Can a Fanny Pack Be "Tactical"? (Vertx SOCP Review)

- The SOCP Tactical Fanny Pack from Vertx is an interesting piece of kit designed for plain clothes professionals in law enforcement, military, security or private investigations. One of the advantages of off body carry is the ability to bring more equipment then is typically concealable on-body.

Almost perfect for motorcycle. Most riding gear is horrible for concealed carry so this is a good options.

This is exactly why I'm researching carry bags dude. Don't want open carry, and can't appendix and be comfy in a sport riding position
@@python2400 I went with the 5.11 utility skypack it’s more of a dedicated chest pack and has a strechy outer pocket that’s good for gloves
I too have this pack and one comment I would make about the phone pouch is this. If you have bluetooth ear buds or headphones, take them with you when carrying your phone in this pouch. I learned the hard way that it's a pain trying to get your phone out of there to answer a phone call. From now on I make sure that I have some bluetooth ear buds with me when using this pack. Otherwise, I like the pack a lot.
Currently working in Europe, so it blends in well there (I sling, but fanny pack works too). Fits all the EDC and day to day life support stuff. I added some retention bands to be able to sing a bottle or hang a jacket on the day to day trips.
THAT PHONE PART that is so cool, I have never thought of how a sling could do that.
I attached a Blue Force Gear admin panel (it has built in elastic mag pockets) inside of a Mystery Ranch Hip Monkey bag to better organize my edc. Also works well as a ersatz chest rig.
For anyone worried about size you can fit a Hk mark 23 in there
I love mine, the only gripe is the phone pocket is kinda gimmicky and I wish it had a better mounting point so it’s a bit more comfortable as a sling. As of now it’s still the best I’ve used
That’s a very nice and thoughtful fanny pack actually. I’m definitely considering giving it a try. Thanks for the review!
Great review. Very informative and concise.
Love to see a direct comparison to the SOE gear FUPA.
SOE#1
Fupa is a giant trash bag on your chest. No comparison.
SOE is outdated equipment
@@2006MercuryUse Fupa everyday
@@Shieldelyeah SOE outdated gear that is still used by good guys killing bad guys.
I wear one of these for gym carry, been wearing it for like 9 months now at the very least, and I'm learning new stuff about this I didn't even know. The armor plating, the pouch in the back, the pouch for sliding in the armor plate, the little pockets on the side
But otherwise I do a lot of what you've mentioned, such as removing that mesh liner in the gun pouch. For my gun I had a spare kydex holster so I just removed the belt clip and stuck some hook velcro onto it.
For the phone pouch I've found it to be the most useless feature for me. I can't easily unlock my phone since my phone still uses fingerprint unlock. Also the material is kind of frictiony-adhesivy, if that makes sense. My phone doesn't slide right in I have to kind of manipulate it into the pouch. I just opt to carry it in my pocket instead.
I'd like one but I make the one I have work, it was ridiculously expensive at a store 25 years ago and marked donw to $20 clearance. After I seen the soe one I added another strap to it and customized it some. Only been using it about a year now lol.
This comment is 65% incomprehensible. "After I seen". I done seent it too, hoss.
I usually carry appendix, but I use this bag everyday by putting my carry gun in the bag if I’m going to the gym, if I’m home and not having to carry inside the waistband, or as a IFAK that I bring everywhere.
I’m able to carry medical, admin, extra mag, and a velcro backed kydex holster.
It also acts as a bedside “kit” since I’ll have all the mentioned items at a moments notice.
Not sure if the first patch had some lemons, but my first SOCP had tearing in the corner within a couple months of using. Luckily, Vertx replaced it and I’ve been using it daily for the past year and half. Good product overall
Its All about training with what you carry. I love these styles and have one when with kids and dogs.
Fits all I need and some more.
Plus add cargo pants and now you are a nightmare for anyone trying to search you).
My wife and I both carry this pretty often. We wear it as a sling bag on the front vs as a fanny pack. She primarily carries it when she's doing the grocery shopping by herself with our toddler. We DO have the Premier Body Armor insert in the back just as a little bit of protection for center mass, and I do actually like the rigidity it adds. We rarely use it for off-body carry, so that portion typically has our medical stuff, and the other pocket will have regular essentials like wallet, chapstick, keys, feminine stuff, oc spray, etc. Those little side wing pockets vary depending on what we have going on, but it's usually like a handcuff key on one side and a small bottle of hand sanitizer on the other. But again that changes on which one of us is carrying it and what we're doing. That knife pocket area on the back is where I usually have handcuffs and reflective VisiBlue police beanie for identification purposes. For the phone pocket up front, it just barely fits my Google Pixel 8 with a hard case, so usually don't use it for that. That's usually where I have my backup battery bank for our phones. The only time I use the phone portion for my phone is for Facebook marketplace lol. We've been getting rid of a bunch of stuff on there, so when I meet up with a random person in public to sell something I have my phone in there with the flap tucked in recording our entire interaction. It's not necessarily common in my area, but definitely not unheard of for those meetups to turn into a robbery attempt. Overall we love the bag! Ours definitely didn't come with the holster retention piece though 😢 lol. Really enjoy your channel man!
Hey buckaroo, I wouldn't be caught dead with a cuff key and a legal concealed gun. It will NOT look good if brought up in front of a jury.
