- macmost.com/e-... You can buy cheap NFC tags and use them to trigger Shortcuts and other actins on your iPhone. You can set up a Personal Automation that automatically runs when triggered by touching your iPhone to a tag. You can also write information to tags that can bring up web pages and request other actions from any iPhone or Android user with a recent device.

I updated my phone and wondered what NFC was so now I’m here and it’s awesome!
this is officially my favorite channel from now on. Thanks a lot man!
No problem, glad I showed you it.
@@Mr_Jacks646 do I know you? And when exactly did you show me?
You sir are awesome!
@@joshmuggs5493 are you adding a public comment but for some reason replying to me instead?
@@longnhatking5408 lol 2 years and you’re still replying. did you get nfc tags?
This is giving me soooooo many ideas! I operate and consult for boutique hotels and I can see so many possibilities for using these tags to allow guests to connect to the internet, be directed to our online guest app, etc.
You could also just set a login site for your WiFi network
At first i thought what could i use this for, But by the end of the vid you had answered that for me👍
I thought the NFC reader on the iPhone was directly in the back middle of the phone but it’s actually on top right on where the camera is at.
For the iphone 12 pro max its in the top left
To use iPhones or other iOS devices to join a wifi, create the NFC tag as shown in the video, then display the QR code and screen save the cropped QR code (it will go to your photos). You can then print the QR code in any size, including contact sheet. iOS guests can then scan the QR code to join your wifi.
Sorry but you don’t need a tag to do that. Go to the Shortcut Gallery and find : Share Wi-Fi
So cool! Never new these even existed! Thanks a lot!👍🏼
This is cool stuff. I was under the impression that Apple was still holding a strangle grip on the NFC capabilities of the iPhones. Thank you for all of the great info you provide, Gary.
I'm trying to use it as a medical ID it was made on windows has worked with every android device but has been 50/50 with iphones works on SE2,x, 11 does not work on 8, 11 pro or 12 (mini?) I really have no clue why
Really need to talk to my parents about getting these nfc readers for animal crossing amiibo cards
ThatIsabelle dose it work with that
splatoonlover 43 idk
ThatIsabelle have you tried it yet?
@@KandiedKanes NOPE!!
hey, they def work! however, you need to browse different apps (that will always be in testflight aka beta). some work better than others, and all of them are slightly complicated. do ur research!
Oh my, so much potential!!! I didn’t even know something like that was remotely possible! And so easy to do thanks to Shortcuts, I wonder why it’s not common knowledge already?
Many thanks for this video!
its been an android thing for probably 10yrs now. you guys (IOS) got it recently with a few models with the 7 or 8. you should see more about it now that a few models are using it.
@@haroldbrown3452 I'd like to correct this streamer and correct you as well iPhone 7 is not the oldest model apple that can use nfc it is also capable in the 6, se, and I believe the 5. This feature is available for any apple products that use apple pay and can tap. So this has literally been an apple feature well over 10 years and even before Android started incorporating it
It actually is common knowledge just nobody ever takes the time to learn about their phone they rather learn from others.
@@cyanideenvysixxx Really- where do you find this feature I have a 6 plus and cant find it
@@norleenslack5218 first of all I clearly stated that they all have the feature. If my statement was false(which it can't be because there is proof) than apple tap to pay would not be capable on the models prior to the 7 which it is as you yourself should know. And secondly I also stated that you cannot toggle or mess with the NFC features on any model before the 7 including your 6plus model but they do in fact have the capabilities to use NFC. On another note if you do have any questions I'm more than happy to help if you contact me directly. I would rather not have full paragraphs of me explaining information that this streamer missed because I would feel rude seeing as he took time out his day to make this informational videos to help people and I do not want others to think we are merely poking fun.
My phone doesn't seem to be able to detect NFCs on the app (or other apps from the store), works fine on iPhone shortcuts which is odd! any tips?
Thanks for explaining what it was!
Now I can delete it from my screen because it was bugging me!
I can't make it work on my 11 Pro Max. I downloaded the app in the video and wrote my WiFi configuration to a NFC tag. Nothing happens when I hold the top of my phone or any other compatible iPhone near the tag. I tried with 3 different brand but same result.
What a great video! How did I not know this? Thanks!
this is amazing! so many opportunities for efficiencies.
Great video. Just a point of clarification (although if I’m wrong, please correct me).
The iPhone XR/XS (and newer) have background scanning (i.e. the ability for the phone to respond to an NFC tag without opening any specific app. You just need to bring your phone close to the tag.)
