In the opening of Aliens - when they were drilling Ripley about why she blew up the Nostromo - that one woman was so condescending when she said…”Yes, we know…acid for blood” - meanwhile the company was not only aware of the creature, Romulus was already operational and maybe harvesting face huggers?
which is why the movie is a canon breaking mess.

If this movie makes the money we expect it will we'll get a movie about Amanda trying to find her Mum & ultimately Alien Isolation the movie, not against it in fairness.....

Pretty cool theory. The only flaw is that couldn't Ellen have searched her daughter's details on her own at the Sulaco, or was there no computer in her room? I do like that idea though, and it would work well with a direct sequel to Aliens.

If you have the original 1979 "The Making of Alien" book, which is absolutely required reading, you will know that the "cocoon" part of the alien life cycle was already a thing. It's why Big Chap became less aggressive toward the end of the movie and hid himself. He just wanted to, and I quote Dan O'Bannon here, "Just wanted to get on with his life cycle".
Dan O'Bannon was a genius and gets too little credit for his creative contribution to the Alien franchise. On the other hand, Scott, who merely directed the first film, is given far too much credit and control over the IP.
I think they in Romulus, the WY plan was to use the facehugger "pods" on the doomed colony down on the planet as a test run. The kids in this movie are going to learn this and then try to destroy the entire facility to save the people on the planet.

Alien: Out of The Shadows (novel) features the concept of retrieving Ripley's escape pod and Ash is in the book, too. Wonder if Romulus was inspired by it

I think Romulus found her and sent her adrift because she would recognize the Romulus Ash and know he's a threat. I'm wondering if they're making Ash a follower of David since we know the goo is on board the Romulus

In Out of the Shadows, Ash uploads a copy of his AI to the lifeboat and sending messages back to weland-yutani this could further explain how they know she was the only survivor before the events of Aliens.
Ripley sent a message to Earth right before going into Cryo stating she was the only survivor... hate to burst your bubble.
But to expand on your theory, Ash's AI could have been transmitting far more information than Ripleys message.

That's a pretty interesting concept. An Alien seals itself in a cocoon of it's own making and that it's able to survive the harshness of space for a indefinite period of time.
So if Big Chap survived in space doesn’t that mean the Queen Xeno from Aliens survives also🤔🤔🤔
Depends on the Sulaco. If it was still in the gravity well of LV 426 then the queen may have burned up in the atmosphere. Don't think Xenos are as ridiculously tough as Death Angels, which just stretch believability to breaking point.
I always assumed since they were in orbit around LV426 that she would have fallen back into the planet's atmosphere and burned up.
It means the IP holders and their chief franchise advisor, Ridley Scott, can green light anything they want for whatever reason they want.
Ripley expected to be picked up in 6 weeks, so this would help in explaining why no one found her for 57 years.

@randomdaveUK But Aliens is an exception that surpasses the origin with Cameron's innovation and creativity and excellence performance by Weaver. Romulus is a tribute to Alien and Aliens, it is a hybrid. Paying tribute doesn't mean it will be good, especially with a teen cast.
@@ThePandacub69 this isn't a prequel, it's a sequel to Alien. Aliens would be 5 decades after this film in Ripley's time. Treating it like any other sequel is the way to go. It's part of the universe now

@@kylemcw8301 yea spend all that money setting up a atmosphere processor colony so it can be overtaken by aliens, does not sound like something smart greedy people would do, when all they would have to do is send a group to where ripley and her crew found the eggs in the first place.
Something that was missed from the original film was the signal that the Nostromo received to send them to LV-426 was turned off by one of the search party. So Wayland new the planet's location but not the location if the deralict ship hence why the colony was ultimately sent. Not so much to create a planet but hopefully stumble upon the ship full of xenomorph eggs. So looking for the only signs does make sense even if the methods seem crazy because end of the day a company once it sacrifices certain ideas all bets are off for any logical moves, just look at Disney.
I believe they revealed Big Chap because they have bigger surprises in store for us die hard Aliens fans
Remember Ash was replaced days before the Nostromo left earth so it makes sense. This was Special Order "For Science Officer Eyes Only". Means WY sent the SOS in investigate life form. How did Ripley decipher it to be a warning? Who sent the warning? The narcissus of course had surveillance but to hear Ash's voice was chilling.
You're confused. Ash was replaced 2 days before the Nostromo left Thedus with its ore shipment/refinery. Thedus (mineral rich planet), presumably, the planetoid on which the colony Jackson's Star (mining colony) is located, and where Alien: Romulus begins. The SOS/Warning wasn't sent by W-Y, it was a transmission sent by the engineer/space jockey onboard the derelict and a warning for others to stay away. This SOS was clearly already picked up and learned about earlier by W-Y and so they put Ash onboard the Nostromo, uploaded the special order and had the Nostromo re-route to LV426 to investigate.

