c70 owner here. 4 weeks in this is my review. by far best Canon camera i've owned. previous cams i've had are c300 mark 1 and 1dxii. the image is just buttery smooth, so clean and any noise is very organic. classic canon colors. there are other cams this good for cheaper but canon just does everything so well. the built in ND's are amazing.
the batrtery life is second to none. I have the 30 and 60 battery and the BP-A60 usually lasts me an entire shoot, the fucking battery lasts like 4 hours running, and like 6 hours with down time. amazing. Clog2 and 3 are great. the best parts of this camera that many lack is being able to input a LUT and shoot in Clog but having your image on camera look like it will in post to better have a feeling about how you will shoot and what you're shooting. the digital IS is actually very good. you only lose about 10% of the outside frame of the image and its very steady. very little digital artifacts and wobble in the image, lovely. not as good as a built in IBIS but close, just as good but again you lose some image.
basically this is a perfect cam, minus a EVF, full frame sensor and Raw codec. but its so good they had to cripple it or no one would buy C500's anymore this cam shoots such nice images. but the 0.71 adpater though expensive can get you some full frame images. also, the codecs are super thick and hefty, very malleable in post, not as good as RAW but close. so really the only downside is no EVF, which you won't need, the small little monitor built in is lovely actually and most pros use an external monitor anyways. would've been nice as an add on like the new blackmagic 6k does, but oh well, 9.5/10 camera for me. feel like i've been waiting my whole life for this cam

I agree, I miss the EVF too, I've been using it on my C200 for years, and with C70 I'm using a Kinotehnik LCDVF lupe on the LCD which has great resolution and colors so it looks better than even the $8000 ARRI EVF-2 :)

@@vladimirtalijan yeah but to be honest i actually don't miss it. your solution is better, and I prefer it just not have one and then you can add an accessory. just wish they had their own grade detachable option EVF, but then its canon so it would've cost $3000 for a $200 EVF sold for $500 by any other company.
i do like EVF. my original c300 cables broke so i had no monitor for it. I would use my old HD sony monitor to replace it but the battery life was shit so i would often use the EVF and the original c300 didn't even have that good of one, but still, its nice to sometimes just fully be IN THE CAMERA in how you are filming. for sure I shoot different based on what i'm using for the image check. but Canon really did a good job, compared to many built on monitors like say the Eva1 from panasonic which was glossy reflective shit, or even my 1dxii back screen which is actually quite good, but sucks compared to the c70 which has a nice color representation and contrast/roll off to properly show how the footage actually looks. i don't feel hindered by the monitor which is rare. usually when you have to shoot without monitors you always feel it looks worse until you get it to a computer and see it in full screen proper brilliance. even when you do use a monitor, sometimes it just looks so much better on a projector, tv or 4k computer monitor than a 9" little DOP monitor even though it has good specs. but this i feel the shots in camera more, the brilliance of the footage comes off the screen well if that makes sense, and I love the side strap for the hand and classic top bar that DSLR always lack. its so nice to have a sturdy designed arm to add the monitor to without having to add on a third party which might not fit perfectly.
the c70 does have some weird balance issues. it does tip forward alot, but that is one of the few downsides. balance doesn't matter when you are holding it or its on a tripod anyways. just when its on a table top flat.

@@ColinPatrickWeiss Hey Colin, I am considering the c70 for my passion projects and occasional client projects as well. I shoot and edit for a couple of skincare brands weekly and was wondering if the C70 could record 1080p @24/or 30 fps. That way I could separate Small and large file sizes between myself and clients I work with.
(They could care less about 4k 10-bit and so on)

I have a question, Lenses made for super 35 sensor, lets say 24 mm, do we have to count in the crop factor? so 24 would be closer to 35? or is that already included?

Question: does the focus guide on the C70 work with fully manual cine lenses? It doesn't work on my R6 when using my Rokinon Cine DS lenses (that don't have any electrical contacts on them).

can't tell you honestly, i use all L series glass. but I think yes it does, wait, doesn't this video go into that, or the last abelcine about the c70, i know it does, but that is with Canon cine primes, i don't know if they work with other companies fully manual lenses.

Hi T. -- thanks for watching! Here's a response from Geoff Smith, one of our tech specialists: The Focus Guide functionality requires Canon EF (or, in the future, RF) electronic contacts on the manual lens' mount in order to communicate focus distance and other information to the camera body. Some examples of lenses that will activate the Focus Guide on the C70 include Canon's own C-NE EF-mount cinema primes as well as EF mount versions of Zeiss' Otus line as well. Other lenses with Canon EF mounts with electronic contacts may work as well. All native EF-mount lenses require an EF-mount adapter such as the Control Ring Adapter EF-EOS R or EF-EOS R 0.71x. The EF-EOS R 0.71x will reduce a full-frame lens' field of view to match the imaging area of the C70's 3-perf Super35-format sensor, retaining the lens' full-frame field of view and 'boosting' the speed of the adapted lens by one stop. If you have other questions, feel free to reach out to our specialists directly at techsupport@abelcine.com.