Older iPhones (including the iPhone X) do not have NFC tag background scanning and an NFC scanning app needs to be opened and a user needs to physically scan a tag for anything to happen.
Is there a way that shortcuts can implement the opening of a scanning app?
Iphone X has a nfc reader
Unfortunately iOS does not directly import contacts with an NFC, you have to upload the contact info online and use that URL.
You can do a QR code 🤓
I love it! Can't wait to try.
NFC Tools is a great app.
thanks for the awesome video
Wow, this was very informational. Good stuff, you just got another subscriber 😍😍
I’m afraid that iPhone X and below it, can only read the NFC tag only if you trigger the ‘nfc reading mode’ first. But iPhone Xr and above will be able to read the tag by simply tapping to the nfc like in your video. Cmiiw
Wow you explained it thoroughly 🍎😍 thank you so much. Cause I can't understand other like they say its about this but when you watch the video they didn't even explain a single thing how to use nfc tag. Anyway I'm a new subscriber ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for the simple tutorial to get me started :-)
Very nice explanation!!!
Great channel as well, keep it up man.
Thanks loved how you explained everything well😊🇦🇺
Awesome video mate, cheers
Just a sidenote: if you place the tags on metal surfaces or on devices not shielded from interference, your phone probably won’t be able to scan them.
I have an iPhone 11 with iOS 14. I have the same NFC Tools application. The app cannot see my NFC tag. Please help me.
Perhaps something is wrong with the tag then?
@@macmost The shortcuts app sees my tag as I do automations

Great video!
Great content. well explained i like the WiFi guest set up!
Nice job. Thanks!
This is great! but i was wondering if i scan any NFC card and want to save in iphone so next time instead card i can use phone! any idea? please
When you scan a card you get a URL. So it takes you to a web page. Just bookmark that web page.
Thanks!
Fascinating!
awesome! thank you
Great video. Thank you 🙏🏽
thank you for this

My iPhone has an nfc tag reader since I did the latest software update but there’s nothing in my shortcuts for nfc like in this video. Any advice would be appreciated thanks
Same for my iPhone 8+ running on IOS 14.2 :((
@@Angela-wv4yw Yeah, bit annoying.
Are you sure they work on the iPhone 8? I don’t see an option for NFC tag on my iPhone 8 Plus 😟.
Why would anyone want a nfc tag? I don’t understand the purpose could you please tell me
@@AShadeOfYou Many different reasons. I have 1 so that when I set my phone on coffee table it turns on the TV and sets a homekit scene. I also have one on my water bottle that records the amount of water I'm drinking automatically.
When I search for NFC tags it shows two different types: Active and Passive tag. Please can you tell me which one is compatible for iPhone!
Thank You 😇
Awesome. TY!
Amazing video though and very well informative
I just upgraded to iOS 14 and unfortunately, NFC isn’t an option in shortcuts anymore.
Wrong actually you can have it on your tool bar
ya2save yeah, but it’s no longer an option in the shortcuts to use for automations.
@@ericdavidson9974 same here. It’s just not in the shortcuts list but it is on the pull up screen.

I have IOS13.6 on an 11pro and I don't see these options in the shortcuts app. is this still applicable or did they move these settings to a different app?
I think it applicable for the latest ios
Thx so much bruh
It’s very good thank you 😊
Can you do a video about utilizing Office 365 on a Mac? I have a lot issue with it bogging down my system. One drive syncing is problematic as well. Thanks.
That's a big topic. Utilizing? The apps should just work with no resource problems. Maybe contact Microsoft support with specific issues -- remember you are paying them for support so they should help.
A fantastic example of laziness
Anyone managed to get the NFC wifi tag to work? On iOS, I’m trying on iPhone 11 Pro Max but not working 😫
Same issue here it will not read and setup it’s like it isn’t reading the tag etc I’m looking into it myself
Download and Install NXP NFC TagInfo and then press Scan & Launch as it will not do it on its own you need a seperate app to do it which makes it useless to me
Got it working but need the same app on amy other iPhone to read it, so you can’t just scan and join Wi-Fi so not really a shortcut.
What is considered a lot of bytes when it comes to nfc tags ? Love this vid btw ❤️
Most of them are probably 32-64 bytes I'd say, 64 being a very large amount
It may work on iPhone 7 & up, but what version of iOS is required?
This video is from late 2019, so that would have been iOS 13.
Only useful video I found.
Wow! I only just updated from iOS 11 to iOS 14 and thus only just discovered NFC Tags and Automation. I had no idea the two could work together for this purpose, in fact I had no idea what NFC Tags was about. Now I'm just blown away by the possibilities for this.