I think LV-426 was sent up as either the hopes if them stumbling across the ship and finding the eggs and if not then you have a colony that is sending you resources and making you money or vice versa. Either way given we are seeing mega corruptions today that seem to exercise very odd behaviors it's not beyond the pal that Wayland simply lost its marbles but was so big and covered so many areas that it could afford to operate like this. Especially if a colony goes but the reason is nuclear blow up of the generator and not some alien attack, who's gonna go fact check it.
That's Ash's voice. I think the implication is the Ash synthetics are connected so the "we" that's been looking for Chap are the Ash Synths, as there's no way Weyland knew what occurs on the Nostromo after Ash is destroyed, and then it blows up. So the implication is Romulus did link to the pod and downloaded it's information, then let Ripley float away. I think the backstory is going to be the Ash synths went rogue, what Bishop calls "twitchy"...and that may connect to David and the goo
Ash's program did survive aboard the Narcissus until 2159 when he was erased by Hooper during the events of Alien: Out of the Shadows. So perhaps it is the original Ash we hear in the trialer.

Honestly, they're revealing a ton in hopes to draw people to see Romulus due to the lack luster performance at the box office the previous entry had and that there's still criticisms / mixed feelings towards Prometheus. People have said they want an ''Alien'' movie repeatedly --- and this would be their first true return to form if so it appears. Will giving the people what they asked for pay off? Could this finally be an entry to rival Alien and Aliens?
Prometheus and Covenant were garbage. They under-performed and received such mediocre fan and critic support that Scott couldn't get his planned third installment green lit. By allowing others to revitalize the franchise, maybe Scott hopes to convince the studio to once again let him vomit over a franchise he never created, but which is intrinsically associated with him.

@@msarek4100 W-Y was willing to kill all crew to acquire the specimen. If they ever had access to Ripley's cryopod she would have simply been killed. The Nostromo was officially listed as missing, crew assumed dead. The novel you reference had to navigate the canon of the existing films. It wasn't a deliberate creative choice by the studio, the IP holders, any of the directors, or even Scott, the current advisor. However, as all licensed products are the IP of the IP holders, the non-canon lore from books and games can be harvested for future canon products. That's essentially what Disney has done with the IP they've acquired.
Wish they would stop showing stuff now, they have basically show all the major plot points in the movie, i'm like OK you've already sold me on it! you can stop now please

ASH is a A.I. as such they could upload their discoveries and memories to like a Server......
This could mean that Davids A.I is in bedded in all of their Systems and he is running the Show....

I did hear an interview with Fede where he basically announced that in the last 20 minutes you will have no idea what's coming or what to expect.
Leads me to believe it's like alien isolation, in the 20 minutes we find the stations hive when we're led to think it's just scorched hunting them.

It's implied he was the first to be embedded with a crew. The crew on Romulus wouldn't know there was an Ash on the Nostromo
Ash was an Infiltrator model. Only animals and Aliens could tell the difference without a medical exam, which none of the human crew of the Nostromo were suspicious enough to perform.

