Mike Mignola is one of my favorites, could just pour over his art for hours. Never picked this one up based on my prejudice against movie adaptations. How wrong could I be, just guided me to buy another comic. Thanks guys. You guys rock.

You guys are KILLING it, as it pertains to waxing over a plethora of killer comics from many genres, etc. Such wide taste & knowledge.

My other half recently managed to get me a copy of this and I'm absolutely over the moon. Favorite film of all time so having a copy of the comic for myself is outstanding!

I love this comic. Back in the day this was considered better than the film and I still think so- I prefer the comic to the film. On its release the film had mixed reviews but I think since then the appreciation for it has grown over the years. I love the movie but the comic is just so next level. One of the best comics ever in my opinion. A true masterpiece.

I hope Mignola is able to finish his new Frankenstein Undone. It's a good story that needs to be finished.

I have the comics in BCW snap cover displays with the McFarlane action figures werewolf and man-bat, along with the trading cards also in BCW holders!! Excellent display!! If only I could get Gary Oldman to sign a few of the items, would be a perfect display!!!

I can't even imagine pre-planning your shadows like that. Like how do you train your brain to do that?

I loved this series of comics growing up. The Dracula comics and 'Batman, Gotham By Gaslight' was when I started really appreciating Mignola's work.

I remember this being the book that put Mignola on the map for those of us that slept through his beginning stuff.

Never thought much of that movie. LOVE that adaptation. My vote is: BETTER than the movie by a mile! I just bought a copy of that hardcover black and white one a month or so ago. Reproduction's awesome. Not an artist's edition, but very nice!

He also worked as an illustrator for the film itself too. Believe I first found this out on the Blade II special features it could of been the Hellboy movies though. But Del Toro first hired him as a concept artist for Blade II.

Another great vid... Thanks Jim and Ed! Really enjoying pulling horror books out of the boxes and reading them along with your commentary! Also couldn’t help but notice you were missing the single of issue #2, and I just happen to have a double of that one. Are you going to bring back the mailbag episodes??

I picked up the larger sized black and white hardcover collection a few months ago. I think I'm gonna have to pick up one of the color options (original topps comics or the color collection). Hmmm...looks like the original topps comics came with trading cards, too...
And just wanted to confirm that the original art reproductions contained in the black and white vs. the color collection are indeed different pages. Sigh...I might just have to acquire all three versions. LOL.

This series was a BIG DEAL when it came out. It signaled the arrival of the Topps trading card company as a viable publisher and made a big splash thanks to the phenomenal success of the movie's advertising campaign. I remember this thing just flying off the stands. I wouldn't be surprised if Topps was still living off the sales of this when they closed their doors.

Also, fwiw, this was one of those series that was somehow both popular but not popular enough at he same time, and as such I see issues of this going for cheap at local comic shops, in $1 bins and whatever. If you have a local shop that has lots of back issues, they may be there from time to time if you keep an eye out for 'em and you're lucky.
