    Basically.... The Punisher is Marvel's Batman..... That KILLS. He still has his loyalties and morals in place. In some cases, involving civilians. But, it doesn't keep him from loosing his sense of humanity, while still maintaining his sense of justice. He was a family man who was stolen the American Dream and in retaliation, he faught back... He faught the system. 😂 I would LOVE to see him MAGICALLY pop up in the Deadpool 3 movie! King's character represents a broken heart with love some how intact. 😑 I can imagine they hate him because of everything I just said....

      I like the Ennis take that he effectively went all in on war, and when he came back, he really felt dead *not* being in a war. So when his family died, it gave him a reason to create a war.
      It's why the Ennis version doesn't go on the "immediately hunt the people who killed my family" fundamental misunderstanding that every live action version does; He only faces off with them like 40 years later in Max. He starts a war against *all crime*. You don't go after one guy in a war who launched an airstrike, you go after his entire empire.

    • @BlazingOwnager
      @BlazingOwnager Год назад +8

      That was my biggest beef with Netflix Punisher. Perfect casting, but it was held back by conspiracy stuff, muddying his origin, etc. I like my Punisher Ennis style. Dude cracks and loves violence after the war, is held in check by his family and when they get clipped, he goes on a completely merciless rampage against all crime. He doesn't even go after the people who killed his family, in the good comics (unlike the movies), originally - only catching up with them decades and decades later. And that's why he's interesting - he's a force of nature. Revenge isn't his motivation: he merely has an excuse to create a new private war. Only Warzone got this to any degree of the live action adaptations, though. "Goddamn it, Castle!"

    The U.S. government, media, and social media have been bashing men for years. It isn't that they hate their fans. They hate men and everything men like. Luke Skywalker, Batman, superman, iron man, black panther, etc. How many times have we seen male characters be degraded or replaced by women. It isn't a secret they don't want men to enjoy their products anymore. But what they don't see is men no longer buying their products for the women in their lives.

  • @demontekdigital1704
    @demontekdigital1704 Год назад +16

    I think Marvel hates the Punisher because he represents everything they're afraid of, everything they're trying to ignore, and everything they're trying to forget. The Punisher is justice without mercy, or compromise. He's not a hero, but an antihero because, heroes refuse to kill based on their own morality. Meanwhile the villain often escapes, or is released unreformed, and angry they were captured which then results in more innocent lives lost.
    Frank embodies the whole "nip the problem in the bud" ideology by eliminating the problem before it's allowed to get worse, or be repeated. He's the darker approach to dealing with crime, and does so amorally because he has to. The military loves him because they did an excellent job at showing his training, and combat skillset while also allowing the character to have the same do, or die, never give up attitudes as the people sworn to protect us. He represents everything the police can't do, but want to in the worst way.

All of it.

    Such a shame, because these Netflix shows were the best marvel cinematic products that ever got released imho. Bad ass, marketable to the adults who read the comics as kids…cinematography was great.

    I used to like the Punisher in my youth, Robocop too. I wanted to be a cop because I like to help and put a stop to evil-doing.
    Now I understand that the cases where it's law enforcement or punishment that's supposed to help it actually doesn't do much, the solution has to come from prevention, from love nurturing, from raising people well and with care for themselves and their fellows. By the time it comes to law enforcement or punishment that boat has sailed and it's either just a band-aid solution or even counterproductive, as violence begets violence.
    Still, in extreme cases and the fantasy world, personas such as Robocop and Punisher are still heroic figures to me for their moral code.

    I used to buy, every month, the Marvel Graphic Novel Collection but stopped at issue 140. This was because issues 1-140 were an excellent collection of the very best Marvel had to offer, including the Punisher’s origin story. But, after issue 140 it started to feature the new post-2010 message-laden characters and I just could not bear to spend my money on that stuff. The stories were getting less interesting and the artwork was getting more kindergarten in standard.
    What finally flipped me was Ms Marvel. Supposedly written to appeal to an audience of young Moslem girls I found its portrayal of Islam to be patronising and crammed full of Western stereotypes. It didn’t seek to destroy those stereotypes but instead reinforced them. It was at that point I decided the Marvel of old had passed away.
    To hear Chuck Dixon describe the current Marvel editors as hating their audience I can see exactly where he’s coming from, and the reason I think they are losing their customers is because their current output appeals to no-one.