Well if they knew of the ships distress signal to send nostramo in 1st place and Ash was relayin info then yea for me they could of went back. I know people may point to aliens as them going back but it's an awful lot of money to spend to build a colony and lose a company of marines just to aquire specimens when the eggs in the Derelict were just right there. I'm still super excited for the movie but this just now feels like a way to shoehorn in big chap

I suspect they won't explain Weyland-Yutani conspiracies, because the ones we create in our heads will always be more intricate.
I actually don't think they revealed the original alien itself. I think that what they show in the trailer is just an indentation the Big Chap left. The actual Big Chap itself was probably taken out of the cocoon to be experimented on. Who knows. Maybe the Big Chap escaped and tore the station to shreds and that's why it's abandoned and devoid of life when the characters of Romulus found it. But it does beg the question: if Weyland-Yutani knew about the alien from the get-go, why not just send a team back to LV-426 to acquire samples instead of looking for the Big Chap floating in space? Do they not want to do that work themselves? Is it too dangerous? But if the xenomorph is so important to them, why not spend the resources and take the risk to go back to LV-426 and acquire more specimens? Lots of questions now that I think about it
Apparently the people who've watched it said that after breaking big chap out of the resin he's almost fully paralysed and dying so they torture him and experiment on him in a bacta tank like thing, but that sequence is only about 5 minutes long, so they're releasing a comic of all the experiments they carried out being shown.

You were missing something very important in that image of the big chap. That’s not the big chap, that’s the negative cast of it! That’s the rock AROUND it, not the Xeno itself.
So this means that they didn’t probably get some sort of a blood sample and clone it. This means that that thing “thawed” and came out of it.
If they knew everything what happends on Nostromo why they go for fossil and not straight to LV426?
My only guess is, that it would be a bit safer to take the fossil as a sample than to have to deal with that nest of eggs on the derelict. I'd probably choose fossil hunting over face-hugger wrangling first, plan B would be Hadley's Hope colony.

@MrHReviews I dont know if you have yet realized, but every trailer for a different region has a couple of seconds of footage that is different. Ie. The korean ver shows the romulus & remus station complete in full frame. The latin american version shows a bit more of the asteroid and so on. If you see all the different versions, you can see longer shots of each scene ;) Im still waiting for someone to find all versions and edit all new footage into one video... cof cof

Exactly what I have been saying. I feel like this movie could be inspired by aspects of it. And for anyone reading this, the audio book is incredible. They have a voice actress that sounds just like Sigourney.

@msarek4100 Don't forget about MU-TH-UR the ship's A.I. was well aware about Ripley's survival & was probably connected to Ripley's escape shuttle
There is an audio book that takes place with Ripley and Ash in another station, not sure of it's cannon but in it Ash download his memory into the memory banks of the shuttle. So maybe that's what Ash did made a back up of himself otherwise it is kinda breaking some stuff or throwing logic out the window.
There was a line in Aliens where Ripley states that the company ordered Nostromo to set down, implying that they knew an engineer ship was out there somewhere and were using innocent ships to track it down. They’ve already shown that human life means nothing, so recovering Ripley’s pod and then sending her into deep space on purpose is not much of a stretch

That's why they replaced the Nostromo science officer with Ash, and later Ripley told the rest that the creature was probably going to be used for the company's bio-weapons division.

I think they are desperate for Romulus to post a big opening week. Failure to do so might harm the franchise and the direction they're wanting to take it. It is concerning when you have the director and studio revealing so much and releasing so many trailers, as it could indicate the film did poorly with test audiences and the studio marketing is desperate to gin up enthusiasm and initial ticket sales. It could also just be part of a high octane marketing campaign.

The NECA toys revealed it also. The VERY first trailer showed the odd looking meteor being pulled into the ship which was very obviously big chap in a rock/coccoon etc.

I don't think WY knew about the true fate of the Nostromo until 2137 when the flight recorder was recovered during the events of Isolation. By then, the crew of the Anesidora had shut off the signal coming from the derelict, so they didn't know it's precise location until the Jordans rediscovered it prior the the events of Aliens.
Plot hole!! If Weyland Yutani knew everything, why did it take 57 years for them to find the derelict on LV426? Especially when they've had people there for many years before that to set up the colony.
I could probably write an entire essay on what this reveals, the ramifications and potential narrative threads it can lead to. You're right, this seemingly simple dialogue, opens up a pretty big can of worms.

I hate it when trailers or press reveals story points and spoilers. What sells more tickets than anything else is word of mouth and the more they spoil the less people will talk.
Usually that happens when the best bits are in a trailer. I hope this is not the case with this movie
Alvarez said he is not one to give stuff away.... but maybe all of these TV Spots and New Trailers are not his idea but that of Disney and the Marketing Team.
Looking at all we have so far, its easy to piece together like 70% of the Movie.
However there are a few reports that the Movie introduces something NEW which we have yet to be Shown.
But then this means that the 3 Humans who are not Hosts... manage to get through/past a pair of Xenomorphs and something else. (Rain likely surviving) or maybe not?

