Just saw the movie tonight, really loved the atmosphere, practical effects, and soundtrack. Cailee Spaeny and David jonsson were especially good. They should've picked her to play Ellie in the last of us hbo series...
Same here. Too many so-called behind-the-scenes features are little more than a succession of interviews with the actors saying how wonderful the director was, the director saying how wonderful the actors were etc. I want to see how the special effects were done, how the creatures were engineered, stuff like that.
Yeah, I knew they'd augment the Facehuggers with CGI at times and I understand why. But the fact that they still had practical Facehuggers to work with I feel really helped the actors with their performances.
@@cjkalandek996 i bet a good case could be made about the psychology of acting and performance while being able to see something tangible vs green screen/CGI and how you cannot evoke the same visceral reaction. What if a few face huggers end up in the colony at the end of the movie? What if this sets ups a sequel to a colony infestation like Hadleys hope? Marines show up in the next movie and that’s why Hutson brings up “another bug hunt ?”
The only thing that keeps me from being sure this movie will be good is the cast. Too young, too small...just not believable at all. I know they are in their twenties but look like tiny teens. One thing about the original was, you immediately believed everyone's job and characters. Space teens going to loot a station seems even more "unbelievable" in a sense. I still think it will be good. Evil dead was pretty brutal.
I know what you mean. Even though many of the cast are in their mid to late twenties, they are all made up to look like they are barely out of school, including the supposed owner and captain of a orbital space travel capable ship. The original alien had characters of a range of ages, from Ripley the youngest at 26 to Dallas in his forties and Ash whose actor was nearly fifty at the time. It all gave a certain verisimilitude to the core 'space trucker meets monster' conceit of the movie. In Romulus, on the other hand, the fact that every last person who is going on this supposedly high risk salvage mission to an abandoned orbital corporate research facility would certainly get asked for ID if they tried to buy alcohol feels off. Some youngbloods as greenhorns in the group is fine, especially if this is a 'no questions asked' kind of gig that is looking for people naïve and desperate enough to go in to something blind if it pays well enough, but you would still expect more seasoned people to be running the show and leading the operation. The total absence of anyone who could believably have the slightest practical experience of this sort of thing from the cast suggest to me that this decision was not made in service of the plot or characterisation, but instead was done in the name of stereotypical 'slasher-bait' casting conventions, and Alien is not just another interchangeable slasher franchise - this isn't a summer camp in space with Jason Vorhees replaced by the Xenomorph. More than anything else I have seen about Romulus, it is this casting choice that gives me pause and leads me to wonder whether Fede Alvarez really understood the assignment.
Thats what I want to hear "CUT, restart it again" basically multiple takes to get the best shot, and attention to detail, its got to be perfect. I'm gona go see it in Cinemas.
Born in 1989, I am a long-time fan of the Alien series directed by Ridley Scott. I saw new hope after watching Alien Romulus, which was released in Korea yesterday. I felt that Fede Alvarez made this movie with great respect for Alien. I was terrified and entertained at the same time in the theater. Thank you.
Let's throw a bunch of Gen Z to remake this movie. That's all we need to do. Oh! and while you're at it, show some lame animatronic face huggers to be able to say ""No CGI were involved''.
Using some kid actors, very cheap, that’ll keep the costs down along with very the few sets. Lots of behind the scenes footage of people being big shots.
@@chrisadams8182 too bad, i was kinda hoping they would do the same planet as in Aliens since this new movie is happening between Alien and Aliens, would be cool to connect that.
Having much younger kids on the ship gives such an unauthentic feel to the whole premise of this franchise. It's as if it was a Disney flick...I predict a fail.

I have a feeling this is gonna be a good Alien movie, I mean this dude directed Don't Breath and Evil Dead.
Can i say something?
It matched most of my expectatives, this film IS ALIEN again
Alvarez yet again showing he's one of the best working horror directors today.
Im praying for this to be a box office hit... We want to be entertained.. Let's hope this brings it
Yes, we need this kind of filmmaking to make a comeback. This is what it´s all about.
we are due for a new alien flick that doesn't insult the fans and the audience's intelligence, like the last two crappy ones did
The sets are just chef's kiss
I gotta get me one of those full size face huggers and put it on my Roomba
That face huger is not the same type that ingact the girl in the trailer. I think Big Chap turned into a queen after it was experimented on.

As a SAG eligible actor these are the moments that really help actors and audiences alike appreciate what it really takes to put a movie together.
