This film was actually quite visionary. When it was released I thought there was no way people can be this dumb in the future. Looking at most people today, I'd say we're right on track.

Its great! you got the rich ride along who shilled money to be a tourist. Biologist who thinks he can tame an alien "snake", just like how we had that guy who worked in the medical industry sabotaging vaccines because he didnt believe in them. People not wearing masks and people openly breathing alien air. Its freaking amazing. Weve got exact facsimiles. Not to mention no one here believed in scientific protocol that would be developed in the past, much like flat earthers believing the world is flat today even though we solved that shit eons ago.

Ridley Scott had no concept for a prequel when he announced he wanted one. Worst decision he ever made in his career was letting fuckwit film directors allowing this trash to be made. I've seen novices give firstaid more carefully than the crew in this film when they handled ALIEN biological simples.
Uh. A group of scientists that are experts took off their masks while operating an experiment and blew up the specimen with their own tools. Perfection.

If it was cut, then it's not in the movie and we simply have to assume bad writing that led to incredibly unstable and unprofessional specialists being chosen for a journey to another world in search of alien civilisations.

Idk how humanity in movies can be advanced and smart enough to invent ships that can travel to other star systems, advanced AI and robotics to explore other systems, but also stupid to make decisions such as "Hey its breathable atmosphere on this strange planet we just landed on but lets take our helmets off because we dont need to check for pathogens or viruses in this new planet and we will all be a-okay!"
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I read an article a while back so I'm recalling from memory. In essence the article stated that pathogens and viruses have to evolve with other forms of life in order to access the cells of any given life form and there by function as they do. So if we or any advanced species were to enter a totally alien biosphere the microbes and pathogens present, if any would not pose a risk to our body's because fundamentally they evolved with a completely different source of life. The argument could be made that if we took sample of say tree DNA from a lush planet and compared it to that of trees on Earth and found near identical sequences THEN we'd be wise to take extreme caution. Not to say that extreme caution shouldn't be taken when exploring new planets.

One random mutation is a thing, one out of the thousands of species just needs to be compatable enough to cause issues.
Another possible problem is Allergic reactions, which can be lethal.
If your body is not able to process the pathogens they can pile up when breathing air or eating and cause issues by simple clogging.
Another potential risk is Pathogen byproducts. Botulism is caused by bacteria secreting products that are toxic to humans because they act as a musscle supressor and freeze musscles.
Never underestimate human nature even from real scientist /fictional ones & hollywood scriptwriters /producers etc.
This movie had to potential to be one of the most inspiring Sci-Fi experiences of the decade. Instead, it became a source of unintentional comedic idiocy. People not utilizing basic de-con procedures, little to zero caution, people handling alien's head without appropriate PPE, and an endless list of dumb decisions. Not to mention the focus on the topic of a AI that has been programmed to be independent and intentionally anti-human, as if that's a novel concept. What a shame.
Those are small grievances. The movie is gorgeous in every aspect. Beautiful cinematography. The beautiful scenes along with the music and quirky characters. Prometheus felt like an alien movie atmosphere wise. The crew is dumb in ever single alien movie.

Since it first released I always loved this movie, but this scene gave me the chills, “what did we do wrong?” Imagine traveling thousands upon thousands of light years away just to find out they’re huge af and plan on killing your species.

That one scene where the engineer get into the space jockey cockpit is pretty amazing and it does tie everything together right back to the original Alien movie. This movie gets better after a few viewings. The sci-fi elements are great. The stupid cliche horror film decisions by the actors that lead to obvious death scenes holds this movie way back.

The design seems to be loosely based on the ancient mayan 'Pakal Votan relief' found in Palenque. The concepts/lore/historical underpinnings/religious implications and imagery is absolutely spot on in this film, as well as the AI story line.... but most everything else could have been done much much better. Ignoring all of the obvious mistakes the characters make (could be an over exaggeration by the writer/director representing how humanity fumbles it's way through - creating things and acting in ways that are self destructive), which forced a specific conclusion in order to half way line up with the past movies, I enjoyed it.
According to Ridley Scott, the Space Jokeys and the Engineers are the same thing.

