- Step 1: Discovering your "Why"
- Step 2: Fear the consequences
- Step 3: Clarify and create your game plan
- Step 4: Develop energy contingencies
- Step 5: Find your people
Step 5 😅 . . .
Hi Dear u may should learn Cantonese 😂😂
Intentional language learning is rather interesting in the sense that people expect results in very little time. A native speaker typically isn't expected to use their language at all for a few years, but rather just absorb the information - yet someone who decides to learn a second language is somehow hoping to be able to form basic sentences and have a simple conversation after a few minutes. I am no expert, but it does seem reasonable that a language learner should approach the challenge without too much stress and unrealistic expectations of progress, and instead take things in a comfortable pace.
Well said!
I’m watching baby Chinese videos, because that is basically my level of Chinese
@@luxifer185 interesting!
The difference to a native speaker is that native speakers learn their first language when they are a baby and a toddler. As such a young human you have zero resources and your brain is still very small, so all you can do is absorb and mimic.
When you are grown up, however, the methods of learning a language are plenty and there are several systems that you can use as an adult that can speed up your language learning process significantly. You are not a toddler anymore.
So depending on the language you are learning and the way you are learning it it's not unrealistic to be able to use the language rather quickly in a simple way.
Izzy, this context is so great and so motivating! Thank you so much for sharing.
You're so thoughtful and organised I'm so impressed haha.
Thank you for the advices! It was nice to listen to you!
Great to see the new video out! Keep up the good work Izzy ❤
Thanks for the tip Izzy. My favourite is using time blocking to allocate specific times for language study.
Thank you for your high-quality product! This video is very useful!
This is a great reference. Thanks for sharing
Time-blocking & energy contingencies are great tips! And ones I haven’t heard from most language learning RUclipsrs. Thanks! Спасибо большое за помощь))
Great video, thank you for the info Doc!
Your story of wanting to learn Chinese is almost exactly like mine! I'm 100% Chinese but since moving to the Uk at a young age, I lost touch with it and feel disconnected and somewhat embarrassed when visiting family in Malaysia because I couldn't read or express myself as well in the language. I'm intermediate level but want to progress to fluency. Your tips are very helpful, I'm aiming to apply these to new languages in future.
Omg exact same situation as you with all the same countries! May we not feel ashamed when we can’t speak as well as we look 😂
Ahhh yes I feel this so much! ❤❤❤
Language learning is super easy and fun. As long as you have the interest and motivation, nothing can stop you from learning it. For me I’m well versed in four foreign languages excluding my native tongue and want to add two more. It’s easy so long as you’re interested in the country it’s people and their culture. You can’t really learn a foreign language without any of those ingredients!😮
Hey. Just wanted to thank you podcasters and Tubers like you that finally got me starting off my 2nd RUclips channel. This time this journey is a lot more special. Keep up the great work!
Hello Izzy 🥰
I love this video, thank you so much for sharing your experience in language learning ❤
What a fabulous channel it is! I love it. I sense your positive vibes. Furthermore, it influenced me to thrive and gain better results in studying english :)
You're amazing! I enjoy watching all of your videos. Thank you for your hard work for making such an interesting content. Luv youu
Thank you Dr. Izzy for sharing a great video. 🥰
This is finally an honest humble and informative video ( and less repetitive). Thank you.
As a native speaker of mandarin who is learning english and a second foreign language, i'm really motivated by your video and i do love ur accent!! Thx for the inspiration ;)
❤❤I really love the way you speak, your accent is just so beautiful!
You are always so nice ❤,I will use your ideas for my English and Thai language learning
I always watch your video and I love your accent❤ This video is really helpful for me. I'm learning English and also Chinese too. Thank Izzy 💞
Thanks for the sharing. Actually I can absolutely talk with English native speakers for some common topics. And English is my working language. Whereas, each time I start a vocabulary APP to improve my vocabulary pool I feel terribly anxious because there are too many words unknown for me. I am also looking for a motivation to keep moving forward like the dilemma as you mentioned that as an adult, we have to work or take care of my kids. That makes me frustrated somehow. Not like playing a game, I can get money and experience for each action I make in a video game. Most of time, I get nothing from English learning. I can feel apparently I am not capable to memorize a word than when I was younger. All of above makes me frustrated. Thank you so much for the video. I think I can persist no matter how exhausted. I don't want to lose the connection with my friends in Australia. I believe one day I can get to the US to visit my cousin. I can go to London to see a football game for Arsenal. I can get to Australia to see my best friends. Keep moving then.
Brilliant Izzy, your video is really motivating me to continue my english learning. My ultimate goal is to sound like a native speaker.
