Oops! I meant to say you can buy all those books behind me on DrivethruRPG, not D&D Beyond/Direct :) Great conversation, thanks for having me.
No problem!
I am very _very_ excited for this. It Slots in _perfectly_ into my Homebrew world.
heck yeah!
I started playing D&D in 2019. So I am really excited for spell jammer and will definitely run this next after ending my curse of Strahd campaign and following that with a short adventure of either phandelver or water deep dragon heist. The setting is exciting and I cannot wait to get the reference books and home brew a spell jammer campaign
heck yeah!
I can’t wait to see people say it’s a ripoff of StarFinder and others telling them that Spelljammer existed first
its easier to be angry than to take 2 seconds of research haha!
Already saw someone in the comments of the announcement trailer who made that mistake
It will always be a meme in our hearts.
haha truly the greatest of memories!
Thanks for having me on the channel Trevor. A fun chat.
it was!
I'm super excited about Spelljamming Across the Universe, it's life Boo but not as we know it! 👍👍
I'll be doing my usual of skimming the content and letting my imagination off the leash 👍 And a high quality soft cover book would be a plus!
3, 2, 1, lets Spelljam!
🎶 Spelljamming across the universe, always going forward because we can't reverse... 🎵
@@CptDrake you got it! 👍😆 Illithids on the starboard bough? 🤣🤣
I'm looking forward to it. But I'm not familiar with it so I'll probably use it to create space adventures that fit my imagination. Hopefully there's alot of useful content.
heres hoping!
hadn't heard they might be getting rid of crystal spheres and Phlogiston in the new book
crystal spheres I can understand, the astral sea makes sense and I was going to do that with my own game anyway.
but I hope they keep the concept of Phlogiston flows for getting between systems, it made so much sense to me that that was why ships had sails to catch it and it basically acted as hyperspace but are like deep sea currents to get places quicker but also twist and shift so travel time may vary
though just like me getting rid of the crystal spheres in my world I'll definitely add Phlogiston back into my setting is it isnt in the book, it just wouldn't be in its own space and more something that flows in the more empty parts of the astral between solar systems
looking forward to the flying ship rules the book will have, will use them even in my terrestrial based campaigns for airships
Nope, Phlogiston is definitely gone gone.
heck yeah!
Spelljamming across the universe!🪐⚡⭐🌟💫🌙☄️✨🌕🌎
heck yeah!
I think there going to combine the three books when there sold out side of the box set like what starfinder dose. Also excellent episode!
thank you!
I’m fine with the split books similar to beadle & Grimms, but still hardcover (feels more premium than booklets to me).
I also like that they’re giving free content as marketing. The monster compendium is cool, and hopefully the intro adventure will be too.
My concern is the source book 3rd won’t have enough content. It will only have lore and info on the Rock of Bral. I wanted something more similar to Eberron’s book:
for sure, we want more!
@@NoFunAllowed I wonder if they’ll do a charity expansion on dnd beyond and DM’s guild like they did for witchlight? A bit scummy being basically DLC, but many were fine buying the domains of delight for a good cause
I appreciate the three of you and this video. Thanks!
thank you!
The hardbound books, a double sided map,a DM screen, and a slip case all for $70 USD is a pretty good deal. By comparison a 2nd edition box set would be more than $90 USD when you account for inflation.
imagination sure does cost a lot of money haha!
I think there not going to get rid of the phlogiston but have the astral plane as the new way to get to places faster like a FTL
i dig the astal sea more anyway haha!
I agree, using the Astral instead makes more sense to me
I am looking forward to this, I'll be able to mix third party with official material willy nillly. As a DM I am going to have so much fun with this. With Speljammer it's go for the gonzo because the sky is only a gateway to realms beyond.
the skies are no longer the limit!
So are you going to need to eat, drink, and breathe on the astral now? Will you age there? Also i feel like its kinda weird to slap the entire prime into the outer planes. But thats just me.
