The iPhone 15 Pro Max Front Camera: A Serialized Nightmare? Selfie Camera Not Working After Replaced

- Did Apple do this on purpose? I have replaced the Front Camera on this iPhone 15 Pro Max with another OEM Front Cam. Then I RESTORED the phone with iOS 17.0.2. now the front cam loads, but doesn't take any pictures and seems to freeze up.

I was able to confirm this is in fact actually happening across my two iPhone 15 Pro Max as well.
Is this #FrontCameraGate?
What do you think? Is this a bug? Or by design?
Did Apple serialize the front camera, so it's now paired to the main logic board?
What will Apple charge to replace the front camera at the Apple Store?
How about at the Self Repair store?
The iPhone 14 Pro Max Front Camera/TrueDepth Camera replacements are about $287 right now. So I can only imagine it will be the same if not more for the 15 Pro Max.

I hope that it's a bug and will be fixed with an iOS update, but I'm not getting my hopes up too much. I do hope that we'll either be able to get a programmer for it, or potentially replace it like we do on older ones where we can pop the actual camera out itself.

Hello, I'd like to share my experiences with Iphone 15 PRO front camera repair . I change front camera and reflash to IOS 17.3. After repair you have picture, but auto focus not working. I try two new cameras. On both new cameras auto focus not working. IOS allow me take pictures. IOS not allow you to take video with front camera (only sound is recorded). IOS is also randomly turning of portrait mode on back camera. After change front camera back to original portrait mode on back camera working correctly. Result: Apple not allow you to repair front camera by yourself.

I’m curious to what 3rd party camera apps do after a restore when the front camera is replaced.

8/16/2024 - STILL NOT WORKING
tried one today.
I heard on the 16 they are pairing the screen protector to the screen. if you change the protector you lose the ability to use apple pay

Yes it has been restored.
iPhones 15’s with all original parts have issues with the front camera.
This is a known issue they need to fix it.
What issues are they having exactly?
@VCCBoardRepairs the front/selfie camera will freeze or lag, and you can't take a photo.
It happens to me every day, I have tried several different iPhone 15s, including a pro Max. All have the same issue.
When you tap the white button to take a photo, it seems to register as it may take a photo anywhere up to 30 seconds later.
The entire ui freezes and doesn't respond. It is completely random though. But happens often enough to make the selfie camera the most unreliable selfie camera I have ever used on a smartphone.
My front camera don’t even work it’s legit just the rear i got the update apple just finessed me I’m not doing anything extra to get my back camera to work I payed too much to be doin all that, designed by apple in cali? Expected
Just like the iphone X.
You can replace the iPhone X front cameras and it will work.
