for been so pretty i never used at the beach. Now it will have a better use...i can wear it on top of my bodysuits, cami, etc. I saw the at stores for 25...Big thanks again. I do not miss any video from you.
This is great, but I'd like to add an easy way to get a much more pro look on the hemming. It only takes a bit more time and thread, but is simple. First fold up say 1/2" and press that with iron on low. Then sew right next to the fold with a straight stitch. Hopefully your tension is set right on the machine and you have a new small sized needle. Then take some sharp scissors and angling them a bit, carefully cut off the excess fabric fairly close to your stitching. Then you can fold again and stitch right on top of the previous line of stitching. This has a few advantages with slippery fabric. 1) you are showing it who's boss right from the beginning and working with a more stabilized area. You probably wont need as many pins either. 2) Your hemming will look especially attractive with see-through fabric because you won't see the inner folded piece (because you cut it away). The folds won't be fighting each other or going wonky either (or less likely to.) Hope this helps. We appreciate the time you put into this great video!
Would be great to know what size the scarves are to be able to make it from purchased fabrics too...its beautiful. Definitely should fold that front edge hem twice to give it some strength and keep it from stretching out and or ravelling
Two ways to make self belt. Below arm opening, stitch into fabric and *then* down...resulting in more of T shape. Cut away excess and use those strips for belt. (This would also eliminate some of the fabric volume.) Another option, once the front center cut is made, make additional cuts on either side, to the total width of back neck, and then fold and seam those strips for belting. (For this option, only seam shoulders to the outermost point of cuttings so strips aren't seamed to back.) Hope this makes sense.
I think Kimonos are in vogue again........I'm gonna make this one. How much material am I looking at. I'm so glad they have old videos on here. They still apply! You did a wonderful job explaining how to make this! Thank you and God Bless! (Bev 6/23/2020) Cleveland, Ohio

YEAH !!! Send me a picture if you make one....would love to see it :) Yes, scrap fabric would work great ...just make two large rectangles the same size and it would be the same concept ..... Love it ! Thanks for watching and I hope you're having a FABULOUS weekend! HUGS :)
Awe- Amy - that is really cute. You amazed me about not having to cut a neck hole. VERY NEAT! I always have trouble when you put your needle in your vey first stitch -it wants to poke the project down inside of the needle plate. I noticed it did not do that with you-what do you think ???? Thank you so very much for your time and beautiful project. You are So Snazzy! ~smile~ linda
As far as your fabric getting stuck down in the plate when you start, first you need to make sure you're using the right size needle (Chiffon fabric : 60/8 or a 70/10 needle ) You can also use a straight stitch needle plate (smaller hole plate) on your machine that will prevent the chiffon from getting sucked down into the needle hole. If you don't have a smaller hole plate, put some tape over the hole then lower the needle several times (no thread) to make a hole in the tape. This will help keep the fabric from getting stuck. I hope this helped :) Thanks for watching and I hope you had a WONDERFUL weekend! HUGS :)
