UK Level Crossings Channel I don’t mean to ask such a grim question...but has anyone ever gotten hurt or even killed on this bridge? I don't actually know you'll have to look that up. Plenty of cyclists jump the lights here as they don't want to wait. I would wait anyday for this bridge though lol ☺️
How high do you think it raised......this bridge usually does either a 40 degree lift for small boats, or 75 degree lift for large boats. The maximum the bridge can lift to is 87 degrees, which is only ever done if the Queen is passing under the bridge.
This is less cool if it's your commute to work and you get caught out on the way home during summer four out of five times in a week. There's a small ship with a single tall mast on hand that they keep going back and forth in tourist season to keep the visitors happy.
Thanks Modster. I first wasn't expecting the motorbike to weave around the shut gate but then I wasn't expecting the two cyclists to almost hit the closing gate too. The motorcyclist just broke the law and the cyclists could have been hit by a big blue gate.

Sharon Hubbard Sadly, it’s not much better on this side of the Atlantic either! Accidental ignorance I can forgive, but willful ignorance should be considered something that must be cured forthwith at best and borderline criminal at worst!
Funny how they're using normal traffic lights here instead of Wig-Wags used at other swing bridges..... But it's obvious that those cyclists have gone behind the stop line; they're past the traffic light.
Just because its a massive tourist attraction and many foreign drivers cross here, it would be more suitable for red/amber/green traffic signals instead of wigwags. The cyclists and traffic should know better.
+UK Railway Hub But I believe that it helps with the PA system used by the Bridge controller so (British) drivers don't get confused as to why there's traffic lights on the swing bridge instead of Wig-Wags; I often hear the announcement reminding them to wait for the green signal before moving off....
Thanks Sam. I thought I might as well film it after a year since I last went. Its really cool to watch but also really packed full of tourists too. Great place to visit though C:
Tower Bridge is a double bascule bridge - the northern and southern halves of the central span swing up and away from each other to allow passage of tall vessels. Kingsferry bridge on the A249 south of Sheerness, Kent is a lift bridge - the entire section of roadway over The Swale is hoisted vertically on 4 very large towers to allow passage of tall vessels!
The Explorer Returns I’m assuming he meant the wigwags which have an amber light and two alternating flashing red lights. They’re commonly seen at level crossings but are also used at opening bridges (see Newhaven Swing Bridge for example), ambulance & fire stations.
Well, the alarms in this case are for the pedestrians to clear the bridge. I don't know why they stop mid closing as it might have avoided cyclists cutting round the closed gates.
That last motorbike to go through should be done for "jumping" a red light at the very least, no excuse end of; as for the last two cyclists whom tried to get through even though the 2nd gate was closing, what the hell where they thing of? just sheer damned impatience by the looks of it
Yeah. I was hoping there would be some wigwags installed or something but I guess it was easier and cheaper to install vertical traffic signals instead. The GEC Elliot signals were quite nice though.
I preferred the old GEC Elliot Mellor traffic lights though. But strangely enough, these traffic lights at Tower Bridge are one of the only few traffic lights in Central London to have that white surround.....
@@LiftEnthusiast2020OFFTOPIC Siemens are the best traffic light manufacturer in my opinion, better than PEEK. I believe that these new traffic lights on Tower Bridge are Motus traffic lights....

Sam Weller this is tower bridge, not London Bridge. London Bridge is a rather disappointing 1960's reinforced concrete bridge.

Well, the alarms in this case are for the pedestrians to clear the bridge. I don't know why they stop mid closing as it might have avoided cyclists cutting round the closed gates.
I suspect that the alarms are controlled manually, thus the operator probabaly switched it off.
Whatever we say about cyclists ignoring traffic lights action will result only if any untoward incident happens in the bridge.
