Very simple to do - I have performed this on my 2008 Subaru Legacy 3.0R and it worked as described here. I cut the BLUE with Black stripe - left enough length on both side to patch it in the future if need be with a wire splicer. And the reason I did was to install CRE LED lights for my High Beams, which are used for DRL at a lower wattage. If you replace the standard halogen bulbs with HID or LED, they will flicker when the DRLs engage. So the DRLs must be disabled for HIDs and LEDs to work correctly.
This worked for me too. The wire is easy to remove from the connector, just stick a pin down inside from the wire side to release it. Look at it with some good lighting and figure it out. The side of the connector itself has a locking mechanism which is also easy to pry out with very light pressure.
It was explained in the video, " if some one would like to upgrade their lights to HID's your DRL have to be disabled " and I can see a few reasons more if its a bright day out you have the option to turn off to prolonged bulb life and a slight fuel economy :) might wanna sneek in somewhere at night you also have the option to drive in dark mode etc...
The "older models" comment for the entire white wire harness worked for my '06 outback. Fog lights and high beams still work. Thanks for the video. p.s. Don't chew gum while making videos.
Daniel Carlson you said it yourself, you have an 06 all you need to do is unplug the harness. for 07+ (like the title of the video says) you need to cut that wire. relax bruh
By the way if you want to disable that annoying seat belt beeping every 20 seconds no matter if you drive or stand ... turn your ignition to ON position and click it in and unplug it 20 times with in 30 seconds and you will save your self a headache or 2 =) ( Always buckle up when driving )
nice video! hate it when cars will not turn off lights without the fucking E-Brake. The connector was pretty easy to take off. just slowly work it out from sides and middle. I used needle nose pliers to pull the wire. for all the jackass's that get mad over this.... we can still drive with our headlights on. and if you cant see a car cause they do not have their drls on you should not be driving. also people who need their brights should not be driving.
I was surprised at Subaru recently. I wanted the Daytime Running Light (DLR) "feature" disabled a condition of purchasing the new car. I was ready to write a check for the full amount right there. They said no. No matter what... they would not do that for me... The salesman freaked when I showed him the money, almost started crying. Sales manager tried to claim some non existent law. ... so another manufacture will be getting the new car sale.
To disable the seat belt sensor, just unplug the connector under the seat.... (dont need my seat belt when i drive around on my property or when I am sitting in my car waiting....
So I did this, and nothing happened. My brake lights and plate frame lights are still on and I'm kind of confused o what I just cut. I cut the black and blue wore and taped it off, the. Rep lugged the harness. Car is a 2007 Legacy Gt
Next time get rid of the gum. It's very very annoying listening to someone chewing and rolling the gum around in your mouth. Not to mention it's bad manners to do that. I believe the manufacturer should have just had park lights come on for day time safety. Headlights cost too much and park lights are visible.
Can anyone explain how to back the wire out of the plug? I've read everywhere that you can put a small flathead in and push so the clip doesn't reattach itself every time. I have had no success.
DRL's are completely pointless. Why do we need our high beam bulbs on at very low power during the day? If you need someone's DRL's on to see them then you shouldn't be on the road to begin with. Plus if you convert your bulbs to HID or LED then you have to disable them as the low voltage/amps will mess up the ballast.

OEM xenon/hid equiped Legacies/Libertys have no drl? Or do they use foglights for drl like later XV does?

Connor McCord just cut it and re wire if needed
Please forgive my ignorance but why would you disable this?

ok thank you
Your video was helpful
But the gum chewing is disgusting
