The flagellation was real. The band had a bottle of vodka together before and then shot the scene.
For the lyrics Till uses the Brothers Grimm and the fairy tale Snow White and Rose Red and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe with Heiderößlein.

Engel is from the second album,Sehensucht. Rosenrot is from the Rosenrot album which is the one with the shop trapped in ice on the cover. The self-flagellation in the video was actually real. They were taught his to do it correctly, drank lots of vodka and pretty much went for it under the direction of Zoran Bihac who wanted them to ship themselves harder! Bihac directed a few Rammstein videos and, as I recall, all of the official Lindemann videos.

In the making of for this video, the director specifically mentions that Till's character and the girl's interactions are all from his point of view and in his head. So their relationship is not real.

@@kre_dopeprod.3766 because he did killed her parents, in his (sick) mind they are obstacles to their relantionship, but in the true she have nothing with him, she is innocent. You can see something is wrong with him because the friends are concerned seeing him talking with her.
Без ее обещания свящннник бы не пошел на такое тяжелое преступление. Можно предстваить, что он сделал это в бреду приняв сон с розой за знамение, но это слабая мотивация) по какой то причине в клипе они именно священнослужители. Думаете она сохранила невинность за счет него или первая брачная ночь произошла с ее мужем ? Я думаю он пожертвовал вечностью ради того чтобы быть ее первым мужчиной.
@@kre_dopeprod.3766 I understand your point, but the director Zoran said the rose scene is only in his imagination and they didn't had anything, he became obsessed with her and because this he attacked her parents. As I said in a other comment in this video, you can use the book "Lolita" as reference, the man saw the girl corresponding him and seduzing him and in the end betraying him by running away but it was only in his head and not the "reality", like in the Rosenrot, Till's character see the village girl reaction to the murder as a betray to him because in his mind she incited him to commit the crime, but she didn't, that's only his imagination.

The making to this song is awesome and the guys go pritty hard out with the whips. They are actually pritty amazing actor's they really know how to tell a story with their acting.

Yea that is them doing all the flagellation to themselves. The six of them shared a bottle of vodka if I remember correctly and then did the scene. They were pretty bloody afterwards.

One thing to have in mind in this kind of Rammstein video is Till mostly assume the "villan" character, you can compare this one with the book "Lolita", the facts are no trustfull because it is presented by the eye of the perpertrator, Zoran (the director of this and other videos) said in the making off that the relationship with the girl only happened in Till's character mind. I would love to see your reaction to Mein Teil, it's also directed by Zoran, and have two versions with different editions.
