As usual, Marvel preferred to please people who don't read the comic instead of the fans who actually do. Because that makes so much fucking sense

In all honesty I think this can work for franks character. I've read the comic and he's still just as brutal and willing to get his own hands dirty. He still has his full arsenal the sword just fits the story's current aesthetic and still uses them. He still dishes out his own sense of justice he just now uses the hand as his own personal delivery service to bring them to him so he can personally merc them. They even changed the symbol to look like an oni mask again for the ninja aesthetic he's got going on (plus he always hated cops so it's just ironic the cops started using it).
im hurt by this cuz frank castle was my grandfathers favorite character he loved the punisher cuz he and the punisher were the same my grandpa was a veteran who was a family man he never lost his family but he would protect them and do anything he could to do the right thing like frank and the fact they did this stupid ass ending is beyond infuriating cuz i love the character cuz he reminds me of my grandpa

@@silverblade357 Marvel in general struggles to sell their trades. While they won more of the floppy market, DC crushes them when it comes to trade sales, both of old and newer stories. Granted, DC has the advantage of having classics like Watchmen and Sandman, but their trades for more recent stories also do well. Marvel, for whatever reason, cannot get their recent trades to sell, and they seemingly don't market their classics like "Kraven's Last Hunt".

What's funny is that they can change punisher all they want, those cops and military people are probably still wearing the punisher logo. It's a cool symbol they saw from the movies/tv, probably have no idea this comic exists.
Reminds me of when Pearlmutter went ballistic tearing down X-men and Fantastic Four poster and cancelling the comic books because Fox owned the movie rights... Which had zero chance of hurting Fox in any way, they don't need Marvel to be publishing comic books of the properties (at a time when comic sales were already down nearly to the current 100,000 copies sold range.)
Exactly. These people are just repping the symbol cause it looks cool, not because they read Punisher comics or know anything about Frank Castle.
Ironically I'm split on this. The Punisher Skull being used by the police is the cops demonstrating that they recent the very system they are suppose to enforce and just want to slaughter criminals on the street like they where puting down rabid animals. The U.S. Marine Corps using the Punisher Skull is acknowledging the character. Because Frank Castle used to be a Marine. He was a veteran. So it does feel appropriate to me. Specially since in war intimidation and fear tactics in my mind are valid. The whole Punisher story from the start is supposed to be a cautionary tale to society and veterans of what happens when you take away everything that makes a man's life worth living and have marauders running ammock in the city making it inhospitable to ordinary hard working people. You turn men trying to reform from their time in war into monsters that will rip to shreds the world that took everything from them and it is exactly what that world deserves, and these men won't stop until every single last drop of their blood is spilled and every bone in their body is broken. And even then they will try to still live to kill that world as much as impossible as that effort would be.

When I saw the first issue of this Punisher run, I thought "Thats a stupid idea". Now I know it wasn't just stupid, it was absolutely terrible and butchers a character for no good reason.
They did this to stick it to political types who adopted the skull icon. Instead of writing a scenario where Frank condemns political extremism, they utterly ruin the character with a retcon-laden exposition dump.
I genuinely hope this version of Maria gets mugged and murdered by the exact kinds of criminals that don't fear getting webbed to a wall or getting karate kicked by a blind dude.
That'd be a proper tragic outcome given all her moralizing about Frank killing murderers and other pieces of human scum.

What they did is like a horrendous fan-fiction or something. It's so poorly done on every level, and I guarantee they did that just to spite fans. Which is a great way to treat your customers. New Marvel is just synonymous with trash anymore.

Notice that Marvel is still profiting off the logo by selling T-shirts at Wal-Mart while condemning him.
So this character they are pretending is Frank Castle is a devil worshipper, and a serial killer (not in the classic Punisher Death Wish vigilante mode, but an actual psychopath who kills innocent people) and a cuckold. Interesting (not really though, I buy interesting comics and wouldn't even pick up a free copy of this.)

In Rosenberg's run Franks talks to some cops who rep his logo and he essentially tells them to cut it out and that if they want a role model they should look up to Captain America.

People miss the point of The Punisher. He’s not meant to be admired or seen as being like Jason Todd. He kills out of bloodlust and disguises it as doing it for the greater good. Wolverine and Deadpool were criminals who found redemption and Punisher has worked with them despite putting on a facade of not believing in redemption. He’s meant to be interesting the same way Hannibal Lecter is, not because he’s worth following.

So they ruined Punisher, current Spider-Man comics, Superman’s son, and then Black Panther comics rn as well and they wonder why I’m not tuning into modern comics at the moment. I’ll stick with manga cause at least the authors/writers/artists in Japan know how to write stories. My God 🤦🏾♂️
I’m honestly confused. The whole you lost us a while ago panel pisses me off. Question: Was Frank described as being abusive and or hurtful towards his family?? Why was she trying to divorce? Why is she so hateful towards him? I haven’t read this series because, no. But if anyone can answer, was Frank an awful person to them??? This shit is so stupid and confusing.
For me some of this makes sense bc it Might be alluding to the end of Punisher Max where it's shown that while Frank wasn't Abusive he was definitely distant and the best parent and spouse he could've been and the idea of getting a divorce in the park right before his family died was spurred on by him actually getting Maria to tear up and angrily ask him why or something along those lines.
Even the concept of the beast is something from Punisher Born from the Max imprint but they didn't make it about the Hand there. Frank was going to die in a swarm of vietnamese soldiers and an evil entity/ voice says give up your soul and you will fight forever but the price is your family and Frank accepts.
Lots of good ideas that were accepted by the fan base that seemingly meshed together and presented poorly now killing their appeal.
It's very bizarre to me because Jason Aaron wrote for Punisher Max and is ended it and at least for me the Kingpin arc where Frank dies at the end is very well done and it's the progenitor for some of the ideas used in this current run so I don't know how he fucked up his own concepts this badly years later bro genuinely just didn't a singular fuck it's sad in all honesty.

