My sides almost started hurting from laughter when I saw your sawzall, seeing a tool I've used in demolition work used for a model project is a crazy juxtaposition
I've never played the 40K table top game. I became fascinated with the lore more or less by accident on RUclips. Lately I've been checking out the way hardcore players buy, build and paint their 40K armies. For starters it is astonishing to me that $1400 only buys you a model kit. As a person who struggles to screw in a lightbulb and has never owned a tool the ability to build these models seems like witchcraft to me. The patience, the attention to detail that is required to build a playable army is fascinating to me and the expense is kind of mind boggling. Finally the painting is what I find most interesting. I simply could not do it with any reasonable degree of quality. My hands are the size of toilet seats and my ADHD precludes me from ever fully committing to playing the game. I would never in a million years have guessed that I would find this kind of content so entertaining.
Idea for the raised foot, if you’re planning on doing a resin pour to make it look like water underneath then you could make it look like water is pouring off the foot as you lift it, and use that to cover up the screw
Perhaps a tree trunk would be a good way to hide the Rod. Like the kind you see in images of the Somme. No top or branches just trunk up to a certain height
If you do another you may want to think about putting smaller bases for em, I did two just a little later then feet, makes it easier to fit on a table with other mini's
You need so much more attention. Your videos are the best warhammer videos of all out there. you go straight to the topic from the beginning and theres no useless information about something else. everything is just on point. I can imagine that you´re putting hard work into everything. I hope it gets paid of as deserved. Keep it up
This video here just may have given me inspiration to do a whole new style of modeling. Taking a model like this. generating a blueprint for said model using CAD or a freemium alternative. and then reproduce the entire thing from scratch by just using sheet metal and other metal components to make all of the parts. each individual panel will be a a piece cut, ground, bent, and attached. Just like making a real life miniature. It would take a LOT of time. but a person like me who has ADHD and has no problem hyper-focusing on a single task just may appreciate a healthy time sink.
Alright.... Your dedication, execution and happiness displayed while essentially being a day laborer for a hobby is infectious. Ima tackle my next kit and try to emulate your mentality. It can be daunting at times.
Suggestion: Roughen up spots with high grit sandpaper or a knife anywhere 2 parts meet that are going to be held together with resin or glue. Gives the material a little more surface area to grab and hold onto.
This was epic. You really knock it out of the park with your videos. It’s never just “I did this, then this, then this” you’re always telling us a story 🙌🏼
Somehow found this exactly 1 minute after being posted. Awesome. Also, I'd love to see you tackle the Leviathan Dreadnought one of these days. Awesome model.
an injured orc laying on the ground looking up at the hovering foot would've been an awesome way to hide the rod. Don't even know if it's possible but couldn't unsee it
Ok, so, i feel bad saying this, but i'm so glad you did this video so i don't have to experience it myself. Thank you though, for staying so positive throughout the whole process. I thnk a kill counter you can kinda update as you play games would be cool. Tanks, titans, and battalions lol. doing red Doves/birds in a firescape would be a hilarious twist on the whole peace ordeal.
am only a 11 and a half mins into this video but I HAVE to say this might be the best put together titan on the planet. this thing is going to look unreal. Edit: done with the video, this looks so cool the base is AMAZING I can not wait for when you paint it. just a small suggestion for the free hand part. maybe have a cheesy quote written on it, something like "burn baby burn" or "hot to the touch" something corny/cool like that that would feel really on brand for eons of battle etc. am unsure there just ones on the top of my head but am sure someone can think of the perfect one.
I’m 12 and Jesus I can’t imagine putting together something like this, I wouldn’t have the discipline or anything just wondering what army do you have and how much?
I am genuinely amazed that Games Workshop hasn't been destroyed as a company by the fans. Charging that price for a set that doesn't fit together, lacks a base, has so much wasted resin, etc is just criminal.
