  • Canvas allows you to create a scale-accurate 3D model of a space in minutes.
    I thought it would be interesting to try this App and service to see if it would be suitable for us!
    Quick scans, reprocessing, and Scan to CAD are available with Canvas!
    I was really impressed with their SketchUp and Revit files.

    Thanks for the video Joseph. It would be nice for a future video to show how to link a number of rooms together as well as show how accurate the scan is? This would be extremely helpful to know for architects and designers!

    Thanks for the great video, Joseph. I am a prospective iPad Pro user with Canvas. Could have used it two years ago on a site which was being renovated. Could have captured and 3D modeled the “before” images in order to preserve the original look for posterity. I can see a huge need for this application in the future. Lidar is coming to the masses.

    Thank you for the video, very interesting!
    I'm a retail manager for a pharmacy network therefore i need to focus on the shelves and the products exposed.
    I think it would be very useful to have every pharmacy of the network mapped but i have two questions: it's possible to have large pharmacies mapped in "chunks" (same as you said for big houses)?
    How detailed is the 3d model, will i be able to see the boxes on the shelves and recognize them?
    Thank you again and sorry for my English

    • @JosephKim

      It is mostly meant for building spaces, and small boxes with labels would not be visible unfortunately.

    Hello, Joseph! I would like to ask a question about this service. Let's say a wall is not at a 90 degree angle with the floor or in relation with other walls or ceilling, or the height of a wall is not straight. I'm assuming that the 3D model, default OBJ exported, contains that info as it is.( actually that is what I am looking for, exact measurements as they are). But, if I send the scan to the CAD service that Canvas provides and they're sending me back a clean 3D model, those imperfections will also be there? or they are just extruding perfect walls over the floor plan that I'm sending?

    • @JosephKim
      @JosephKim  9 месяцев назад

      I think it depends on the amount of non-straightness. Give it a try :)

    Joseph, great video, thanks. What's the largest space you've attempted to scan in Canvas? Would love to use it as part of my site survey for projects. I would think you'd need multiple scans, but right now we're using the Matterport and it just seems like the iPhone isn't going to be able to catch up to that tech for years. Still tempted to buy the iPhone/iPad with lidar though!

    As a perfectionist Asian cad drafter, still not convinced on accuracy and reliability. I measured one dimly lit room and lost tracking because I moved so fast, and five out of seven distance measures were inconsistent. And how does it know the thickness of walls? I need a robot AI for interior as builts and a drone AI for exterior asbuilts. However, it could possibly replace taking pictures to recall lights appliances outlets, cad output if I’m rushed to measure doors windows, but then again I’m relying on another service. It’ll come down to value for me.

    Is this the best solution to get a 3d model of a room without doing it yourself. Or do you think there is a better way? I wanna use it for projects, where I use it to get the exact room in 3d. Is this the best thing of is there something better where there also is a service where they can give you a 3d model (skp, rvt etc)