But, in this particular issue and series, from the beginning, was he ever described as any of that, or decided to choose his family over something else? I just can’t figure out why they made him cucked by his own wife? Most interpretations of this character, we all know he was a family man. Would lay his life down for his family. So, I’m just wondering, why on earth does she have this hatred against him? Like…. It genuinely pisses me off.
No he's supposed to be a family man. (Pre murder of his family) and then ofc can't be a family man after ur family is murdered!
He grew up in a very traditional neighborhood in 1950s queen's, he would have stuck with his family to the end, cause it was the only normality he'd ever known, especially after the trauma he experienced in Vietnam. He would have been withdrawn and emotionally distant, (like so many veterans of his generation)but he never wished harm on his family. He has morality enough to know not to harm people who don't deserve it, so these attempts by marvel at throwing shade on his character are just more attempts at breaking him, and ultimately erasing him.
Spider-Man is way more of a mess then punisher at least in my opinion.

This sounds so bad it makes the Punisher being turned into a black guy make sense. I thought the first three issues were pretty good but it just seems a little silly now like Jason Aaron jumped like 3 sharks. Honestly I think Marvel should just sell the rights to the character so we can get some good Punisher comics. Just read Punisher War Journal by Carl Potts and Jim Lee now there’s a bad ass Punisher series that blows this new series!

And YES! THANK YOU! Nathan Edmondson's Punisher and Black Widow were very underrated! I met him at a con a while back and he saw I was wearing a St. Michael medal it turns out he's Catholic we started talking about our faith. I wish he had gotten the chance to write DareDevil!

As I read this run I didn't feel that I was reading a Punisher story. So much elements of the Punisher lore were twisted, ignored, discarded and exchanged by some that doesn't fit him. Swords as his main weapons? Demoniac magic powers? Facing a greek god? That was a story, but not a Punisher one.
There are others narrative choices that I didn't like, but I don't want to extend myself.
To me this run is to the Punisher as Dragon Ball Evolution is to Dragon Ball anime.
I see the same title and the same characters, but the vibe is hugely different and embarrasing.
You can so tell from the writing this is Disney doing everything they can to destroy the character. The back of the trade even has the tag line: the punisher story to end all punisher stories! Wish they would just retire the character rather than ruin him! I’m dreading him showing up in the daredevil series!

There is no way in Hell Punisher is going to be any good in Daredevil Born Again after this. Its over. I've never agreed with Frank's actions but I still enjoyed him immensely as an anti hero. The only reason Marvel doesn't like him is because people in the Military like the Character. Its so ridiculous. Of course Deadpool who is way more of a terrifying psychopath (In my opinion) gets a pass.

And even if she just left him, why didn't she come back to finish the job when the avengers let her visit him again? I wonder who got it worse in recent years. Frank or Peter. Also Frank in my opinion would never work with the hand. He just kill them all(or die trying) like he's done with every other criminal organization that he targeted(and chose to keep standing in his way). Also, Marvel didn't nerf Frank's gun use because of unsavories using the Punisher Logo, there was literally a gang caught in 2011 of cops using the symbol while engaging in illegal activities and they **still** didn't tone down the Gun Use!
He didn't use many guns while working with the Hands since the Hand are ninjas, they really wouldn't use loud weapons like Guns.
He isn't using guns in "Weird World" because, believe it or not, **guns need bullets and Frank doesn't have an infinite Ammo glitch** , so ofc; No bullets, no gun, all melee, it hasn't been his 1st time, Frank is a very capable fighter lol
Honestly while the whole nonsense with the hand is stupid and forgetful, I thought in a way that the parts of Frank Castle life in the past were pretty good. Maybe if this story was more grounded possibly about the Punisher actually targeting people who began using his Punisher for evil before giving up the symbol himself. It could have been a nice send off to the character.

...I mean, isn't that literally the logic for why Batman should kill the Joker; because a lot less people would die after he gets killed lol? Also I'm pretty sure for decades that Marvel was setting up the Punisher's family not really being okay with his grand mission of shooting up all of crime, often times the dead people who inspire heroes would not be in support of those heroes doing what they do (IE: Thomas Wayne never wanted Bruce Wayne to become Batman).
Wouldn't Frank's family be more happy with him moving on and grieving in a healthy way then being the Punisher?

The idea of Frank even considering to bring his family back is far fetched for that character. They need to just stop with him for a while
they could have ended the punisher series in a happy/good way. like when his wife and child died in the park it turned out that the wife was pregnant so when the hand revived her the pregnancy came with it. then she was able to both save Frank and his soul from the hand when he finds out that she was alive and pregnant again, the end, and if they want to revive his comic again, thanks to his family he can use less lethal ways to punish his victims. this character destruction has killed the entire industry. 🤬
Say what you want about the thomas jane movie, but it almost single handedly created a new generation of punisher fans whod never even been in a comic book shop before. Meanwhile the company thats supposed to be the gaurdian of 50 years of the characters history is intent on erasing him.
if you can draw i IMPLORE you - make a punisher story right now cause Marvel never will again
take skull pic from a doctor's scan you'd get, break it with a broken glass effect = boom new logo
and just make notPunisher and never show his face (cause its just Frank's face and in all but name) it would sell easily people