Pardon my ignorance as I haven't put together models before, but why is like a third of the mass of the parts just blocks attached to the actual pieces that you have to remove? "Resin gates", I think he called them? What's the purpose of that being there? I could understand if it was some small byproduct of the casting process that the company decided it would be cheaper to make the end user remove, but some of those look almost as bulky as the piece they're attached to. That's a lot of waste I would think?
it might be worth piling up some puttie and pressing his down foot into it to help show that the titan is heavy. Sitting on top of the mud without displacing any isnt an obvious detail, but it could add a bit more to it. Especially if the guardsmen are leaving tracks.
Oh! Doves holding a banner made out of a Burnout stripe. Maybe texture it like actual rubber on the road. That may be dumb but for some reason has me excited. lol
13:44- That is definitely a big boy!!! Don’t get me wrong! But did you say that “was the biggest” or is it “the 2nd biggest”??? Only reason I’m asking is because I saw picture that had a bunch knights like this…… but 1 towered over all! I would say (depending on how high the table is and how tall you are) it was about a foot taller than that! At least!! But it could have been a completely custom job!?!
Give him a purity seal you can actually read with a list of patrons as the names called in creation / list of dead for the patron and add a skull next to each name.
tip: magnetize the arms, then you can exchange them. If you buy the main body, you probably will get all weapons along with it( I did with my warhound, years ago). It was a bit terrifying for me when I started cleaning up the "flash"and extra plastic from the casting. a 1000 euros worth of resin, and here I am, attacking it with a saw.
I think it would be really funny if you had a dove carrying an olive branch that is actively on fire. Consumed by the hotrod flames. After all, what is more 40k then burning the concept of peace with the emperors holy flames?
Could always try a transparent threaded screw for the foot I'd you don't want anything underneath it. Just a thought. Awesome build either way! One day I too shall own a titan.
Fun fact! The Adeptus Mechanicus has some special units called Secutarii that are the literal honor guard of the titans. I found out about them recently, they’re super cool looking and a fun lore tidbit
Lovely model. I see the real thing every once in a while just stomping around fields. They don't have much use anymore but they keep em up and running just in case. They are mostly used for tearing down condemned houses and buildings.
My newest guard army is my absolute favorite. I lightly kitbashed a rhino for them because its based on an army from WW1 so i wanted a blocky ass tank for it. Im really happy with how its turning out. I just need a shit ton more shock troops, more tanks, some scions, and sentinels.
I love how we consistently see videos like this, where someone takes a model that costs more than a grand and has to fix it just to build it, yet we still have Resin simps all over this hobby.
Yeah, I feel like anyone who actually buys titans and isn't a content creator is just seriously masochistic. FW are quite literally spitting in the face of anyone willing to spend that much cash on their only real reason to exist.
probbably done and over with, but suggestions for hiding the bolt in the lifting foot, falling dirt and debris from the underside of the foot or have it stepping over a small fortification
I think a destroyed vehicle with the smoke hiding the bolt or some sort of vegetation would be the smartest idea. If you put the foot on something like a building or something solid, it will look like it's standing on it awkwardly instead of marching IMO. Considering the base, I'd go with the first one. Maybe a Leman Russ or something similar.
As I can't find something on my own in this regard: can you please elaborate on the glue/resin mix that you created, to have the extra strong bond? How does that work specifically? What kind of glue and resin do you use for that?
man-it's a HARDCORE 15 year old who can manage everything i've just watched you do. at that age, i never even painted my space wolves, i was so intimidated!
This is an awesome video, although I did have to laugh when you drilled the Titan like crazy to try and lower the weight then chose “oak” (one of the heaviest woods) as a base.
This is such an entertaining video and I don't know if Jay is trying to be hilarious or just naturally is that way but I was chuckling the whole way through. Plus dude has such a positive vibe, all the time, it's just great. "What did I expect for 1400 bucks?" - classic
I spent 35.00 on resin and 3D printed one and yes it was a exact scan of one. Even hollowed it was still weighty. Even if you spent 400.00 on a printer and 40.00 into resin that leaves a big savings.
