Great review! Glad i bought the 887 years ago. Still going strong. 😊
Thanks, yup, those 887's are workhorses :) I have two of them, one of which was my first 20v Dewalt tool (along with a 996 drill when I replaced my 18v stuff) and although a little beat up looking, it's still going strong.
I bought a DCF845 to replace an older DCF887 and it is a little smoother feeling. I sorta wish I went with the DCF850 due to the depth allowing it to fit in tighter spaces.
So not just me who feels like the 845 is smoother somehow...neat.
Can always get an 850 too lol although out of the two, I'd take the 845 over the 850.
I got two of the 850s, very convenient to have the shorter head
@@andreytsytsyn1131two?!
@@SomeGuysGarage oh yeah, I hate switching tips so I got two, still have my 887 for grimier work, the two 850s I use for my woodworking/cabinet building
@@andreytsytsyn1131ahh ya, that's a good way to go :) I definitely do the same, running different bits in each impact/drill.
Another great comparison video. Well done!
Thanks again, appreciate the continued support :)
I have the DCF801 and I recently got a 12V5A battery which increased the performance of the tool quite significantly. It could be good to test it your way and see the differences.
No doubt it would help, just like a 5ah out performs a 2ah on the 20v line. Thing is, the 12v line for me is small and light duty use, so having a larger battery defeats that purpose. Of course if see one on sale for a good price, I might be tempted ;)
@@SomeGuysGarageAgree with the portability. The capacity is just one factor, the weight is important, but the max current is more beneficial for drills and impact drivers. I use my 5Ah with my reciprocating saw, works almost 3x longer than a 3Ah which gets overheated very quickly. If you have a chance, please test the 5Ah. Regards.
@@magicscorner Yup, if I can get my hands on one I'll give it a test for sure!
Great review, thank for including the weights
welcome, glad it was helpful!
Great comparison of these. Interesting even though I am a Milwaukee guy!
I need to become a red and yellow guy someday lol
The one I put up on Friday night with sixteen tools is even more interesting :)
I appreciate that you weight the drivers without the batteries. Other videos I've seen weight with different battery packs, and that is not a fair comparison.
And no bits or belt clips or anything, I wanted to show just the tool weight differences as I thought that would be the most useful :) Glad you agree!
I feel good. Someone stole my old one just bought an 887 with 2 4ah batteries for $175. I’ve been missing my old one but hey this guy is is the 2best
The 887, even being the old model, is still a great impact...I find I use it more than the newer models just because I've got a feel for the torque/impacting/trigger.
The dcf845 is also faster than the Dcf850 But not stronger. You should test the torque now! Excellent video.
Yup, 845 is the fastest right now...and really that is what usually matters with impact drivers more so than outright torque.
As for measuring torque, I don't have a test rig for that but our friends at Torque Test Channel have done some great testing there :)
The 887 gets extra points because it's 10 years old. Not quite a fair comparison if it's that old, but also a strong endorsement that it's still working well.
For sure, the 887 even ignoring its age is still a great impact driver...I've been using them so long that I have better trigger control with it, so I often grab it before the new ones. It definitely gets the extra points in my book too :)
Everyone know flathead screws are the absolute BEST for using impact drivers
What are you? a masochist?!?
Don't forget to bring lotsa bandaids! 😂
great comparison. ive been debating between the 845 and the 850 for a bit. dont really want to blow the money and be disappointed. Excellent timing on the video. looking forward to your review of the dcd800 thats the other one i have my eye on
Glad it was helpful!
I should have something up with the DCD800 in it compared to a bunch of other things this coming weekend I hope :) already filmed, just have to edit.
What did you go for?
I have the 887 and the 850. Bought the 850 because of the smaller head for tight places. I considered the 840/845, but speed wasn't as much of a factor for my use.
Yup, the small head is a pretty unique and sometimes irreplaceable feature.
Torque test channel and Project Farm better watch out. Good quality testing.
That's some high praise, they're both amazing channels and I've collab'd once with TTC and he was great!
Well, this video still didn't help me decide. LOL. My old 887 light stopped working, trigger catches, sometimes hard to shift forward and reverse. Been trying to decide on 850 for compactness, or 845 since in the buy one, get one offers. First video that showed how chubby the 850 is though. Great content!
Welcome! I would actually say wait right now if you can, there's a new 860 out really soon.
@@SomeGuysGarage Believe that's the one Torque Test Channel kept snapping bits off in. Looked like a pain to get em out...
@@movaughn20 yeah, TTC did just check that one out a week or two ago and did have some broken bits. This is far more likely when using socket adapters on an impact driver, when used with screws you're more likely to break the screw. I reocmmend not using an impact driver with a socket adapter anyway, just get an impact wrench (who doesn't want more tools?)
