    Thanks so so much for your detailed reaction, I’m so honored!! I made it my goal to display both my passion for cinematography and my musical ability in this video, and I’m glad you acknowledged that! The malletSTATION has a really nice touch sensitivity that gives you a better playing experience :) About the phone thing, I recorded the audio that you hear in the video along with the indoor shots, and was listening back to that audio on my phone through AirPods when I did the outdoor part. Found out while editing that I had moved it to the other end of the instrument in between shots, but I went with it, realizing how easy it is to make continuity mistakes, so definitely something I’m working on :) But overall, really glad that you enjoyed my performance!! ACSASTS remains one of my all-time favorites in the marimba literature world.

      You have great video skills!! And ahhh thank you for explaining the phone and airpods haha, it's a very well made video regardless of continuity 🤭

    Hey Adam. Tallak here from the first video. I watched the video and wanted to add some information about the mallets, because they are really ment for concert hall playing, and the room just make them boom a lot, even when i play softly with the soft ones, even though you're completely right: the yellow and red ones are way to hard for this piece. They are also very heavy mallets, so they have a lot of momentum when I hit. I don't know how visible it is in the video, but the straining is partly due to me trying to hold back on the mallets so they don't hit even harder. The mallets used in the video are the ERHO Leander Kaiser 3/w, 4/w, and 5/w (though my two 3/w's (the red ones) were so used at the time, I had to place them above the 4/w (orange))

    Dude, your timing is perfect! I just bought a Malletstation a couple weeks ago to practice with at home while I'm in university, so I've been watching a bunch of videos on it. I'm planning on writing on some cool ensemble pieces using it for some different textures and synth layers, maybe someday I'll have something to send in for the show!

    I don't know it anybody wants to confirm, but it looked like the malletstation was never plugged in. Was still a great video, but I think he recorded himself playing before he turned on the camera.

    • @brendenwilliams6000
      @brendenwilliams6000 3 года назад +1

      Yeah it's USB bus powered, and he didn't have anything plugged in. The video and audio are matched to such a high degree that he probably could've pulled it off live, but I get it in terms of editing and filming - it's easier to put it to a recorded track.

      Yeah it was definitely lip synced hahaha but I believed it 🤣

      @@AdamTanPercussion the only thing I'm wary about with videos like this is that it could be something where he played the piece, edited the midi recording to make it "perfect" and then did the video part of it after. I'm not saying he did that, and even if it did happen, the music was well worth the effort. Good music is good music. I just don't want it to be construed as a live performance if it in fact was altered during the editing process.

      Yep! Pre-recording is pretty efficient sometimes, and not something you can do when recording an acoustic instrument :)

    that mallet station video doesn't have any live audio. The audio was edited in with the video.

    Another great masterclass! It would be interesting to know what marimba sample library was used for the mallet station solo. It was generally very believable, but there were a few sections where the round robins in the library were perceptible.

    Have you done as thorough an analysis of the MalletKAT (Grand or Pro)? As someone who is just starting out, I am very seriously thinking of getting a MalletKAT as a 'starter,' something that will allow me to practice at home on both Marimba and vibes technique, to get up and running... Thoughts?

    • @MatthewValenzuela
      @MatthewValenzuela 3 года назад

      MalletKAT requires a bit of equipment and technical know-how with the software (and a library to power it) in addition to the instrument that may not make it the best choice as a 'starter' instrument. malletSTATION is plug and play, which may prove to be more versatile here for your situation (based on your comments alone).

    Just got a malletstation and sent it back. Some of the bars don’t work at all. This is despite firmware updates and using the editing software. Terrible quality.

    Think those mallets in the first video is Martin Grubinger mallets

    • @davidstecher7885
      @davidstecher7885 3 года назад +1

      Yes Martin Grubinger uses these very often but they are actually from an austrian mallet maker called Ernst Hosner. I‘m pretty sure these are from the Pro V series and they project very well in big halls.
