Never has something been captured like this. An artist and his life, work and times committed to what can only be called opera so soon after his death by people who were there and participated in it. Andy's nickname: Drella- a portmanteau of Dracula and Cinderella. The performance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music had to be an emotional moment for Reed and Cale. The talent is evidenced everywhere.

Brooklyn Academy of Music. No audience. A masterpiece but both men came away saying that they'd never work with the other again.

My first true Love introduced this album to me in my senior year of High school, 1990. We got stoned & drove around Coastal mountains outside Eugene back before cell phones & internet. I was 17 she was 19 & preparing to go to Colombia Art School in NYC. Beautiful Memories are evoked by this album….

How could you not care for Andy! He created the whole genre of pop art, he made the Velvets, he contributed in the introduction of transgender people and bisexuality into normal society, he was the living embodiment of art. You don't have to understand that, just perhaps respect it. Andy helped make the world better in a way.

This song and performance had started it all for me, when I began composing and performing music for public, in front of people. Some 34 years ago, around 1990. The lyrics and the atmosphere of this whole "Style It Takes" thing make me fascinated still. I remember myself singing this song in front of my friend back then. Just to make the point in which kind of music I am interested. I was shy to death. Then we started to experiment with various chords, words. We did not make it ever up to this level of perfection, but the process itself was definitely worth it. As they say - your journey can become more important than the final destination itself. Thank you, gentlemen, for this performance, you have inspired me for the rest of my life.

    LYRICS:
You've got the money, I've got the time
You want your freedom, make your freedom mine
'Cause I've got the style it takes
and money is all that it takes
You've got connections and I've got the art
You like my attention and I like your looks
and I have the style it take
and you know the people it takes
Why don't you sit right over there, we'll do a movie portrait
I'll turn the camera on and I won't even be there
A portrait that moves, you look great I think
I'll put the Empire State Building on your wall
For 24 hours glowing on your wall
Watch the sun rise above it in your room
    Wallpaper art, a great view
I've got a Brillo box and I say it's art
It's the same one you can buy at any supermarket
'Cause I've got the style it takes
And you've got the people it takes
This is a rock group called The Velvet Underground
    I show movies on them
    Do you like their sound
'Cause they have a style that grates and I have art to make
Let's do a movie here next week
We don't have sound but you're so great
    You don't have to speak
You've got the style it takes (Kiss)
You've got the style it takes (Eat)
You’ve got the style it takes (Couch)
You’ve got the style it takes (Kiss)

i remember reading that cale and reed, fell out with each other writing this song. lou reed wrote the line "cause they have a style that grates". which john cale hated and refused to ever sing.
ive always wondered what the alternative to that line would have been,
Anyway still a great great song.

At various stages in his life, John Cale has looked like everyone from Augustus John to Leonard Nimoy to Bryan Ferry to Leonard Cohen to the (alleged) 'Badgeman' in Mary Moorman's Kennedy assassination photo! Genius takes many shapes and forms--sometimes in the one person!

I play this alot! Didn't they go their separate ways after a brief reunion? I watched a John Cale video dated a few years ago, and he said they never spoke again. That's sad, but it seems in the music industry ego's can be so damaging. I love their music.
