  • A day in the life of Japanese Politician in Tokyo Japan. We follow a Tokyo Politician from from morning until evening to show her workday giving insight on Japanese work culture and Japanese culture in general. We also see Japanese working hours and would it would be like to work in Japan as a politician. Specifically, we will be following a Kugikaigiiin, in English, a City Council Member in Minato-ku in Tokyo. Confusingly, the term Ku in English means ward, a subdivision of a city, yet in Tokyo all of the 23 wards, like Minato-ku, are classified as cities since they’re equally independent and governed like a city even with their own mayor. Hence it's called Minato City. There are 34 council members in Minato city, directly elected by Citizens every 4 years. City Council members, decide on matters such as budgets, ordinances & deliberate and decide on municipal policies, all the while, working closely with the Mayor. This term, 13 out of the 34 members are women, one of the highest representation of women city council members in Japan. In fact, only 10.2 % Japan’s Diet members are women, the lowest in the G20. Our city council member is Ayumi Enomoto, also a working Japanese mom with Japanese baby. She shares how she raises her baby and works at the same time. She works at Minato city hall in a typical japanese office. As a Japanese worker in a government office, you'll be able to see what this type of work in Japan would be like. Also, we visit Nagatacho area where the National Diet building and Diet members are located. Ayumi belongs to the Tokyo branch of the Democratic Party For the People. I hope you enjoy this Day in the Life of Politician and don't forget to check out my other Japan Day in the Life videos.

@@darlyzumo Surely this must have a chronic cumulative fatigue effect do you think? Also, where's dad? Always way at work, how will that wee kiddie know his own father when he only sees him perhaps twice a week? Can't possibly be good for him. Psychologically and physically punishing. Great for the community, awful for the individual. A balanced society must care for both.

No worries, you have just regular politicians. In Germany, in the most important parliament (Bundestag), most elected don't participate in their political work for the most part. if they were honestly working for the greater good, they would not have time to have side jobs at various companies for which they lobby.
I believe some are good politicians who take their job seriously, but especially conservatives and moderate left are known to do not much work and do not connect to the people. Usually more than a third of Germans do not vote because they do not feel represented within the political system.

Minato is also a very high-end metropolitan city. There's a lot going on there. Its not even close to a small town yet she seems to spend her days actually connecting with her community. Really hard to find leaders like this these days. Most of our citiy leaders in San Francisco don't even live in the city. They just have some address in the city for some apartment they lease to someone or a building they own & reside outside of the city. I can't imagine them taking a bus to go to work on our SF bus system called Muni or riding their bicycle in the city. Our mayor rides our subway system surrounded by body guards for a photo op😂 otherwise she has a car & lives in some fancy place away from the serfs.
