The shell looks like solid brass. You can clean the oxidation up with a bit of brass polish and a rag. Use your elbow grease to really rub into it. I suggest putting some sort of clear coat on it after that because I have my great grandfather's solid brass United wall clock from 1959, and I have to polish it from time to time. I should think about putting clear coat on it.
Cool, I have a Vulcan smoke alarm that the battery is not made anymore, it is not hardwire, it still works with a 9V battery, so I can test it every now and then!
plus the second lamp got dim when you started to wave your hand to remove the smoke so i think the lamp tells you how much smoke was in the senser plus you can clean the sensor out because i saw screws holding it together
This is definitely made before 1972. Im going to say late 1960s but again maybe 1971 and it looks like very soon I will be the second owner of one of these. By the end of this month or early March I should have it as I won it yesterday. The one I am getting us untested but if it works at least I know what to expect sound wise and I do like this sound. Mine on the back the label is a bit ripped off towards the centre but that won't effect anything. The cover may need a cleaning as it is an very old item but still never the less I am very happy to be getting one as these don't pop up on ebay very often. :)
Apparently I'm not the only one who heard the huge similarity in the horn between this smoke detector and Seymour Smoke ! Maybe they got their sound sample from a Vulcan smoke detector
10:20 poor kitty finally jumped. like the First Alert SA76RS only about 20 times louder. What year is this from? I might have asked this before but I would have to say at least 1971 (two years before I was born) at the least by the looks of it. When was the first time the Delta alarm horn used in smoke detectors? Looks like a bell but sounds very different as you can see.
@@theshedproductions. I would say 1972 at the latest, It is older than me and I was born in 1973. I actually just recently purchased one on ebay. Mine needs a new bulb which I am hoping to purchase by this months end. looks like online is the only way to go. Mine doesn't make this high pitched beep but does a low buzzing hum which means trouble and the smaller lamp will light up so at least the unit works. Once I get the bulb things should work.
I had to unplug my grandparents old one because it just can't make it a loud ass really bad sound like once in a blue moon and it always happen early in the morning
So I have a very similar detector in my house in fact it might even work at least the light is on. I'm not into detectors, but it's cool that at least one person is into saving nice examples so anyway if you're interested in it it's yours. Just let me know.
If the light lights then it's definitely operational and working. I have one but I know of several other people who would want one. These tend to go on ebay for a decent price.
@@BAFVintage yeah I understand that but that particular sound it's just not what u u think of when u think of a chirp made by a smoke alarm but I guess alarms were different back then
That thing looks awesome!!! Its super steampunk.
That Windows 7 sample music intro tho

HOW OLD IS THAT?!!
Probably from the 1970s
@@porkdoigoipaul3291 I was guessing that or else 1960s
was patented in 1968 so...

I wish it was a bell
Ok its gonna go off now.
WOAH THERE WHAT IS THAT?!?!?
I believe the Delta-Larm Sounders were 120vac, the one in my smoke guard 900A2.
DeltaLarm horns are 12VDC squealer type horns. This detector has a transformer to run the incandescent bulb and the horn.
What year was this made?
I saw a comment that stated that it was patented in 1968, so I'm guessing that's the year.
One day I might do another review of my alarms but with better lighting and stuff
You should get a weather radio, it counts as an alarm, right?
You are a v8 running on two cylinders go home you stein!

Its not a detector, detectors tell fire alarms to go off . it is an alarm
