This was really helpful! My Dr didn't even make me do anything to test for the cause of my knee pain, they just asked questions. I still have pain months later, this gives me the confidence to go back & suggest this diagnosis.
Brad came up with a good one in another video about Meniscus Tear. When figuring out which direction to rotate your hands in that position where you lift your foot up onto a chair to bend your knee, (6:27 in this video) he said that you turn your hands in the direction of the big toe. Works for both legs and is easy to remember for me.

I had surgery on my right knee for a medial and lateral meniscus tear. I'm 40 now, but the first time I tore it was when I was 17. I was told then, that surgery wouldn't help me very much and my father decided not to let me get the surgery. I've had problems with my knee ever since. When I ran, my knee would swell up for a week. (I was in the Navy too) and whenever I went to see a doctor, they'd tell me to put some ice on it and rest it. A few years ago, I hyper-extended my knee and the pain was just as bad as I remember at 17. Again, I was told to ice it and maybe there was a tear, but ... the doctor's never seemed concerned. Last summer, it twisted so bad I went to the ER, I couldn't walk for several days and was finally sent to get an MRI. The orthopedic surgeon gave me cortisone shots before my surgery. (Those were like liquid magic!) After the surgery, he told me that there was also significant cartilage damage, that he had to smooth and clean it out. He also said the surgery on the meniscus wouldn't help with the arthritis. He actually told me, if I was older, he'd recommend just replacing the knee. I guess, I want to know, if I had had the surgery when I was 17, would I have avoided all those years of damage and prevented the pain and arthritis that I'm experiencing now? PS... That last one... literally made my spine tingle.

I will be 62 in June, I very much enjoyed watching the videos on Osteoarthritis Knee Pain. Both of my knees are affected and I do wear unloader knee braces on both knees. The right knee is by far, worse. I am told I need to have a knee replacement when I am 65. I am using as many T4's as I need, but do not get any relief. I am also told that I must loose weight. What no one seems to know the answer to, is what if my knees become worse, and I continue to have swelling? I also have a torn meniscus and a baker's cyst. Keep up the awesome videos!! You are both ver knowledgeable, professional, neat, and explain, in detail.
I've had knee pain for years. I'm 28 and I do martial arts, the knee pain doesn't bother me as much when I'm exercising, and it tends to come and go but when it does come, it tends to linger for a day or maybe a few days. So when I do my exercises, I discovered that my knee will eventually pop and when it does I notice that the knee hurts less. You mentioned things that made me wonder what you'd think of this. Will watch all of your videos about knees because knee pain stinks, and I don't like it.
Hi I hurt my knee 12 days ago and I am still having trouble walking. How long should I wait until I need to go see a orthopedic surgeon? No pain in my bone. No breaks in the leg and I'm stable. Just can't walk
The counterclockwise twisting and bending really helped to loosen my knee up. I have rheumatoid arthritis as well as meniscus damage from an old accident....so I destroyed my knees trying to do Pilates last week. 😅