    To be fair, "mores" [mohr-eyz] was not a typo, it means social norms or moral attitudes, and was used correctly in the sentence also mentioning Punisher's "code". It bothers me a little when police embrace Punisher's iconography, because their philosophy should be antithetical to his. The Punisher believes cops are worthless/useless, that's why he does what he does. It makes me wonder if police are aware of the irony. In any case, Marvel comics have been terrible for many years now.

    • @coldh8terade737

      Cops like the Punisher because he does everything they themselves wish they could do to criminals. In fact, if the Punisher was a real person, quite a few people on the force would probably support him in secret. Even in the comics, there's a task force that will actually help him escape arrest or break out of prison. When the good guys start believing vigilantism is necessary, that's very telling of how corrupt our society has gotten.

    I liked the old Punisher for his extremes sure, but also for his broken but enduring stories being more grounded and mortal than others from Marvel in a lot of ways. He was dangerous even to the incomprehensible and innumerable Powers out there, but an entirely human factor.
    Now he's some kind of Hawk-Eye/Ronin Ninja stand in and his iconic symbol has unnecessary baggage.

    You this would be an interesting case study overall because there are plenty of times in entertainment history where a company has a set formula of not only what works for them but they also like it, then one day something changes what use to sell doesn't and something you either don't understand or dislike does start to sell. Now companies may start to ignore that things success for those very reasons until one day the bills are piling up or you realize well over half of you audience wants this product so you start going that way. WWE us a great example for years in the 80's and 90's you had characters like Hulk Hogan say your prays and eat your vitamins. Until one day those characters stopped selling and after searching for the next big thing WWE owner Vince McMahon sees Stone Cold Steve Austin is getting the biggest reactions from audiences, his shirt is the top seller, and his segments are getting the biggest ratings. So McMahon said that's our top guy now and the rest is history. You see numerous networks that have glorified gang violence, mob behavior, acts of war every manner of horror but that's what those audiences want to see does that mean AMC supported drug culture witn Breaking Bad no, does that mean HBO supports the Mob with The Sopranos no. You simply have audiences for one reason or another wanting that kind of content and Marvel and Disney can't separate themselves from the business side of things they have to make it personal and guess what is costing them billions of dollars and it might be the thing that brings them down one day. And guess what if HBO or AMC came up for sale there would be no shortage of suitors to buy them. WWE was sold for several billion dollars just this year, yet if Marvel went up for sale you'd have a hard time finding someone to A want to buy it and B buy it at Disney's asking prive because people view it as too broken.

    I never really cared for the Punisher, never saw why he was that popular. Both attempts to make films with him failed. Thought he ruined Daredevil season 2. Found his own solo series unwatchable. Someone who leaves a trail of dead bodies, blown up cars and buildings everywhere he goes isn't going to last long in the real world or even the Comic universe. Still don't really have anything against the character or anyone who likes him. Ruining your own character, destroying that stream of revenue, alienating your readers, it's bad business like a lot of stuff thier doing nowadays.

    Its not even liking the customers, they just HATED the people, Blue Collar. Normal, every day people who didn't eat, breath, and sleep Political messaging. How dare people get tired of criminals going free after their kid gets abused, their spouse gets killed, How dare cops relate with someone who cuts past red tape and stop monsters peddling poison to kids and making them drug mules.
    They forget what the Punisher was. Outside the law, who went that extra step. Yet he also had his code, and wouldn't approve of cops going his route. But the new Marvel isn't the old Marvel. And it shows. ITs why the company is in dire straights. These people would burn the world down and slaughter EVERYONE they disagreed with... Because they feel they are in the right. Never realizing they are acting more like the very thing they accuse others of being. That little jack booted armband wearing thug.