I mean I could use it to hide my ID (eg. my name, contact details) in objects in order to prove something belongs to me. Just code up a tag, hide it (stick it) in an object and if it anyone says "hey, thats mine" ... I can use my iPhone to prove that its mine.
You could also use it to tag the date of when an item is opened, whether its a food item or other product you use around the house. You can code up an open date and expiry date or whatever.
I have got to get me some tags. :D
This is going to be fun.
Oh wait, there's no NFC option under Settings in New Automation in iOS 14. In fact the layout and options are very different.
Just rewatched the video and maybe we have to scan a blank tag first and then the write option will appear?
Or do we need a 3rd party writer installed first perhaps?
Come to think of it, the Settings section under New Automation at 1:53 appears to be similar to Control Center, therefore it appears that Shortcuts is accessing Control Center in your version of iOS. Possibly?
Which therefore would mean that all we might need to do is launch NFC Scanner from Control Centre, scan a new tag and then perhaps Shortcut or another configuration panel may appear to allows us to proceed with encoding the tag.
Going to have to test out this theory...... unless someone else already has? Will need to get some tags first. :D
I noticed this was installed on my phone on my update yesterday. Can’t really see what it would be useful for yet. As I can just tell Siri to do the things listed in this video without even touching my phone. I’ll keep looking to see if there’s something useful It can do.
Hi Garry, Thank you for your further kind reply. I select short cuts/automation, but I now (i did previously) don't get the the option to select NFC button. It looks like I am somehow locked onto NFC, even after rebooting my IOS? Anyway, when I used to see the apps, I could only see 4 old Hue lighting switches (Not in use now). and nothing else. There is nothing mentioned on your excellent video about Alexa. I have now watched probably every single video on NFC and no one mentions Alexa, or even shows how to turn a light on. I'm excited that Alexa will speak to NFC, but the setting up of same seems to be a well guarded secret so-to-speak🙂. Thank you again for your time replying to me, which is very much appreciated. And once again, a very well made Video. Thank you.
Not sure what you are trying to do. How are you trying to use NFC tags with Alexa? They are not related, as far as I can see. What is it you are trying to do? Maybe I'm missing som context here as you mention a "reply" but this is a new comment and not a reply to anything.
This does not work on iPhone 8 just FYI
I can’t find this in iOS 14
You mean the beta that came out yesterday? Maybe because it is a beta?
macmostvideo yeah probably
@@samm44_ It's not in the official release either. The Automation menu is very different to the one in the video too.
Rick Terscale if you download an app called “NFC Tools” it lets you run a shortcut when you scan a tag
How can I make the iPhone send a NFC code? My workplace uses NFC cards to open doors and I can scan it with my iPhone. However, I‘d like to set an automation if it reads the NFC from the door panel, the phone sends the NFC code from my card.
I don't believe there is any way to do this, though maybe an app developer can build an app that works with your door panel system.
I can‘t find this NFC-Option on my iPhone X. How can I use it although?
iOS 14 it’s in control centre
There should be a tag that unlocks your phone when you scan it. Then if you for some reason forget your password or maybe it got changed you can scan and it will override and unlock. Who else would have that tag ?? No one so that would be amazing
Tnx 4 amazing tutorial again,
Gary one question,
My door 🚪 unlock with NFC and password,
Can I set my NFC tag to my iphone and open my door with my phone instead of using the NFC tag?
Or set my other tag to my phone?
You'd need to consult the documentation for your lock or ask the maker. They would need to build an app. Maybe they already have one.
macmostvideo thank you,
I will search the documentation.
Your guest would have to have the NFC app on order for the wifi to pop up on their phone right?
No, it shouldn't need anything.
iPhone actually suck big time with NFC tags, especially compared to android phones. I had an iPhone 7 before which I could use with NFC using the easyNFC app and that worked fine with most NFC tags. Not just the stickers you are using but also cards and keychain tags. Now I wanted to use native background NFC so I bought an iPhone12Pro last week and man am I disappointed. The only things that more or less work are the sticker tags, the cards and keychain tags are not recognized at all or 1 of out 10 times. Even easyNFC won't recognize them anymore on the iphone12. For my practical uses I tend to have more keychain type of tags than stickers so I am pretty pissed right now. What a fuckup
Will this not work with iPhone X? I have two different NFC rings and the part where you add a shortcut does not even have the NFC option available.