A hours ago started to write scripts for youtube video to share my experience how I learned English with this 0 to fluent format🙈 And just got recommendation😅 Thank you, your experience was different and I learned new things ❤
beauty and brains! What a deadly combo! I hate going to see a doctor but you are for sure an encouragement to go more often 🤣
Love your style
I WOULD REALLY LOVE IF YOU WOULD MAKE A PODCAST OF YOUR OWN. PLS, I LOVE YOUR VOICE AND YOU ACCENT 😭
I feel like you're looking right into my eyes, into my soul!!
Also, I'd like to learn mandarin as well.
Hi Izzy
Thanks for sharing very informative video ❤
thanks , your video is really helpful!😊
Thank you very much for these great tipps! I‘ll go living in a new country in some weeks and have to learn a complete new language 🙈 so I need an effective system to achieve this goal. Thanks for this video! Greatings from Germany! Ana 💝
Thanks for sharing, Dr.
I have a fascination with the Japanese culture and plan on visiting Japan in the near future. So learning the language would be beneficial in my case, so that's my goal and that's what I've been doing. Motivation is the key factor when learning a new language. One of my best friends is half Japanese, so I pick her brain. Thanks for the push.
Also to 1st learn about that society.
1) Takashifrom Japan
2) Life + Shogo
Gan, batte!!! _(Good luck!!!)
Wow, your channel really exploded compared to just a few months ago. Good work!
Peace be upon you all. The part that interested me was the "goal". Determine the goal that will motivate you at the time of failure and frustration in the journey of learning the language . As for me and to answer your question, I would like to learn the Chinese language "Mandarin" to go through a new experience and adventure that I add to my life and get to know its people, and go through the experience of living with them, and as long as I am alive I will learn more a possible number of languages " (God willing / إن شاء الله) " Yes ! I am currently learning French and English 😎🗡️ .... and finally, I wish you success in your work Miss Izzy and everyone who aspires to learn, learn and learn
@IzzySealey Izzy you know how crazy I am, I'm trying to learn Spanish, Italian, Japanese and Arabic at the same time despite how bad an idea that is lol 😂 of course that's on top of being a doctor, making RUclips videos etc etc... Anyway, I'm in the process of managing my time and energy better, including making time for doing just a teensy weensy bit of language learning when I'm feeling too tired to do anything else! "What is your why?" is such an important point - one of mine is that I'd love to communicate with my patients and my viewers in their language! I would LOVE to learn Mandarin eventually (my sister has managed to teach herself!) so I very much look forward to your course! 🔥🔥
You can listen to videos, such as those by Zoe of Zoe Languages, a Chinese who also speaks
Arabic, Turkish, Farsi, German, French, etc.
Ruri Ohama, teaches a few languages, including parental Turkish & Japanese.
I am with you! I enjoy your Videos!
Hi Lzzy, I am Chinese. I am happy to hear that you want to know the culture. I like to listen your talking. It’s very enjoyable. Thank you🎉.
Hi, I miss your video. Thank you for sharing. I love your accent and the way you talk. 💙
Well done Izzy.
I will see you in the next video ❤ 👍
Hi Izzy! I'm starting the school year soon and I was wondering if you could make a video of how you used notion in university (if you used it)? It would be really helpfull. I love your videos as always!
Izzy, your smile is such a ray of sunshine. Your beauty, intelligence and your pronunciation is intoxicating, thank you for existing.
Aww thank you for your support since the start 😊❤
Your approach is Bright as the sun 🌹
Thank you for the recommendatiions!
Great video, thanks 👍🏻
Would just like to add that immersion is an unskippable part of the process. Anyone who wants to know the science please read Dr. Steven Krashens - input hypothesis. I have noticed the difference between speakers who still use English as a crutch to 'translate' in their head, versus people like myself who went completely monolingual for extensive periods of time. As a Brit who studies in South Korea, I have seen people who only 'study' and people who mostly immersed, the difference is night and day. Especially when giving class presentations in Korean. Either way, I enjoyed the editing style and your funnels in the description are nicely layed out. I think it's an effective business model you've got going here, definately will be taking notes. I hope looking into Steven Krashens research helps with your Mandarin journey.
Love your video always
im inlove with THE DOCTOR...her eyes is also talking by just looking at it..her smile is just wooowww...staring at her while talking about things is heaven..🥰🥰🥰😘😘😘
Great video! Thanks 👍🎸
Surbscribed to your channel today. You sound very positive.
Great ideas, I want to learn Chinese too because I had been watched Chinese movies for a long time but didn’t understand the language.
l love this episode because I am trying to learn English and Korean now and I do need to manage my time and energy more strategically and effectively.
