Thank you! I got NO EXPLANATION on how to navigate my C1 fracture and this brace and ever day things. I appreciate this video and the others you have!!!! ❤❤❤
Excellent tutorial. I am currently wearing an Aspen Vista brace after having neck fusion surgery. This will help me immensely. Thank you for the valuable information.
That was a fantastic tutorial. My husband is coming home tomorrow after a cervical fusion and will be in a Miami j brace for the next 6 weeks. Your video will help me so much. Thanks!
Your information is wonderful! I have been using Press and Seal wrap to keep the chin area clean during meals. Turn the dial open, smush the plastic under the chin and press around the front of the brace. It doesn’t replace changing the pads but your loved one won’t be hanging in chicken soup.
I place a quarter of a paper towel under my chin, over the foam, during eating of broth/soft foods to keep drips from getting onto the foam. Brawny Tear-A-Square is my new favorite.
Thanks for that - I just got back from Johns Hopkins with cervical disk extractions and repair. (a 'Great' place if you need this type of work). I bought an Aspen three weeks prior to surgery to learn how to sleep and move in a collar. They sent me home with the Miami J. I find the Aspen more comfortable. It may not be legal for you to comment on adjustments but I am three hours away from the facility and tend to tweak it a bit. I'm off to buy some new pads.... Thanks again. Jim
@@EquipMeOT Thanks. One thing you might suggest is a way to make the chin and close contact area just below the ears less abrasive. The tricot fabric of the Miami J seems more smooth. The Aspen' open poly knit collects sweat ..which helps trap dirt. I made clothing for surfers for a number of years and think I can mod the chin and rear wings to be more friendly for 24/7 wear. I am also sending Hopkins some elbow pads after suffering thru a 45min Thoracic MRI. THAT was tough! Cheers. Jim
My Velcro where you pull on to take off the brace comes off after 5 weeks and that’s with only taking it off to clean once a week. The Velcro was was replaced by surgeon’s office but never really stuck on properly. I’m using an office clip to keep brace on snug. I was told by the medical equipment company that I have to get a referral and pay another co-pay for a new brace. Four more weeks to go with this brace. I hope it holds.
Hi. My husband had cervical neck fusion Thursday and he is in an Aspen collar. He also has a shower collar. Couldn't he wear the shower collar while I change out the pads and thus not by lying down?
I just had surgery and noticed my Aspen Vista collar is too long in the front. My chin doesn't rest in the chin support. Where can I get a smaller collar? I don't want to have a different issue from lack of support.
What if the doctor said you cannot remove the neck brace under any circumstance because if you do you could get paralyzed. What do I do? I'm very uncomfortable with touching it. Please respond...
I’ve had many patients with similar restrictions and they just have to keep the brace in position until cleared. It’s not very fun and will get kind of gross, but it’s not forever and will allow proper healing.
@@EquipMeOT thank you so much for responding. makes me feel a little better. So to try to keep it as clean as possible until he gets it removed in 1 or 2 weeks.
@@EquipMeOT thank you so much I've never had anything like this happen before so I don't know what to do and with it being my fiance it's just more nerve-wracking. Thank you so much for your videos and for replying ❤
It is possible to complete the pad change yourself from laying down using the same strategy with the clean pads on your chest or within close reach. Threading the back piece under your neck is the hardest part, but if you are careful it can be done.
I just ordered my second set of pads for my Aspen. Thank you for this video. I just got my brace last week.
You're welcome!

Excellent point. I agree the fabric choice on the Aspen fabric choice is perplexing.

Nice explanation
Great video!! 👍🏼👍🏼
are there 2 sets of pads with the initial brace
Thanks for sharing
Very good!
Could you please get me a link to the wedge pillow and the pads for the aspen neck brace please.
Wedge: amzn.to/3qM4MHr
Aspen Collar Pads: amzn.to/446le3L
For the collar pads, make sure you verify that these match your exact model and size.
I got extra pads on Amazon. Also purchased the Aspin collar on Amazon for about 52 dollars.
How does the patient get up from a laying flat position?
Hi. My husband had cervical neck fusion Thursday and he is in an Aspen collar. He also has a shower collar. Couldn't he wear the shower collar while I change out the pads and thus not by lying down?
Yes, but he would probably still need to lay down when you switch him back to his regular collar.
Where do u buy a Miami Jbrace
Can you do a video showing how to teach someone how to change brace at bed level/clean their pads independently?
Certainly!
Thanks!!!

Contact your surgeons office. They have collars there and can get you properly fitted.

Yes, clean and most importantly, dry. Bathing will be tough. I recommend the shampoo caps or dry shampoo for hair washing.

Why would one use one or other
