@@lauradana22 ok, (1), take your meds, you sound like an insane person. (2) context is required for this scene. if you've decided to take it at face value then so be it, but theres an entire season of character development that comes after this. you can examine what lenny's words here mean all you like, but he literally does confess directly to god in THE NEXT SCENE and take everything he says here back. Listen, I believed you knew some basic ideas about religions before seeing the show. Sorry for being incoherent. I'll try again... The nature of "thought"( of consiousness, of being aware of your own existence) in all religious experiences it is not only rational. Every religion has a form of "revelation". For Christians it comes directly from God. God illuminates the individual. Actually, for all Abrahamic religions. In shamanic beliefs it is the trance the sman undergoes to separe himself from his body. Regardless of how they achieve this perspective and the words used to name the experience, it performs the same function: literally gainig another perspective than my own. Another awareness. Same goes for Nirvana. This is the sense of "illumined" here. Understanding without the rationality grown inside a single consciousness. A higher sense of understanding. Please keep this in mind when you read below. In all religions god is one and multiple at the same time, thus breaking the principle of identity or the first principle of logic. The Greeks had this idea, the Hindus have it. In Cristianity it is called the Holly Trinity. God, the Holly Spirit and Jesus are both the same person and separate persons at the same time. A shrink would probably tell you that this is very similar to their idea that the self is constituted in relation to others. The "others" are constituting factors for the "self image", in essence they guarantee your existence. The "I" cannot exist without the others, and that creates tension because you are having access only to your own perspective. This is the nature of Lenny's prayer. Struggling to understand his existence and somehow yet stumbling into it. Also, this is why he is so desperately seeking his parents. He needs their confirmation of his existence. He has not yet accepted revelation as coming from someone else but himself, and yet he is desperately seeking it, because he wonders at his own existences. "Not them, me!" I exist regardless of them. And then going back in this circle of paradoxical thought "I illumined myself, fuck!" This is circle of thought is the major theme and it spreads throught the show. In the next scene his disbelief in his own existence is causing him to be just more desperate. But God, had indeed illumined him, even if Lenny is yet to accept that. As he is yet to accept others in his life. Yeah, yeah, whatever you say!

@Sanctus Paulus 1962 Wrong on both counts. "so that the man of God may be complete" - Your reading of this is wrong. If catholic doctrine was true, if Scripture alone was insufficient, then scripture " *can not* make you complete for every good work at all". It is very clear in this passage that what Paul says is that Scripture is a sufficient source on all doctrinal matters, otherwise even the mere possibility of it making you complete wouldn't be mentioned here. "stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by letter" Which doesn't disprove Sola Scriptura *at all* Where in that text does it say that there is any difference in the tradition Paul taught them by mouth and by scripture? They're both the same thing. This is an easy opt out by Catholics to pretend that all your modern traditions was somehow "never written down, and was only passed on by mouth", when they are clearly _not_ apostolic, and an undeniable evolution over thousands of years. We hold on to _apostolic_ teaching, while "You nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down." - Mark 7:13
