Fan install ASMR...hilarious. I've been watching dozens of how to videos. I now realize you are all that I need, from start to finish. This will save me, and others, a tremendous amount of time and wasted effort. Thank you. YOU ARE AMAZING
Your my kind of woman adventurous and willing to teach yourself and install your own fans and windows cant wait to see your build I am a 40 plus year woodworker and i have been pretty impressed with some of the amateur builds I have seen you tube is a wonderful teacher.
Your videos are amongst the best for vanlife! How your channel is not bigger is the biggest surprise! Very good and explaining from the basics to the difficult aspects whilst making it simple. Your electrics video is fantastic!
Well Maxair should definitely recommend this video to there customers . Your fabulous at explaining while not worrying about the camera . You don’t fumble a single word . I assume you’ll cut the screws off when you do the ceiling . But maybe you’re dropping your ceiling down a little . I’m positive there was no leaks as it looked like the best sealed fan on RUclips .
I appreciate how detailed and thorough your explanations are. From the table with all of your supplies laid out ahead of time, down to explaining what you are about to do and why. Thank you for sharing!
I love how detailed and meticulous you are. I'm at the very beginning of my build, before the beginning, really. Doing some tlc on the truck first. I will be watching your videos frequently because of how useful they are. Great work.
Just a note - at the 15:15 mark in the video you say to use the white headed screws to secure the fan to the mount. That is incorrect. Those screws are for the final interior "garnish ring" as specified in the instructions. The fan mounts via the 4 remaining stainless steel screws. I did it the wrong way :( But, seems ok. Otherwise another outstanding and instructive video. Wouldn't have gotten through it without you!
Awesome, brilliant, concise, easy to follow, full of details. Thanks for this tutorial. I'm right behind you on my Ducato (= ProMaster) conversation, and it's quite useful to have such a visual assurance of what I'm doing! Much appreciated!
Great vid! At 15:16 you mention the white-headed screws are for attaching the fan to the receiving flange, but the manual I have states that they are actually for attaching the garnish inside the van..probably so they match the garnish inside the van where they'll be seen Just thought I'd mention for others. Thank you for the vid, it's helping me with my install process :)
Thank you so much for the comment. Personally I say go for it! Take your time, plan ahead, measure twice and cut once and trust yourself. It is so empowering. I know you can do it🥰
@@LaurenLawliss I need the tools and a work space if I do. I don’t even have a driveway right now. 😭 debating the adapter and the wood frame is what’s throwing me off a bit
I do a lot of meter work. A magnet is a great idea. But what do you do with all that metal flakes and dust stuck on your magnet? Wrap your magnet with a paper towel before collecting the metal debris. Then hold it over your trash can as you unwrap the paper towel from the magnet. A rubber band works
Yes, as I shared, a magnet would be perfect and I recommend putting a ziploc bag around it before use so once you are done you can flip the bag inside out and trap all the natal flakes for disposal😄
Awesome, well done, truly informative videos, Lauren! Sorry if I missed it but why did you use the fan adapter on one fan and not the other?? I'm on the fence on the pros/cons to using the adapter. Thanks!!!
Thank you Milena! The adapter helps the fan to sit flush to the roof ribs. You only need this if you mount the fan anywhere that isn’t in the front on the flat surface. It is great at helping to prevent leaks too because it is more sealed with the uneven surface of the roof. Hope this helps! Best of luck☺️
That is a question I had as well for the company I bought my electrical items from and they said it could affect solar intake when the fans are up, but I haven’t noticed an issue.
@@LaurenLawliss Yeah, it saved you all of the mess from the metal shavings getting tossed everywhere by the jig saw. The Liquid Nails is an unnecessary step in the process. Mine took 24 hours to setup. Couldn’t wait that long. Held everything together with clamps and drilled holes and applied screws.
Hey there! The instructions that came with the fan does recommend butyl for the adapter install to the van roof. It is super easy to use and performs great. Highly recommend this for the install☺️
OKAY, How through are you, wow totally impressed. Looking forward for the complete build. Curious what is it you do for a J O B. You have really done your homework. Great work.
You only use the eBay gasket on the back and you did not use one on the front is that correct? I know the front has some grooves, but it doesn’t have the channels like the back does…
Not sure I understand the comment. The MaxxAir fans are 12v and pull very little power so it is very efficient. I have ran them for over 12 hours numerous times and it doesn’t drain the batteries at all.
Correct. No adapter is needed for fans installed in that flat section of the roof. I used butyl tape under the flange and 3M Window Weld for the back adapter 😁

Hi Lauren I wanted to ask you, now that you are living in your van full time, do you wish you would have installed an air conditioner or do you find that the 2 fans are adequate for keeping you and the van cool?
Hey! Fair question. An AC would be nice, but I don’t have any experience with one in the van so I cannot say definitely. Personally, I don’t mind the heat and I try to move with the weather. Having two fans and venting windows certainly helps. So it is manageable but won’t be nearly as comfortable as living in a house with AC. I don’t want to favor one option over the other because it really comes down to personal preference and the trade offs made to go with either or. There are pros and cons to both.
But i Hate being hott so im going with an ac above my head 2 300 watt panels so when its 100 degrees ill run my ac off my solar alone than w fan in the front 🎉
Hello Laura , I am thinking to buy a Promaster but I hear that the insurance is expensive for cargo van. May you make a video about your insurance experience?
Thank you for your comment! Insurance will vary state by state and company by company. Personally, my van insurance is around the same as my car insurance (which isn't much). Also, after the conversion is complete, I will be titling and insuring the van as an RV which I have heard from many will drop the insurance cost. Hope this helps!
Do you still feel like you need the front and rear in such a small area? I'm hoping 1 will do the job and just open a window (a little) for circulation. Those fans are expensive
Personally, I like having both. One fan can pull air in and the other can push air out, creating a nice flow throughout the van. Also one is over the kitchen area when I cook and the other over the bed.
Great question! I have not gotten to that part of the install yet as that will go on after my ceiling. I’d assume a hand saw would work - like one you’d use to cut PVC plumbing tubes. You only use the eBay gasket on the back and you did not use one on the front is that correct? I know the front has some grooves, but it doesn’t have the channels like the back does…