I love the space travel portion of this film, it's so eerie and intimidating seeing those shots where the ship just floats on by in the black void of space. Also, an awesome looking ship, doesn't look too fictional like Star Treks "disc" ships. Looks really grounded and more believable just how the propulsion system appears to work.
ship has credibility, aside from the artificial gravity existing in the ships bridges, obtained without mechanical aids (centrifuge/rotating systems). People walk in the ship as they do on earth. If they achieved such an advanced technology to recreate artificial gravity aside from mechanical solutions, they could have used it also for propulsion, instead of some kind of reaction engines as seen in the movie (see the ships external pods). If you control gravity, that means you can bend at your will the fabric of spacetime, so a way to travel - being so much advanced in tech - could be literally folding space like the Dune's heighliners do.

Everything that Ridley Scott has ever done is visually stunning and I love this movie I love the whole story and the fact that there's supposed to be a third movie after Covenant and the last interview I saw was Ridley Scott he said the script what's finished but they were trying to come up with the money to do the movie so I don't know that was over a year ago.
The thing opens up in a clear threatening stance and his instinct is to lean in and try to touch it. A child would know better.
One of the best comedies of all time.
I mean... Alien Covenant takes the cake. Compared to that, this film is a masterpiece.

Personally, after seeing this movie quite a few different times over the years, I honestly still enjoy it. It's not perfect or amazing, but I definitely think it's at least worth a watch. I always thought the visuals were stunning, and the production quality of the sets and filmography was really cool to see. I also always felt that the concept of the movie was really interesting too, this idea that there was a different alien race that were our "creators", that never survived to see the evolution of the human species. It's too bad all of the "highly qualified" scientists sent on this super important expedition for humanity were all idiots and couldn't make a rational decision to save their own life. That's what really ruined the movie.

The most fascinating character in this film are the spaceship engineers and the engineers' civilizational culture. Unfortunately the film makers/producers did not devote any time to develop those characters nor their history and culture in this film nor in any of the movie sequels. The engineers, their culture and tech is very fascinating.

on earth almost everything is aggressive and will either bite you, sting you, hiss, scratch. Why would you believe a cobra looking hissing creature is going to be a friendly. Come here little guy, let me pet you like a bunny. This behavior is so contrary to how anyone would behave in this situation. I can't even get strangers to come near my 10 pound dog. Very unrealistic. The actual reaction would be , get the hell back, pull out weapons, prepare to flee, fight or flight not rest and get digested.

You would also imagine that they send at least 4 armed scientists to explore each area and have radios to communicate with each other. Like for example with meeting the engineer they could have literary sent in 10 armed scientists or guards to try to kill the engineer and not let him escape with his plan. I know engineers are hella strong, but damn.

Far from a perfect movie but personally I loved it. Love the entire vibe of the film. And plus anything with Fassbender is usually outstanding.

It's a real shame the sequel was just another Aliens flick instead of setting a new series. I'd have loved to see an all out war of man struggling to survive against a rogue Promethean species.
Lol if that's the case watch the Independence Day: Resurgence. It's like watching starwars. I like the concept of this, they unveil things about aliens and make it a lore. This movie was just bad at script. The soundtrack was there, on par with the art. it's just the way the characters interact with the things on set makes it a meh.

Imagine waking up after being dead for 1,000 years. The first thing you understand is agonizing pain you can't comprehend and then 15 seconds later you explode.
the writing was incredible: "there is a storm coming, you will die." - _ "no! we need more time!" all this on their FIRST DAY THERE.

This one was bad but it was miles better than the sequel.

This is a fantastic movie, the actors, the story, the visual effects, everything is fantastic. The other prequel "Covenant" is also a great movie.
Finally someone likes the prequels!
This movie had such a great cast, I get a kick out of thinking about other roles they played. We've got Stringer Bell, Furiosa, Wong, Aldrich Killian, Magneto, Lysa Arryn., and Wun Wun all in the same movie.

