    I highly, highly, highly recommend covering up that massive screw. My eye goes to that instantly, and for Golden Demon they are not going to overlook that. Maybe covering it in a dark ruddy resin mixture to further sell the water effect, or putting a piece of terrain in there and blending it into the water?

    I spent 6 months painting an Albion Truthsayer with a brush that had pretty much 5 hairs. That was a long, long time ago and even though I was really happy with it at the time it did bugger all to help my painting speed. Nice looking Titan mate, I appreciate the fact you paint armies really cleanly. I'm still trying to get my confidence up with just finishing the damned models in the first place.

      I grew up on a small island and couldn't really find anyone else who had the hobby so I learned mostly by myself.
      To say I learned the wrong thing so far as tools and the time it takes to paint things is an understatement! I've learned vastly more since then thankfully and that self-inflicted silliness ended long ago.

  • @RandomIdiotGS
    @RandomIdiotGS 9 месяцев назад +15

    Dude, this type of art is PHENOMENAL. You literally went all out on this one and the details are amazing. Like, I would expect this to be amongst the top contenders at Golden Demon just for how much effort you put into it and it has paid off STUNNINGLY.
    But, it reminds me of a this marble-/ceramic-like Titan model some guy made some years ago that was rejected as an entry by Golden Demon. The painting quality looked a lower level than your Titan, but he did a lot of freehand and generally it seemed like it should at the very least make it ito the event. But nope, rejected entry. What I'm saying is... I love your work and this looks INCREDIBLE... but with Golden Demon it's kind of like... waiting to get dropped over "a brightly coloured skink". GD has this thing of just looking at imperfections and disregarding all other outstanding effort over it because it isn't the cleanest paint job.
    In your case... I think SOME of these points might trigger GD's odd way of rating models:
    - The "rusty" turquoise might just be a little too blue/too bright instead of slightly more blended in
    - The whole laser/plasma drybrushing around his eyes might trigger them due to it being a "simple" effect
    - On one of the right tubes you can see a bit of a white line that runs across it, I think there might be another tiny blemish or two that give the model more character but can be a reason to get voted out early
    - They might judge the screw being too easily visible under his left foot
    - And there's too many difficult colours for their brain to process and it's not a skink, so yeah xD
    No, but I think it's awesome, probably the best Titan paint job I've ever seen. You should send it in to see how far you get, but I know how GD judges can just look for the simple things to rate.

  • @stephenwitham
    @stephenwitham 9 месяцев назад +15

    You've got to fix the bolt that's attaching the foot to the base, Jay. Golden Daemon won't like it. That right there could very well be what causes you to NOT get a finalist pin.

  • @nathanguice2417
    @nathanguice2417 9 месяцев назад +25

    Friendly tip for those "quick" epoxies: The time listed is an estimated WORKING time, not a CURING time. It generally means that, for example, a 5 minute epoxy, is that you have roughly 5 minutes to work with it as a smooth glue-like consistency before the curing process kicks in and it starts getting goopy and spider-webbing. It still takes hours for it to fully cure to full strength.

    • @axtel3468
      @axtel3468 6 месяцев назад +2

    little tip: for glue or epoxy on flat surfaces, you absolutely have to scratch the surfaces on both side, for example with a hobby knife, so you have a larger surface area to adhere to.
    Use an X shape scraping pattern and be amazed how well anything will adhere ;-)