I was a locksmith, carried picks daily, ditto a gun. No longer a locksmith, picks stay available, but not on body as a result. Last thing I want is additional incrimination. Also be wary of being TOO descriptive of your loadout. For some reason I will never forget Sootch00 getting totally raided by burglars and losing a ton of guns. I feel like some things are better... carefully descried as a result.
@@RolandsDad it'll look just fine for me as handcuffs, a handcuff key, and police beanie for identification purposes (mentioned further down in my comment) are all part of my employment. I do appreciate your concern though.
Use this pack in nearly the exact same way. Do have the SOCP Dagger. It is a nice little pack, but a tight fit with a Glock 19. Nice review of a like you said a niche pack/loadout.
I just use a jansport and it works fine for 1/3 of the cost.
After cutting off the front phone pouch and removed the extra med pouch I think I created a great edc pack. Just wish the straps were removable.
Great review. Cover all the bases 💯👍🇺🇸
I think the only thing i think they could do better with this is the attachment points. I feel if they made it so that there where attachment points for the "belt" on the top and the sides would make it so that it could be used with a chest hiking style harness and would be nice for riding on a bike/ motorcycle.
SOE FUPA is multi purpose by using different mag cards and inserts for individual needs. G19 spare mag flashlight and c-a-t. KISS
It's the most uncomfortable waist pack to sling across the body. Mostly because of how the straps and loops are not great together. They need to fix that specific ergo.
I like that thing. Wouldn't this support a small pistol?
We need an updated edc video soon !
Where did you get the mag holder? I’ve been looking and can’t find one!
Let's goooo ❤
Dang, wish I had seen this yesterday!
makes me want to update my long walk fanny!
only thing I dont like is the front phone flip down, if theyd just give another thin profile pouch area thatd have been better imo. why I went with a diff fanny
if you are at Academy or Cabelas or Bass Pro, etc. and you are ammo shopping and see someone else with a fanny pack I just assume theirs has the same thing as mine in it.
Will it hold a SIG P365 - Legion?
Hello prepmedic, what bag do you edc with since you mentioned that you don’t use this bag?
Hey man! So i have a question about this. I see vertx has their rapid access tabs. I also see this bag has two loops on the outside flap of the ccw compartment. Instead of taking thw time pulling the zippers to open the bag, can you loop a rapid access tab on one of those fabric loops to just pull the zippers apart for a more fluid and swift access? TIA for advice!
Bluetooth shutter button would work for snapping pics
Are you selling any more of the knives?
I really wanted that knife
Will a Glock 20 fit inside?
Hello, can I put it in the washing machine and do you have any advice and instructions for washing, such as the temperature, etc.?
You spiled something on it, didn't you...
Will a Taurus TX22 T.O.R.O GEN 2 Optic Ready Pistol fit?
No quick release strap?
You can record anywhere in public without anyones consent at all. 99 percent of the time you’re going to be in public if you need it anyway. Besides that…the average guy isn’t going to need to use this unless shit has hit the fan and if that’s the case breaking a privacy law would be the least of our worries.
You mentioned not being able to carry in athletics:
That’s where gear like the PHLster enigma or Hunter Constantine IWB Belt comes into play.
DO NOT USE BELLY BANDS!!! Things like BravoBelts are absolutely NO GO’s!!!
New intro sequence?
Nope. Same as it always was…
…
…
How would fill this for ccw and medical?
I have one in all black.
do you have reference of knife PLZ?
how do you order that in the philippines??
What kind of IWB holster is that?
What brand holster was he using?
your watch is 51mm or 47mm?
Idk... anytime i see a guy with a fanny pack they are classified as supremely suspect😂
Lose that mentality. 9.9/10 somebody putting this much effort into edc is like-minded and on your side.
What product is this? The “Bap Strap?”
The SOCP….its in the title…
@@Shieldel Sorry I thought it would timestamp my question. I was asking about the little strap for magazines.
@@urbanosity OHHHHH OHHHH My bad friend! That’s another Vertx product I think it’s called something wrap. It’s from their tactigami accessory line. It’s essentially a Vertx mag pouch. I think one comes with bag
If the point is to blend in, why can’t the manufacturers of these off body carry packs make the outer material out of other colors. I want to fit in with hippies, not the tactical wear dagger-shank knife guys.
Obviously green and desert goes so well with any professional wear…….

Awesome review, can you do a review on the European Medics Lazarus Medic Pack?
Bluetooth shutter button in pocket
Helle someone give me the height Dimension in cm please?
My asp baton is 17.5cm
Here from New jersey, anytime i see someone with a fanny pack on, i hard assume that person is carrying, depending the of the pack.
True in some areas but hit the west coast or any fashion forward metropolitan areas and the man purse is everywhere 😂
This will sound weird, but the reason you may not pick out the LEO/Military/Medic despite looking, is you're looking for obvious things, not the non obvious things based on your background.
Bro looks like a cop!
I mean I was one for a bit so 🤷♂️ if the shoe fits…
"Can a fannypack be tactical?", I guess, but not tacticool.😎
Great pack except for that gimmick phone pouch. It truly is useless.
Dude….Fanny packs SCREAM gun….full stop.
In this community, sure. In the wider world, not really.
@ in this world of bad actors in which there are many, your surprise of concealment is gone. Fanny packers are walking bullseyes 🎯. I prefer to travel light and very conceal discreetly. No need to broadcast.
Id rather not have sock pee but thanks.
