Hello to all our ‪@vagabondlife2018‬ subscribers.
We moved on from Ferry Reserve after an awesome two days and nights there and headed off to stay in Martinborough at the Top 10 campground.
Campgrounds are not a normal place for us to stay due to the cost of them, as well as the fact that we like to explore our countryside and there are some amazing free camps here in New Zealand, or we choose to stay at NZMCA parks.
We were in Martinborough for our nephew's wedding, and as there aren’t any free camps or NZMCA parks in the town the Top 10 was our only choice.
The day after the wedding which was our 22nd Wedding Anniversary, and while Rewa was in the kennels for one more day, we headed off for the day to explore.
First, we headed to Ngawi (pronounced "naa-wee"). Ngawi is a small fishing/holiday village within five kilometres of Cape Palliser, the southernmost point of New Zealand's North Island.
It is famous for its use of bulldozers to launch the large fishing boats.
After the drizzle set in, we headed further down the road to Cape Palliser known for the Cape Palliser Lighthouse and its 243 steps to climb to the top platform. This was not Shelly’s favourite thing to do but managed the climb to the top, and although it was a foggy & drizzly day, a clear sky day would provide a view possibly to the tip of the South Island.
Then onto Lake Ferry for a spot of lunch at the Lake Ferry Hotel.
The next day we headed off to Napier and stayed at the NZMCA park so Darren could catch up with his mum and we had planned to stay for about 10 days and bike some on Napier’s brilliant bikeways, but alas the rain set in AGAIN.
Our plan after 10 days in Napier was to head onto Gisborne but with a Cyclone on the way, we decided to head home.
We have had a very wet winter, followed by a mostly wet spring and summer so far hasn’t proven to be much better, but we are hoping to get away for a few days before Darren starts the Kiwifruit season in Early March.
