  • This week I sewed up my DVF Wrap dress (Vogue Pattern V2000) for the 50th anniversary of the wrap dress. My thoughts, sewing process and review are in this video. I also used my pearl kit for an upcycled sweatshirt look! Next, I'm working on my "all-black" capsule work wardrobe.

    I wore a store-bought version of this in the 1960s from her. It tickles me that 50 years later I'm going to buy the pattern.

    I love what you did with the buttons on the V2000 dress. The fabric is gorgeous. You look GREAT! Also, pearls are a wonderful idea to jazz up that sweatshirt.

    I recently watched a documentary with Diane VF where she talks about her life. It’s called- DIANE VON FURSTENBERG: Woman In Charge. It’s on both Disney plus and Hulu right now. It’s an excellent show. I had no idea that she had been married to a prince. Or that her mother had survived a Nazi concentration camp. Her amazing life is most certainly an inspiration to anyone who knows in their heart that they just can’t be like everyone else! She is an icon.

    The dress is beautiful! I agree with you about fabrics where the wrong side is just blank white though...it does diminish my feelings about the fabric a bit.

    The dress looks absolutely beautiful on you. You did a bang-up job! I have the same reaction to fabrics that are obviously printed like that. What I've decided to do (I'll be making cardigans out of the fabrics) is to use thin knits that will act as lining for the cardigans. Another thing you might think about if you wind up using similarly made fabric, is to dye the fabric. Get maybe an extra yard to play around with and be sure to note how much polyester is/isn't in the fabric. That will determine the kind of dye you'll need; whether it's for natural fabrics or polyester.

    • @RavenMaureen
      @RavenMaureen  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you so much! I love the idea of dyeing it to give it more color! I might try that in the future

      @@RavenMaureen You're so welcome. Keep in mind the idea of simply lining the garment with a thinner knit. It might prove a lot less complicated.

    Very inspiring! I bought the pdf version of the pattern and there is no size guide. 😨 Also, worried as it’s suitable for both knits and woven fabrics. Would you be able to recommend a size for me in viscose jersey? (36” 28” 36”) I will make a muslin, but would be great to be in the ballpark. Thanks! 🙏

    • @RavenMaureen
      @RavenMaureen  7 месяцев назад

      Hey there - I believe the size chart is on the website: simplicity.com/vogue-patterns/v2000
      Based on your measurements, it looks like you could either go for a 12 or 14 - but definitely review the size chart before cutting your fabric. I hope this helps! :)

      If you have not already, make a toile ( also in jersey) to confirm the best bodice length for you AND the best placement for the "wrap" or ties. I just finished the dress using knit fabric which did stretch a little . You just have to try the bodice on at each step of the sewing process to ensure that everything fits and is in the place where it should be. But its a lovely dress once competed. You'll be pleased.

      @@RavenMaureen I finally finished the wrap dress using the same pink knit fabric that you did ! I only have the buttons for the cuff left to put on. I have an old mechanical Singer 201 so i did not have access to the zigzag stitch or other special stitches or feet to better manage the stretchy fabric. Although quite lovely, that fabric was a challenge to sew on, but i used Schmetz stretch knit needles and tightened the tension so it worked out. I wasn't sure at first but it is such a great great pattern. I will make the dress again in woven wool for the fall-this time around it should go much faster. I just love how great it makes my shape look. Thanks much for the inspiration you provide and the wonderful suggestions of patterns you give us. Bless you. 🙂.

      Oh and another thing. I found out that if you are shopping online with Joanne fabric & crafts and don't check out immediately, you will be given a substantial discount. I left that knit fabric in my basket for a few days. Every time I checked back in I was surprised to see that the cost per yard had gone down. I was thrilled. You probably already know this, but it made my day. I have been purchasing more things from them since then, including my new cutting table that I was finally able to get for half price down from $207..