You can listen to Ms. Lindie Botes, 1 of many polyglots on You Tube, 1 of few who study Korean.
very cool ! i am a registered massage therapist in Ontario,Canada and over the years there have been soooo many moments where a mainlander has spoken to me and i used what limited chinese i had to say a few words. Usually just to say yes or no or greet. They'd be soooo happy and then so disappointed that s all i had
however, there have been a few patients who are chatty and will talk to me in chinese. i forced myself to speak chinese each time and if i didn't know words i would say it in cantonese or english and we would both learn
2 months later, i started getting random comments saying my chinese improved alot since we were a full on conversation. My BIG goal atm is to learn how to read and write traditional characters
i just wanted to leave this comment because its nice to share the journey with someone - i think mandarin speaking wasnt too big a transition since i already speak cantonese fluently
im also learning bits n peices of Viet (very difficult) to impress a girl, Hindi in case of telemarketers and Arabic - after all, canada is very diverse
You seem like an amazing woman, and I enjoy your videos. But I am also amazed at how you think so differently from me about everything. I am learning Mandarin here an there as my seventh language. I am learning it not because my girlfriend is from China, but because it is a really neat language, (but I might skip for the most part reading and writing characters). As a teenager I read Shakespeare instead of going to school. I learned the power of language and realized I could do anything in life by mastering language. The Chinese have great performing arts and knowing Mandarin should help me appreciate that -- and performing arts also have great power. Medicine is interesting, I guess,. but it seems like a mystery to me.
Hello Izzy! I'm learning Mandarin too.
Thanks for your sharing. Your videos are useful & you are so beautiful 😊
Insightful! I’ll create a low energy plan as I learn Portuguese.
Thanks our doctor, you're the best.
Great learning skill.
Watching you makes me want to learn a new language.❤
I'm a Chinese learner, as well. I'm using music and series two aspects for my learn ing materials. Then, I'm looking for the course to strengthen the basic one.
Thank you for the another way to be fluent on it.

Dr. Izzy, may I ask how you came to learn your English? I really like the way you speak, it really connects with the audience and keeps them engaged, I'm trying to learn deeper what it is that you do so successfully that I might take something that I can implement myself, if you would kindly share that would be really lovely, thank you. :)
Nice video thanks🤘
I’ve been learning German and Japanese for two years. Haven’t gotten past B1 in both. I might have to create my learning path along your 5-step model. My weakest link is my lack of accountability buddies.
Starting to learn Japanese...again. 😅 With your tips and a new invigorated spirit, I will make it all the way this time!!
You got this! 💪
please can you do a video on how to focus while studying and like how to get work done
Thanks mate❤️
Hey Izzy, can you do a video (even a short one) in mandarin? As a fellow learner, would love to watch😄🏮🧧🀄️🐲
ILY izzy
You really touch my soul 💘💘💘
I am proudly say you are great and feel happy about your deep fan
Saved! I am going to revisit this next week. Being of mixed British/Nigerian heritage, I used to be able to speak my mother's tongue a little when I was younger. I've always had quite an ear and interesting in languages. However, having been through and worked in our school system, our culture and education doesn't necessarily emphasise the joy, importance and utility of learning other languages. I really want to pick my Korean back up and this was a big motivation boost!
Thank you, Izzy! You have a very brilliant knack of explaining things in a palatable way, and your diction is so lovely. It's actually quite soothing to listen to and learn simultaneously :D
Beautiful, motivational and detailed, on a psychological level, Izzy! I am curious, how you adapted yourself from China to UK, that is totally different than China, from too many aspects, you know which ones, for sure! Love it, either again, the right hand side! ❤🔥🙏
I see, yes! There is a difference then!
I just made a YT video about how I learned German (in German! Yay!) and literally the whooooole thing changed for me when I actually discovered my motivation. I went from being so overwhelmed and horrible at German to giving it my all and now I’m fluent 😊😊
What was your motivation?
l agree with you Dr.Izzy, l feel like my energy is low after returning doing full time job, l'll try your tip of low energy listening for target language's music, comedy, movies,etc...
Great topic to discuss here, dear teacher. Thanks so much for sharing. Congrats. 🙏 10:12
izzy you should do a video showing how you edit your videos on Davinci Resolve am trying to learn it on beginner level thank you keep up with the great work.
My entire plan for mandarin is low energy, It's only comprehensible input for now
It did work for english, using youtube for the past 10 years or so. It did also work for French (my mother tong ) technically, since that's pretty much how language is acquired
Izzy make more videos on Language learning😊
Hello good doctor, I can say with confidence, that I can almost agree with everything you had to say on youtube and probably in your personal life!