But it wasn’t just for the Nostromo.
It was a COMPANY wide priority.
With the talk about the updated info about Ripley being the only survivor. Have you read or listened to Alien: Out of the Shadows? Ash downloaded his consciousness into the Narcissus and even controlled where the craft went. Ripley ended up getting rescued and ends up experiencing ANOTHER Xenomorph outbreak. It would be the perfect time for Ash to send detailed information back to Weyland Yutani. Eventually Ripley was put back into the Narcissus after some brain surgery that ended up wiping the traumas associated with her rescue and Ash was purged from the Narcissus.
Why would they search for 1 alien lost in space when they should know about lv 426?

Back in 1980 I met a kid at Lake George ( I was like 7 or 8 myself) who had the OG Alien Beast action figure, I mean it was freaking huge and everything. We got to talking about the movie and I asked him more or less what the end game was for the beast and he said it wants to turn other people into Aliens so I always wondered how he came by that little piece of information since the infamous "cocoon" scene had been cut from the theater release.
They left her in space because she knew it was the company that sent them down there, they had the crew to be expendable and that she knew all of the laws that were broken by the company. Her being found was a fluke and they set it up to where they could pass it off as they didn’t know anything about her experience or the orders
Considering Weyland-Yutani deemed the crew of the Nostromo expendable in order to retrieve the organism in Alien, I would not be at all surprised if they deliberately left Ripley and prioritised searching for the Big Chap. Also emphasises their agenda in Aliens when it was revealed Burke new about the Derelict ship and deliberately let the colony get exposed to the Xenomorphs just so they could get as many samples as possible

Did you notice the opened 'Big Chap' cocoon was actually the negative imprint of the Alien, not the actual Big chap body.

Now they could also do the same with the Queen from Aliens because she was also blown into space if this is a success. Ridley Scott could make a film set between Aliens and Alien 3
In the novel for alien isolation they were looking for the nestromo and offered a lot of money for the blackbox when it was found
They built Hadleys hope on LV426 because they wanted to find the ship and what better rouse than “Miners rights “

This adds a big problem, if they knew about the alien then why wait to investigate LV426 and waste their time searching the vastness of space when they would have known there were thousands of eggs just sitting there.
With this revelation it just doesn't make any sense anymore. If they knew about the Nostromo, they knew where it set down and where the signal came from. Why search the vaccuum of space when you know it came from LV426 ? And how did they then not find the derelict for another 57 years ? Doesn't make sense to me.
That dialogue is from the movie. It’s either an Ash model on the Romulus station telling the scavengers that or they are listening to a file. There have been some leaks an Ash model is on the Romulus station.
Weyland interested in that Xenomorph. Searching for that crazy thing then as somebody was drifting out the space like Ripley
They've already revealed it pretty much. People have been calling it ever since the first trailer. Plus, if you're familiar with alien lore, they do a cocoon like they show in the trailer. It's actually been verified as well. And then the toys came out at San Diego Comic-Con which also confirmed it. It was going to be the big chap and then another alien and some face huggers. That's the world we live in. Unless you don't go on social media whatsoever

I like the fact they've gone back to the skull behind the dome look. It's meant to be of human origin and the head is stretched, so behind the dome is a stretched and morphed human skull. They changed the look in aliens

They left her in space. After the events of romulus and maybe future sequals, they lose access to the aliens, which forces then to finally retrieve ripley to reveal where the aliens came from
Now we know what the recovery team was carrying in one of the early stills the 'cocooned' Big Chap.
If that is the voice of the original (ALIEN) Ash, how would he have known whether there were any survivors? When he was destroyed on the Nostromo, Ripley, Parker and Lambert were still alive. Ash would have no way to know if only one had survived.
A footnote rgarding ammonites. Ammonites were cephalopods like squid, octopuses, cuttlefish, and nautiluses. They could be huge at up to 12 feet diameter. Ammonites that died out almost 70 million years ago.
