That boat really needed the bridge open??
One feature of 'lifts', when the traffic is stopped everyone jumps out of their cars to take photos! One way to see this bridge is to go through it on the Paddle steamer 'Waverley' on one of its September visits to London; they open it to let it get to the Tower of London pier.

How did you get the "behind the scenes" tour? I've been fascinated by Tower Bridge since I was about 4 years old, I'd love to do it. (I've done the regular tour). The thing I found amazing is when the bascules lift, it's silent - so effortless.

Funny how Tower Bridge uses normal traffic lights and metal swing gates rather than wig wag signals and barriers that are used on all the other swing bridges....
is there someone near the traffic lights to stop cars/pedestrians or just those in the control room?im a bit fearful of bridges that open!
Amandamoo73 just in the control room but there is CCTV so they can see the traffic lights

Hello. Somebody knows if there is possible to rent a kayak to row under the tower bridge ? Thks.
I think it's unlikely due to the type of traffic on the river, I know that a few of my friends whom do narrowboat channels have to have certain paperwork just to go along the thames ect.
