EDIT 21/07/2019: After being allowed to keep the video up (but monetised by WMG) for two years, I assume the record label's copyright policies changed - recently my video was blocked in all countries. In order to save it, I've had to completely replace the audio. The video doesn't make sense at all anymore but I recommend muting the video and playing the original song at the same time for a more authentic experience. I know this isn't ideal but there's nothing else I can do. We had a good run on this video while it lasted :')

Ok so this is my first ever animatic and it took about three weeks (in between my GCSEs lmao). Despite rushing the end and a ton of mistakes/ inconsistencies I can see now, I'm proud of my project and hope it marks the start of more to come! I also can't thank Gorillaz enough for doing what they do. Thank you Damon and Jamie for inspiring myself and the rest of the world. 'ppreciate ya :) Watch the very very end of the video for a "treat" for reading the description... You may have to play the video at x0.25 speed haha.

this is art! i have possibly never seen such a beautiful animatic, with such attention to detail. you seem to incorporate your own great ideas into one piece that perfectly expressess the feeling and 'meaning' of the song. Its also a sow of how a fandom can produce some of the most beautiful creations for something they are passionate about. You seem like an extremely creative, interesting, lovely person who would spend their time and this incredible project. I agree with you in the description, thank you so much to damon and jamie for inspiring so many to be so passionate.
I have to say, when i saw this, i was blown away by sheer talent and skill. I still get an amazing feeling rewatching it until im pretty sure i could act it out, like a script memorized in my brain. Its just flows so well, each part sliding into the next, bringing the whole thing together.
Can i just take a paragraph to mention the background, the detail, the insane perfection of everything? The absolute thought that went into making this is astounding. This is just perfectly like any of the official gorillaz videos.

Finally! Somebody acknowledges Russel. I feel like he gets ignored more often than not so it was nice to see an animatic predominantly dedicated to him. Stellar animation and a brilliant effort for your first animatic. So much attention to detail
This song actually suits Russel really well. With the horrible past that he's had, there's probably a strong pull for him to snap and just become evil, to hurt everyone who threatens to hurt him instead of fighting the urge. Combined with the words, this song always gives me the impression of someone who's hurt and trying to not become someone evil, trying to not spread that pain to other people, while their demons, their fears and doubts, prey at their mind, asking to be "let out".
It's a cool contrast with Murdoc, too, who let those demons take over to a certain point, hurting people and withdrawing emotionally, so that he can't be hurt himself. He struggles with it and wishes it wouldn't be like that, but that's a story for other songs.
Sorry for the essay! Good job with this animation, I love all the effects you used and its style is so much like a music video, instead of just an animation!! Also, your drawing style is very similar to the original, kudos!!

I feel like Humanz was meant to be written by the whole band and was like, a collection of tracks they made in their spare time with friends then mashed together. This track for certain would have been written by Russel.

I mean, it's actually probably because he's the one the fanbase as a whole is likely to identify with the least, at least aesthetically. 2-D is the frontman and all the female fans want his dick, Noodle is the one girl and all the male fans want to fuck her (notice how she was emphasized a lot less before she hit puberty?), and murdoc is arguably the main antagonist and yaoi crack-shippers love to ship him & 2-D, so that just kinda leaves Russ as your typical drummer-no-one-gives-a-shit-about. Lot of broad generalizations there, but hey, that's mainstream marketing for ya. It's a lot more equal the deeper you get into the Gorillaz lore, but when it comes to the music videos and stuff people who aren't already fans are gonna see, Russel is just less marketable.
But you know, could just be racism.

All I can say is how. This animatic is amazing between the art and the story. It's just perfect! I love how you made Russel the star when it easily could have been someone like 2D (even though I love him to death), and it all just fits together so perfectly! I loved this song once I heard it and was pretty disappointed at the fact that they didn't even have a storyboard or something for it, but then I find this! Something that can easily be passed off for one, which is incredible! Thank you for making this amazing piece of work

I love how it centralises around Russel. I feel like he's usually left out a lot, and I personally see it as Russel running away from his problems before being consumed by the overwhelming weight of them.

Okay for starters I adore what you done with this whole piece. To every key detail in the background, to the character's action and how the environment surrounded them almost moves with them, to how well the backgrounds done to the extent it seems almost you can jump in there! Ma oh, man you know how to make it atmosphere so eery and mysterious which leads the viewer in! that mysterious atmosphere is also very fitting for the song and I'm glad to see throughout the video even with tiny things as Russel's walking to the beat of the song, it all coordinates with the song! This atmosphere and environment that you created also leads the viewer and me to question how did the Shadows come about? Why is it coming from 2D eyes?Which also leads us to rewatch the video and find more easter eggs! This also makes it a little bit interactive with the viewers as we can formulate in theorize in the comments! Also I enjoy you did this with Russel specifically because he doesn't get that much recognition in the fandom, so I really appreciate it! in general read the description, I'm surprises that this is your first time making a video like this because this is so well done that I can call it professional! I kinda want to ask will you finish the animation? Animatics are great and all but you can correct the mistakes you made and inconsistancies as well as make the animation flow and perfect some of the effects. Seriously I'd love to see where you take this animation if you ever finish it.
There was one thing that kinda weirded me out though, is the animation about Phase 1 Russel and his friends? He was possessed by all of his dead friends before The Grim Reaper came in and kinda took them all out...so...why are they still a problem?

Whenever I see an animatic like this, I hope that Damon or Jamie sees it and thinks "Hey, that's pretty good!" and collaborates with the person responsible for the animatic to make a full music video.
I don’t remember the song to be like this.
My own interpretation: The song represents that Russel is sad of being the one band member everyone forgets, he's the least popular one and he's tired of seeing everyone else's faces everywhere, the ghosts seem to be a part of the grim reaper who originally haunted Russel, which is turn has somehow brought Del back into his head, Del is telling him to let him out, "let me out and I can make you known again" but Del caused nothing but trouble to everyone else and Russel doesn't want to unleash his havoc again.
I feel like Del was just fucking around during phase 1 and wasn't trying to cause any actual trouble

Man I've come back and watched this like a dozen times now. How did this only take 3 weeks? It's official Gorillaz quality easy; hell, it's even better than some of their videos.