Thank you so much for this video! I want to share a quick story: I live in Illinois and I played college basketball back in 2015-2016. I ended up having a injury in practice, where I felt my knee pop but continued to play because the pain wasn’t fully there so I didn’t think much of it! After practice, up until this very day, my knee would lock up and I would feel something rolling around the front of my knee cap. I’ve had 2 mri’s, nothing found but fluid around my knee . I’ve made multiple doctors appointments and I keep getting the same result, going home with a knee that would lock-up after the smallest activities or no activity at all! This video is the exact same way that I need to explain to my doctor whenever I make an appointment lol! Could I’ve been possibly causing more damage for not having been treating it for this long? Thanks for the video!
very interesting and helpful. Just a couple suggestions: in some videos it's hard to hear you -- not this one-- esp if you speak turned away; black trousers make it hard to differentiate one leg from the other, could you wear gray maybe; could dispense with the formal look too and the black funeral shoes
What do you do if you only have public healthcare options and you are on a waiting list. I live in Canada and we can't see a doctor when we want to. In Japan and the U.S. the wait times are much less.
Thanks so much for the information. It seems like my left knee only feels uncomfortable when I do the figure 4 stretch. When I say uncomfortable, this means it feels tender. I've been stretching out more and I have noticed less pain. Everything else, I can do without any pain. I workout regularly and squat somewhat heavy, but not extreme. Should I see a doctor? Will this heal on its own. Any advice will be extremely appreciated guys and great job on your RUclips channel. Very educational
Heyo guys, cheers for your groovy videos :-) 20 years ago, I had a full tear of the PCL caused by a skiing accident. After recovery, I was able to resume a normal active lifestyle. 5 weeks ago, I slid forward on artificial turf playing soccer and hurt my left knee when trying to cut to the right and backwards. Instead, my foot slid forward on the artificial turf and the knee buckled with the leg in an extended position. It felt like there was a bulge on the back of my knee. I was able to bike home with minimal pain and went to sleep - there was no swelling. In the morning, there was swelling, limited range of motion and tenderness on both the inner and outer sides. I could still put some pressure on the leg and 2 weeks later, I was able to walk normally. Last week, I went for an MRI and CT Scans and they showed no anomalies other than some degeneration on the menisci. Basically, I’m able to run lightly and hop on the left leg without pain. None of the tests above caused any pain either. However, there is a little swelling on the front of the knee and I can only extend to about 165 degrees. When trying to press both knees down to the floor with legs extended, bottom left can’t touch the surface and is still 3 cm above the right knee. Does that meet the criteria of a locked knee? Also, I can almost flex to the point where the ankle touches the posterior but the last 8cms cause intense pain specially if pressure is applied at the same time, as in a full squat or kneeling backward on the floor. Orthopedist suspects I have a bucket handle tear and suggested an arthroscopy to partially remove the torn tissue. My question is, if the bucket handle is not showing on the scans and all meniscus tests are negative, is there anything else which could cause the acute pain when trying to flex to the maximum? Many thanks!
Cheeriooos caballeros :-) Since I'll be traveling overseas for 6 months soon [in 4 weeks time], the choice is either to operate in the coming days or postpone till I get back. My main concern is the torn segment/loose debris irritating healthy tissue, like the synovium or cartilage, if it is not removed. I'll check again whether the bucket handle is showing on the scans or not... atm the knee is pain free and all mechanical symptoms like clicking, popping or grinding have stopped last week. Only remaining issue is the incapacity to achieve full flex/full extension in addition to the swelling surrounding the patella. If the only explanation for the pain during full flex is that the bucket handle is pressing on the nerve endings, then I'll opt for its removal. Since it''s only been 5 weeks, perhaps if given more time, the knee could regain it's full range of motion with physio alone... decisions, decisions...

Great video! Is there a reason you didn't include a standard McMurray's test. My research told me that the Ege's test is is also known as a modified McMurray test or a weight-bearing McMurray test.
Doc wants me to take an MRI. Had me walk across the room on tip toes- had no problem doing so. Then had me walking across the room with my toes lifted, I did that just fine. Right knee pops when bicycling. It's gotten bad so I can no longer bike, but I seem to be running just fine. He's wondering if its a meniscus tear but we won't know til the MRI. Is there a reason why it kills me when I am biking?? and not so much on other activities? Great video, thanks!
that's so wild you'd mention that because this guy adjusted it as low as it could go and I felt less knee pain for awhile. then the bike shop people told me that guy was wrong and they adjusted it a little higher but, the pain right now is so intense! The doc asked me if I could walk tippy toes across the room, and then if I could walk with my toes up using my heels. I performed that just fine. He moved my knee around and it didn't hurt at all. It was only when we tried to bend it, I could only bend it 60 degrees before pain. Wish I could see you guys in person!
Oh, my I think that’s me! Been watching my knee for over a week. Improvements are occurring, but if I put my knee in a certain position...eek, pain city! Slipped in a wet area and the knee twisted in every way but the right way, swelling occurred right away. Using a brace has helped and resting it.