I know it’s 8 months old but when you mentioned you had to hide the foot rod my first thought was paint a mini to look fresh crushed and stick him in between
you're a really cool guy. It's really fun to watch you build and design your models with enthusiasm. you could be a really good teacher. keep it up and thank you for your videos
Great build! You really went all the way on making it sturdy with the threaded rods and pins. Looking great! :) I can't help but think that if Bandai made a kit for a GW Titan it would be all poseable with moving pistons, replaceable options for weapons and everything would snap fit without glue. It could even be pre-designed to fit an LED kit. GW really should collaborate for that now that they already made Space Marine action figures and are part of the IP. Using Bandai just for completed action figures which aren't the thing they do best is a bit of a waste really. Or why not let Joytoy make action figs that are Titans in tabletop scale, then sell resin add-ons for more detail for those.
Geometry hack - you can trace an oval by putting two pegs in your base alinged along the long axis of the oval, then make a loop of string around them that is significantly bigger than the distance between the pegs. Put a pen in the loop of string and pull the string tight, trace a loop, keeping the string tight. If there two pins are right next to each other then there oval will be a circle, the further apart they are, the longer and thinner the oval will be. Does that make sense? Of not, you can look it up.
An interesting idea for a freehand would be a severed Titanicus symbol on the shoulder/ face to symbolize the severing of the Titan legions in the Heresy.
Should have put the downed Sentinel between the leg lifted up and the base to hide the screw, making it seem like the Titan is about to crush the Sentinel and the poor wounded guardsmen underneath, not out of malice but simply because the Titan is so huge it didn't even see him. Nice little Grimdark detail!
Damn, man. Kudos for getting your dream model and giving it the professional workover. I've only done a couple of the smaller ones like a Hierodule. Even then I put in less work than was probably warranted. Be cool to have an eagle gripping a dove in its talon. That’s my tattoo idea but would be very cool on your titan too. Great work dude! I love how everyone else’s titan projects are years and you just smash out the building faze in 1 video!!
This suggestion is badass
Hey Jay, Just a heads up. Lestoil has pine oil in it and that may prevent paint from sticking properly. I would wash that again with a degreaser before painting if you haven't already.
I never thought Id see the day when power tools were needed to build a 40k model. This is it. Ive seen everything. Looks killer!
This really make me appreciate Bandai and Kotobukia models.
The whole time I was watching this I was just absolutely shocked at all the effort you gotta put in for a kit thats over a grand and those instructions looked absolutely god awful. Gunpla builders rly do have it good
@@XxCalypsoxX616 They respect their hobbyists.
@@XxCalypsoxX616thinking the same thing but I come from the military aircraft tank building world…. Holy hell the extra steps are insane. Never made me appreciate Tamiya so much…..
Also I am marveling at this gentleman’s skill and creativity…… to put it simply the dude has some serious skills……
I would consider myself a pretty invested hobbyist. This however, has scared me away from anything at all this size! The amount of work, well done man!
Amen, I hate forgeworld stuff, if i spend the insane money that they cost, i want a cleaned up model ready to assemble.
I've never even played Warhammer but I couldn't stop watching this. Awesome building skills and model.
Watching this really makes me understand why midwinter mini’s basically screwed on every part of his warlord Titan and then further reinforced it. Imagine how amazing these models could be if remade with modern engineering and techniques
I was so glad to see lestoil. About 25 year ago we couldnt find it anymore. My mom found 1 last place and ought all they had. That lasted for more than a decade - but we couldnt find more. We thought it was gone.
Meow
Perhaps a tree trunk would be a good way to hide the Rod. Like the kind you see in images of the Somme. No top or branches just trunk up to a certain height
Possibly the best titan modelling video I've seen... Thanks for respecting the time of your audience and not stringing this out to umpteen episodes.
8:00 what a beautiful piece of art
Suggestion: Roughen up spots with high grit sandpaper or a knife anywhere 2 parts meet that are going to be held together with resin or glue. Gives the material a little more surface area to grab and hold onto.
This was epic. You really knock it out of the park with your videos. It’s never just “I did this, then this, then this” you’re always telling us a story 🙌🏼
the fact the weight saving holes on the RL on his head arent even, matching or all drilled out... RUINS MY DAY
Somehow found this exactly 1 minute after being posted. Awesome.
