It wasn't until I read Wild Hunt that I realized he's more complex than I believed, the Blood Queen's helmet and the chamber with the knights of the round table being a good example of that
Your commentary on this is game changing, i love it, its made me more confident by calling out the confidence of Mignola and others. You have such a good point. Awesome vid, awesome drawings ❤
I recently started drawing again and trying to emulate Mignola’s art style is pretty difficult. Because I had to unlearn my art style. It’s like asking a dog to meow. Fun experiment though.
Just stumbled on this one. As a huge fan of his work, I have often tried to decode what makes his design so appealing when it seems so improvised(?); at least I suppose that's the best word for it. I really like how you describe the confidence of the shapes and the negative space. I think that gets to the heart of what feels so visceral about his panels; they feel like they were just spontaneously generated from his mind. Great video, thanks for sharing!
Honestly, working digitally is kind of counter intuitive to working confidently. It's a pain in the but undoing mistakes with ink and paper, and it helps you live with the mistakes you can't get rid of. 🙂
I love the art of Mignola! And your skills are very impressive! Thank you far sharing. I try to capture this style in 3D from time to time. So far without much success, but i will nail that one day :)
It would be awesome to see a sort of mash up drawing for the final video in this series, combining some of your favorite elements from these different artists into one illustration.
Im just getting back into drawing when im on my break at work with a little challenge that i call 30 minute faces. I find a face i find interesting and then i draw it in my style. And i just let loose. I started this because i nearly ruined drawing for myself because i was always comparing myself to the comuc book greats
Interesting video & analysis! It’s also fascinating to see that your recreation of Mignola’s style almost seems too clean in direct comparison to his own drawings, which supports your remarks regarding his inherent/intended imperfections.
I enjoyed 2019 Hellboy movie. Liked the other two movies too. Hellboy 2 is best of them to me. I always liked that movie and saw that more than first movie. Nuada was interesting.
you're not overthinking it. Mignola's art is deceptively complex.
Yes. The man knows how to symplify his panels but his characters are complex and iconic in their few elements.

Faces are pretty much my favourite thing to draw.

Yeah that could definitely be interesting.
2:59 Trying to recreate his art it just clicked thats what his goal was it was truly amazing for me to click with art like that
Red Hook studios: Let's make a game that looks like Hellboy...but plays like XCOM.
all about suggestiveness
THANK YOU!
Misshapen and surreal, loves it

great vid, mignola is interesting one. Symbolism is also a center of his plot, and everything else in his comics.
interesting upload BrotherBaston. I smashed the thumbs up on your video. Maintain up the superb work.
Here in a America we have this disease called "perfectionism"
That's why most art styles look exactly the same, just rendered differently.

agree w/ yr comments about art snobery / peer pressure
top right head was my favorite.
YES
Thank you so much for this!!
Very informative, thanks
That face on the right-bottom part was initially in the style of Mike Mignola, and you redrew it until it became a completely different drawing style😅