Thank you doctor you guys are awesome. My line of work recently demands a lot of physical work and this pain was getting me worried. I feel great now and am certain will recover soon. God bless
Thank you so much!!! The exercises at the end helped out a lot! You gained a new subscriber!
how often i should do rehab exercises for meniscus tear? I have not been operated? I have 6 weeks since I suffered the knee accident... thanks for your help !!!
Thank you very much for making this video! I tried the exercises and it is helping me a lot with my knee. God bless!
Was your knee unstable at all while doing the exercises? That first twisting one made me cringe, i feel like my knee would break
Best intro ever
The one with the foot on the chair felt great and I kept it up as suggested pushing further range, something popped and after 3 months of limping and soreness everything feels like its back in place. Thx guys!!
Okay.... Real believable..
Let us know if you still have questions after watching!
It’s like watching Colin Mochrie and Ryan Stiles.
In all seriousness, really helpful video
They have the best into EVER
These videos are really helpful
Hi I hurt my knee 12 days ago and I am still having trouble walking. How long should I wait until I need to go see a orthopedic surgeon? No pain in my bone. No breaks in the leg and I'm stable. Just can't walk
Update - I'm able to put almost all my weight and can take small assisted steps. Still a little instability.
How is it now?
I injured my knee in 1970. Every now and then the pain flares up. Can you believe it? More than 50 Years?
The counterclockwise twisting and bending really helped to loosen my knee up.
I have rheumatoid arthritis as well as meniscus damage from an old accident....so I destroyed my knees trying to do Pilates last week. 😅
Like anything else fixing a broken heart takes time, Rome wasn't built in a day. But all these little hints, facts, tutorials, ideas help not only broken heart but the ligaments as well...
Thank yous for sharing and your humor...
Thank you so much for this video. I am a fan.
You are welcome! :)
@@BobandBrad I tried the exercise using the ankle weighs and sitting on the table with my legs swinging back and forth for knee pain. It works. Truly.
About 3.5 of these brought lain to my knee and now that I’m back resting it is hurting terribly. I go to the doctors tomorrow so will talk to them about this, thank you
Thank you so much for this video!
Can a meniscus tear cause the knee to feel tight especially when going up and downs stairs?
Oh wow just thinking about doing any of those movements makes me feel sick. My knees are so painful and have bakers cysts on both.
outside knee pain, swelling gone, no locking of the knee. will i need surgery
very interesting and helpful. Just a couple suggestions: in some videos it's hard to hear you -- not this one-- esp if you speak turned away; black trousers make it hard to differentiate one leg from the other, could you wear gray maybe; could dispense with the formal look too and the black funeral shoes
Thank you as always...stay together ...you folks are great.

Make sure ur camera person changes the focus when ur up close but thanks for the information.
Thank you for the videos . Its definitely helping with the pain.
You guys are great! Thank you for all the videos they have helped me tremendously. Trying to help my mom now. :)
Heyo guys, cheers for your groovy videos :-)
20 years ago, I had a full tear of the PCL caused by a skiing accident.
Cheeriooos caballeros :-)
Since I'll be traveling overseas for 6 months soon [in 4 weeks time], the choice is either to operate in the coming days or postpone till I get back.
The intro song is hilarious
Tell me about it 🤣 very cheesy
I love it. I play a video every morning when I wake up
Ikr🤣
It goes hard fam
Straight from the 70's 😆
After injury...
When should you do these test?
3 days ????
My knee feels better after I walk about a mile. And way worse after standing for a period. Is that a good sign?
This is all great info, but what can I do to help elevate the pain when I walk? I can’t just not move.
can you make a video on how to strengthen the popliteal muscle? especially one that is "stretched" or too weak maybe
Wish they would !
How can i find some good chiropractors to help me ? Can i get an appointment with u guys ? Churopractors out here dont help for nothing out here tracy ca!
Great video! Is there a reason you didn't include a standard McMurray's test. My research told me that the Ege's test is is also known as a modified McMurray test or a weight-bearing McMurray test.
I Wish you guys would tell for every test where you should feel the pain?
You take your bike to the shop to adjust the seat?
What a relief, I'm 250 and been running a mile + for a long time. Being more careful with that now, it looks like I passed all tests
Oh, my I think that’s me! Been watching my knee for over a week. Improvements are occurring, but if I put my knee in a certain position...eek, pain city! Slipped in a wet area and the knee twisted in every way but the right way, swelling occurred right away. Using a brace has helped and resting it.
This intro made my day
We can fix everything except a broken heart. Lmao instantly subscribed
Also did the Foot on the chair lean stretch whatever you may call it, and my knee is already feeling better?! These videos are great.