Also, I'd love to see you tackle the Leviathan Dreadnought one of these days. Awesome model.
an injured orc laying on the ground looking up at the hovering foot would've been an awesome way to hide the rod. Don't even know if it's possible but couldn't unsee it
The guardsmen on the base is brilliant! Really puts it into perspective the sheer enormity of the Titan in scale with the minis.
Dude that sound of the resin gate being thrown made me spit out my coffee. Would love to get the chaos version of this one
I admire your courage doing all this on your own! Personally I wouldn't have the discipline, the patience and or the talent to do it. Kudos to you!
Ridiculous price. Loved seeing your satisfaction and pride as your progressed.
8:33 In part two I spend 4 hours getting the sawdust off my books and collectables on the shelf behind me. Can’t believe you did that inside
When’s someone making a titan out of just resin gates
I am genuinely amazed that Games Workshop hasn't been destroyed as a company by the fans. Charging that price for a set that doesn't fit together, lacks a base, has so much wasted resin, etc is just criminal.
Average RUclipsr: 50 videos over a year to build.
Jay the Omnesiah: One video in a week on top of his other videos.
Sick, truly my favorite miniature hobby channel
it might be worth piling up some puttie and pressing his down foot into it to help show that the titan is heavy. Sitting on top of the mud without displacing any isnt an obvious detail, but it could add a bit more to it. Especially if the guardsmen are leaving tracks.
Bro this man is always so happy and positive. A great vibe love to see it
Having significant battle damage would be cool, like even make mini cracks and damage with a plated welded/bolted on over the damage as field repairs
This video took me from 500% sure I don't want to do a titan to around 1000% sure that I don't want to do a titan.
3:10 NEVER hold like that. If that drillbit goes through your hand is f-ed... use clamps and or a vice. this is just begging for the emergency room.
"I'm gonna do it all in one day"
Damn, Jay, I actually believed you for a second.
Oh! Doves holding a banner made out of a Burnout stripe. Maybe texture it like actual rubber on the road. That may be dumb but for some reason has me excited. lol
This really puts into perspective how resin is not good for large miniatures as it’s way too heavy and extremely expensive
Ooh that's good !!! And it could have a quote under like "your peace is death" or something like that
I just got the Warlord Titan. I’m scared to build it but after seeing this video I am not as scared as before. Thanks for sharing.
Ah yes the warhammer experience of close up shots of uncut nails
Could always try a transparent threaded screw for the foot I'd you don't want anything underneath it. Just a thought. Awesome build either way! One day I too shall own a titan.
GW whales be like- it's worth paying extra for a model developed with prehistoric tech
Fun fact! The Adeptus Mechanicus has some special units called Secutarii that are the literal honor guard of the titans. I found out about them recently, they’re super cool looking and a fun lore tidbit
That mask in not sufficient when dealing with resin . I'm warning you , you will have health issue .
A bit of trial and error with the two pins, some string, and a pencil ellipse technique could help you get a really nice ellipse.
8:31 Did anyone else get flashbacks to the Gungan Army video and the family sign lol
13:00 There was a real opportunity for a "the planet broke before the guard did" joke here.
Even if you spent 400.00 on a printer and 40.00 into resin that leaves a big savings.
my olny suggestion is doing the torso to the hips before final attachment to legs as you get a lot of movement from the hips placement
I know it’s 8 months old but when you mentioned you had to hide the foot rod my first thought was paint a mini to look fresh crushed and stick him in between
I built and painted my first Knight model last week. It took several hours a day over a week, and I couldn't imagine building this damn thing.
you're a really cool guy. It's really fun to watch you build and design your models with enthusiasm. you could be a really good teacher. keep it up and thank you for your videos
Great build! You really went all the way on making it sturdy with the threaded rods and pins. Looking great! :)
I can't help but think that if Bandai made a kit for a GW Titan it would be all poseable with moving pistons, replaceable options for weapons and everything would snap fit without glue.
Got 'em used because there was no way I was paying GeeDubs hundreds of dollars for a product whose quality is comparable to dollar store toys.