Nope not just you honestly moving spelljamming into the astral plane was the worst possible decision they could've made
Do we know that is what they did for a fact? Or is it just that the only way to make it to another planet in a reasonable time is through the Astral plane?
Guys I think that you are missing the elephant in the room, how can you describe properly the entire universe of Spelljammer in 60 pages of the adventure in space??? Do you think they have space for describing like at least 20 ships, the rules for ships combat and ship buuilding, the new skills, the different factions of the universe?
I did not miss it.
I just think you can play GammaWorld, Star Trek the RPG, or a series of other "space based" RPG's. Dungeons and Dragons is about Dungeons and Dragons, not Spaceships and Aliens. Do you mean to tell me that all of the Worlds that are and can be created in DND, as well as all the levels of the Abyss and the other planes are not enough? Knowing what we know about space, and its properties, To me it just doesn't seem to fit the "character" of DND. My opinion.
A common opinion, despite spaceships ALWAYS being present in D&D lore and there always being science fantasy aspects to the game. Each to their own, play it your own way, but 'Expedition to the barrier peaks' exists, and it was written by the games co-creator, so, there is simply no validity to D&D being just a fantasy game. It's always been more than that.
I agree with Fred on the paperback books from WotC.
I’m not thrilled with the idea of $70 or digital book only
for sure, the cheaper the better!
Yeah that is hs the fact anyone buys them is insane.
Just want to say that customers can't run a company into the ground, that's something only the company itself can do by producing nothing but garbage that nobody wants, customers not buying your crap is the company's fault, not the customers and supporting a company that doesn't make the things you want is pretty dumb.
I'm not a fan of hard covers every one I've gotten has just fallen apart
id sue haha!
Astral plane much better idea!
who doesnt want to go cruising in the astral sea?
If they use the astral plane then that will be a major deal breaker for me. Spelljammer was all about traversing the material plane by physicly flying form one world to another. The astral plane was for planescape if you wanted to use the planes for your multiversal travel
One nitpick, you called spelljammer a mix of DnD and Sci fi, that's flat wrong and it's one of the misconceptions that hobbled the setting all the way back in 1989 because even back then there were grognards who hated new ideas and thought sci fi dnd was stupid. Spelljammer is pure fantasy, the closest passing resemblence to sci fi it ever had was the idea that the ground or air wasn't the only place for stories to happen.
He said “mix of fantasy and sci-fi” not “DnD and sci-fi.”
And it is.
people associate space with sci-fi, so its easier to say it like that haha
Spelljammer is where TSR jumped the shark IMO. It never resonated with me and it still doesn't. That said, this is a big release and I'm excited for what it can bring to the D&D Universe. I'll pass on this but I hope that a ton of players get into and enjoy this. Cheers!
theres always something for someone!
Yeah but if people think they won't ruin spelljammer as a setting you are very wrong.
they cant ruin spelljammer. they cant ruin anything you already have haha!
@@NoFunAllowed after 30 years though it wouldn't hurt to get something new. Especially something that doenst completely trash on the original setting
I'm not sure spelljammer is for me. I missed it first time round and it sounds rather silly. Maybe it fits better with the 5e game. Some of the monsters do look really cool so maybe they can convert me. I don't feel I need wotc to create my content there are so many great Kickstarters and publishers like kobold press working in the system and of course I can homebrew too. As you say wotc can't take my game away and I don't need to buy everything they make or only buy from them.
for sure, we as the community make ad better D&D than any one company can!
I predict this will be a flop because of SJW and wokeness overload. I really wanted to play this. Remove the politics, social identity, and gender identity out of the games. Leave that to the players at the table to decide. These are topics that should remain neutral in the source materials.
There is not ONE hint of that in this product so, your opinion needs a lot of INFORMING.
It's 5e so we already know it's going to be woke garbage. Don't waste your money, support the OSR!
i prefer OSR over 5e, but im here to tell you calling 5e woke garbage is a sure fire way to turn people off from the OSR movement. if you dont have anything nice to say, dont go out of your way to make the OSR look bad.