I guess if you are trying to decide 845 or 850, just pick up whichever is cheaper?
The dcf801 with a 2ah battery against three impact drivers of 20V with 5ah batteries wasn't a good idea. You should use the 5ah battery for the 12v or 2ah batteries on the 20 volt. Maybe next time! Anyway, good video.
It's what I had, most DCF801 kits come with the little 2ah....so just acts as a reference point for those considering it. It was never supposed to be fair to put a 12v in with the 20v :)
@@SomeGuysGarage Exactly my point! For reference, I would have liked to see the performance of the 12v with the same size battery. It would have been technically more beneficial! We all know they are different voltages! But anyway, thanks for the video.
The 12volt really wakes up with the 5AH battery. I have the Xtreme tools and they are all more peppy with the bigger battery.
Someone else mentioned that, I've been keeping an eye on prices of the 5ah 12v packs. Thing is though, having all the bigger ones, I don't have much need for the bigger packs, if I need more beans I just go to 20v.
@@SomeGuysGarage I hear that. I personally own the 18v 845 too... for those extra beans.
I'm personally hoping that they bring a power stack 12v battery into the market. Probably won't happen but a man can dream.
@@Davearoooo just feels like they neglect the 12v line, but ya, a 2ish ah powerstack 12v would be nice.
Nice Video, i liked it.. straight to to point
Glad it was helpful! If there's anything else you'd like to see, I'm all ears (err well eyes lol)
Helpful, helpful! Regards from Baltimore.
Glad it was helpful! I'm excited to see how the new DCF860 does, it should top these guys :)
what happens if the battery is 2 ah vs 5 ah ?
Minor performance improvements with the bigger battery. I used a 1.7ah powerstack because it's about the same as a 5ah in performance. I mostly use these impacts with the 2ah though day to day, nice balance of weight, power, and runtime.
When is the 860 coming out?
Haven't heard a specific date, but should be really soon!
What’s the difference in the 845 and 845b
The 845 is likely in a kit with a battery or two (there should be something like d2 at the end saying 2 of a certain size battery)
The 845b is just the bare tool with no batteries or accessories (bag, charger, etc.)
Otherwise, they are identical from a tool perspective.
I have the 801 and 887 and I love them both love the 801 for how light it is but 887 gets anything done
Agreed on both points!
Ill keep my 887, works great and gets the job done. By the time its ready to be replaced we might be in the 900 series lol. Great video though!
Agreed, the 887 is still a strong performer...no need to upgrade just yet :)
Funny how the 850 Atomic weighs more than the bigger ones.
She's a short but chubby thing lol
How about demonstration for dcf888?
The 888 is just the 887 with tool connect essentially, so should perform the same.
That's a SuperAwesome review.
Appreciate it :)
Спасибо! Вас приятно слушать и смотреть
Пожалуйста
Now he have to add in the 860.😂
Yup, as soon as I can get my hands on one :)
Ojala pronto pueda comprar el dcf845 😊👍👍
Hope so!
I don’t want any argument in the comments about that… silences mode lol
LoL :D
What about the 840?
Someone else asked about it, I'm keeping my eye out for a good deal on one to do a follow up.
New video with the 840 is here: ruclips.net/video/knSbiy5-5v4/видео.html
@@SomeGuysGarage omw over to watch it💯
You missed the dark horse... Dcf 840
True, but it's the lower end of things...kinda like the 801 but 20v.
I don't think it actually is. It's a lowes exclusive vs home depot. No (xr) markings but if you compare the body to the 845, nearly identical. Biggest difference is trigger throttle control, no select speeds. But I'm telling you it's wrecked the 850 and 845 in some tests.
@@salemsouthyou can buy them on amazon and such too...I was just checking prices and the 840 is less than $10 cheaper than the 845, and specs say it's lower power.
You've got me curious though, so if I can snag one for a good price I'll test it out.
I'm telling you now, you'll be shocked. I watched another channel about a year ago, that's what piqued my interest in it over the 850. Then the 845 came out, but marginal difference in tests, made the 840 seem like the one to choose. Some good deals with a battery and charger. Now in saying that. I'd be curious to see if the 845 is tuned for more battery, like higher performance with a 6ah etc.
@@salemsouththat would make a good follow up, I could try them on 2ah, 5ah, powerstack 1.7ah, 6ah and 9ah flexvolts, etc....and then throw a 840 vs 845 in the mix :) ideas!
T25 is far better than Robertson
Madness, nothing is better than Robertson!
sıkı bir dewalt hayranı olarak söylürum ...dewalt sadece pişmanlık :(
