    Couldn't have come at a better time! I am beefing up my new to me 3rd gens 48s. It was just rebuilt for a tow app before I got it. I am just adding the billet shafts, DPC stock stall triple, flex plate but am going to run the clutch packs that came in it till they puke, they are gpz clutches and still new. I just pulled the trans apart for the first time ever and you weren't kidding about it being easy vs the mental gymnastics I was putting myself through. SO Simple lol, My other truck has a Firepunk comp and I love it but I think doing it myself is so cool, seeing what actually makes these things hold is cool stuff. Thanks again bro I wouldn't have had to courage to dig in without your videos.

    Do u run a flat snap ring in the forward drum or wave snap ring.
    Also do u block any of the valves in the valve body?

    Is a bind more prevalent at different Rpm’s/ throttle input? My fmvb 2-3 shift is hard and firm under heavy throttle, under low (cruising speed) throttle the shift is tame making me think I have a slight bind. Great video thanks so much!

      I should also mention I have my tv cable set 3/4 of the way back.

  • @wheyez1
    @wheyez1 Год назад

    Ok Josh, how dose that binding feel when you’re driving it?
    I would also like to change shifting RPM’s and lock torque converter in 3rd. In fact I would like to increase the transmission throttle position to turn up the pressure a little for stiffer shifts at lite throttle applications. What would you advise? I’ve got the valve body upgrade and a triple disk torque converter. It shifts great at 3/4 throttle, but I don’t like hot roding all the time. PS I do have an edge CTS3 tunner, and Edge said they only do trans tunes on fords. But if there was enough interest they would do the Dodge too. This channel could push the interest, with all the following family.

    You can also put more or less springs in the high gear piston.

    • @horsetorquesdiesel
      @horsetorquesdiesel  Год назад

      Have to be extremely careful with that which is why I left that part out. Depending on piston diameter and drum brand

    • @paulkriskov2979
      @paulkriskov2979 Год назад

      You are correct. The timing is altered by the things you said. I used the HEMI front drum with 15 springs and the 5.0 lever. (Standard HEMI car, that is where all the HP parts are from) The overlap is terrible. But it does not burn the front clutchs or the second gear band. The best thing is to use a high-quality valvebody, but NEVER restrict the high gear passage. Always leads to front clutch burning. You need fast apply high-gear. And try to get the second gear Servo to move faster with the longer levers. (4.2 were on 62-64 MAX WEDGE, 5.0 on 66-71 HEMI) Maybe even open the discharge port for the second gear servo. Good content. Keep it up.

      @@paulkriskov2979 LOL I could listen to that kinda tech jargon for hours. Please continue with any other info you got from the old hot rod days. I mean Hemi's were making big power on these trannys decades before Cummins was a thing.

    question, if I run 6 frictions for overdrive housing and to meet clearance need to get rid of the wavy snap ring do I need a special new selective flat snap or if clearance is 85 thousands would it be save to say I'm good on clearance...?

    What's the firepunk spec for direct clearance? I have a small flare and I set the clearance to .085

      @joshuaquilliam2887 Год назад

      Try messing with the band adjustment in small 1/16 turns. I had this same issue with my Firepunk comp 1 after about 500 miles it started to flare going into 3rd. I played with the band a bit and it went away. Shifts great, the harder you ride it the better it shifts.

    48s are quicker to return oil on release side of servo. 47s you can get away with dual spring servo setup like your saying, i dont use dual springs on anything anymore. im usually about .085-.090 now on direct clearance with factory 9 return spring count. Bands usually 1/4 allen head between pin and lever or 2 turns sets you about 1/4 gap. i havent been using a ton of tcs servo kits anymore. mostly just sonnax servo cover w oring and a billet accumulator, with goerend 3.8 lever kit with hardened strut and anchor. i use tgo kits for my vbs. But i dont do fmvbs really or any real HHP trucks.. im surprised you haven't built a relationship with goerend yet for valvebodies and converters being out west that is.