Idris Elba's accent in this movie will forever haunt me 😭
Although the engineer had bad intentions for humans, I liked the way he just flat out ignored the inquiry by the droid, ripping it's head off and slapping and destroying the others for the inconsequential fools that they were. They were just so, well... human. The way he moved with purpose, mission and confidence (albeit cgi, yes I get it) was like watching poetry in motion. Supreme intelligence.

I absolutely love this film in spite of all its flaws! I love it! I can't say how many times I've watched it now but it's up there- I somehow find it comforting! This film! Comforting of all feelings!! That said, there are just so many things that are inconsistent in the plot, so much dumb behaviours committed by the crew of the Prometheus...but in the end, I think that it's Noomi Rapace who makes this film for me - I find her so intensely beautiful and attractive!
It's the foreign body extraction scene where she's running around in those skimpy garments with that awesome body, that flat stomach, sweating profusely.

Man, I had such high hopes from Prometheus..the movie was riding on the Ancient Astronauts wave and I was betting big on Ridley.

When it comes to genius, interesting, and different Alien Films, two of my top 5 picks are "Signs (2002)" and "Life (2017)", but this is somewhat of an interesting film. The idea or concept that Alien Beings are the ones that created Humanity and then were unsatisfied is a creative original idea from a screenwriter!

“Life(2017)” in my opinion was a poor man’s Alien rip off, twisting the ending to try and make it look like it wasn’t a rip off.
Things are wrong on several levels: 1. No preliminary orbital survey, no drones, no robots on the ground first. 2. People are regular people from 21st century. Not enhanced for rigors of space exploration. No difference in education and mentality. 3. Tech looks and feels like it's from 21st century. "Easy does it" will be mostly out of fashion with AI landing things. 4. And... they do stupid things. Not in the way people do stupid things, but in the way bad screenplay writers write bad screenplays.

I was really hoping this would be a great movie, but the totally grating incompatibility of the crew with one another along with the constant, never-ending, unmitigated stupidity of EVERY ONE of their decisions completely destroyed any enjoyment I could've gotten from this steaming pile of dog shit.

Prometheus is a good film if you imagine it in an alternate Alien universe. It took me a dozen times viewing to realize, but that's what you have to do enjoy it.
Perfect commentary on this dumpster fire. And don't get me started on the rat turd that is Alien: Covenant.

Some bad casting and some REALLY bad dialogue in this film. Note to film makers- instead of covering a young actor in prosthetics to make them look old (which never looks right), feel free to cast an actual old person.

This is literally the in-flight version of Prometheus from Minami-Daito to Kita-Daito. (two islands that are located just 8 miles from each other, which can be reached via flights in about 20-25 minutes)

I dunno why people love to hate on this entry, I understand it didn't EXACTLY line up with the universe and plot points of previous connected films but still man, the cinematography, the script, the CG the ship design I mean this movie is ICONIC imo, deserves more respect!!!...
OH and P.S I don't agree with or endorse the stupid decisions the "experts" make in this film, but if they didn't the plot wouldn't move to the places it does so I UNDERSTAND their inclusion!!..

A mission that probably cost billions of dollars sent Earth's best and most intellectual humans and among them are two crack addicts just trying to get by FiField and Milburn who constantly put the mission at danger.

For a group of supposed highly intelligent scientists, crew and equipment funded by limitless cash, they made the more stupid decisions. Simple precautions like quarantine, using drones to investigate, protocols that protect the crew (first and foremost). etc. They have all the time in the world to investigate this. But instead they rushed in without any regard for common sense.
Man Shaw was such an insufferable character. The difference between her character and Ripley is just night and day. Ripley was one of the greatest sci fi hero characters of all time, and Shaw made you want to gouge her eyes out in every scene.
I have not seen this movie, but from these clips alone, I cannot understand how anyone likes it. Every single character except the robot and the captain were insufferable, and I actively wanted them to die. Aren't you supposed to root for the heroes? The biologist deciding to pet the angry space cobra was especially aggravating.
