I hadn’t sung folk ballads in over a decade and the memorized lyrics were slowly slipping. Then in spec I picked up his Best of CD at a music festival in. Colorado, After the opening blast of that incredible voice I was back in my native Scotland . I’ll warm up my voice everyday with portlaoise jail or last of the traveling people. He was the real deal in every sense of the word. From Belfast to Wexford from Clare to Tralee a town with a pub is a living for me, I haven’t a home but by God I am free, I’m the last of the traveling people. Magician with words. A true legend. R.I.P The Pecker Dunne.
The likes of Pecker doesn't come around very often. . It's a kind of a soul that can't be taught. . It's something that comes from deep within. . And so, for me, The Pecker Dunne was one of a kind. .. God Bless
There is no equivalent of this man to take his place if he leaves us. A stunning individualism and pure delivery, which make him a national Irish treasure alongside the Tara broach. I love his songs. I loved seeing him playing tunes before the big matches. Thanks Pecker.

I remember back in the '80s, my band played in a concert in Skibbereen and "backed" the Pecker who was a special guest -we were young guys but we were country lads and knew all his material - he was a legend back then. He was very down to earth and friendly -a sound character.
What a wonderful character! What a wonderful entertainer! What a wonderful Irishman ! The great Paddy (Pecker) Dunne ,there'll never be another - Eirinn gu Brath

Hello Pecker Dunne. I like it I really do. Me being a Dub, I like you have my own ideas about progressive Irish Music. I hope you like RIVER LIFFEY DUBLIN CITY. Perhaps you might comment on EMERALD GREEN SAPPHIRE BLUE. They say Dubliners are all Spacers so I thought to myself Oh, is that where we all come from. I Wish you and yours The Very Best for the future. BRI - DAR
The comments by Michael at the start of the video aren't entirely true, Pecker Dunne wasn't a Show person he was an Irish Traveller his mother may have been a show person as he said, but that doesn't make him one, This video at the time was clearly to get the settled community to accept Pecker as their own and not to associate him with the rest of the "itenerants" , as for him having Romany blood well that would make sense if his mother worked in a circus but you would have to hold that story with a pinch of salt, Rest in peace Pecker Dunne
I remember the Pecker one afternoon playing & singing outside Durty Nelly's Pub...A coach load of elderly American Tourists arrived..Out came all the cameras as they sat in the bus and pointed at Pecker..Funny I remember Pecker shouting at the driver.."Reverse them in...Reverse them in"…I also remember him singing at a party I was at a long time ago..Great man...
@@clarebannerman I never met him myself and I would love to have met him, He's a true great of Ireland and I think he will be fondly remembered even more as time goes on

My Mum was a midwife...and I remember her going into the horse drawn caravans/tents to deliver their babies...Afterwards (a few days later) she used to invite the Mother & baby into our home for tea and a chat...That was over 60 years ago...The nicest folks I ever met...