Same, you can only use the shortcuts nfc with all phones newer than iPhone X (I have an IPhone X as well) but my problem is even with the NFC tools app I can’t write to any NFC tags and have my phone or other actually read it without using the app to read it
I hope this can get answered but how do I make the NFC tag readable without having to toggle the option on the control center
Just thrown my NFC tags in the bin.
I have tried to write these tags and they work when I read them through a separate app but I cannot get them to run automatically on other phones. If you could please help me out that would be much appreciated!
question; so I got a tag wrote it with a link but when I approach my iPhone 8 Plus (iOS 13.6) it doesn't do anything... any solutions?
Not sure. I don't have that model to test with.
macmostvideo but it works on my friends Samsung S9, strange..
Can you program your tags so that only you can access the info on the tag and not other people? Also, if you got rid of some old furniture, like an old desk, but you forgot there was an NFC tag attached to it, would other people be able to scan it with their phones to access the information on it? Or can you turn it off remotely?
The only "info" on the tag is a URL. Think of it as a printed URL on a piece of paper, you can't "hide" it from some people and not others. Anyone can read the tag and go to that URL. It is a very simple object.
Now if the URL is removed from the site then the tag becomes useless. Or, if the URL is something that just activates a Shortcut on your iPhone then someone using it without your iPhone wouldn't be able to do anything with that URL anyway.
iPhone XS unfortunately does not work nativity with NFC Tagify. Returning them..
That’s interesting. I’m on 14.6 and don’t have NFC tags on my list. And my list is sequenced differently to yours.
Which "list" do you mean? Which iPhone model do you have?
How do you share this with family?
I'm just starting down the NFC tag path. I"ve easily made my iphone run shortcuts when I tap a tag. So everything works in that regard. But now I want to use a tag in my wallet as a way to hand over my contact information electronically. I'm using the same app you show to write my contact info on a fresh tag. I can then use the app to READ that same tag, and everything is as it should be. But then when I use my own or my daughter's phone to tap the tag.... nothing. Besides writing my contact information to the tag, how to I make it tell a tapped phone to ask to download the contact info?
You can't. iPhones only allow URLs as NFC content when it comes to reading.
@@macmost Dang. Well, thanks for the confirmation so I don't keep thinking there's something amiss! The more I learn about all the neat things I can do with NFC tags, the more limits I discover. Grrr.
I have seen some people using this method to unlock doors with computerized cards by an organization. I have scanned my university card, and still do not know how it will proceed further.
Just watched your great 3 year old video again. My tags are useless. I would never recommend them.
How do I set up the wifi network so it automatically joins the network and logs in? I want to set up an NFC tag for my holiday guests so they can scan the tag while coming into the house.
i have an iphone 8 and it has the latest update but when i go to shortcut it isn’t there, why?
Did you download Shortcuts from the App Store?
macmostvideo yes i did, do i have to download it from somewhere else or download something else?
Swipe up on your home screen right by your screen record it may be right there. That’s where mine was and I didn’t even know what it was until I clicked on it.
Possible to let Siri say ”thanks your now conected to the wifi” if guest wifi? How to do?
iPhone 8plus does not have the NFC option in new automation section
And I am updated to iOS 13.3
I am having the same issue...
same
Same here with 7plus
Thank you! I am looking for NFC-Tags which are compatible with Apple Wallet. Any experiences?
Compatible how? The iPhone only uses URLs for NFC tags, so nothing would work directly on the Wallet app.
Hello!I followed your steps but on shortcuts my iPhone 8 didn’t have “NFC” function! What could I do?
Not sure if that model does.
I have nfc on my iphone 7
There is a great deal of stuff that doesn’t work I have tried the WiFi and it will not do anything which is very frustrating also a few others that doesn’t work
If you find out how let me know as I can’t get wifi to work either
Raveelive I ended up having to install a NFC reader from NXP to be able to do it... not impressed however it works on my 2001 Android phone however iPhone well even with the iPhone 11 you still have to have an app to do it
I wish that I could use an NFC tag to connect an iPhone to Wifi. But some threads on Reddit say that iPhone still doesn't support that. I can WRITE an NFC tag for androids and other devices to use my home Wifi, but I can't make it work for iPhones. What's with that?
I have a iPhone 7.. when I go into shortcuts I don’t have NFC there .. but when I swipe up it’s there .. I’m trying to connect my Sony whch500 headphones but I can’t seem to get one ear working?? Pls help
Hey, this is really interesting. Can I know what type of NFC tag work for iphone. I did the shortcut one and it work just fine, but my phone can’t seem to read or write using the apps that you show. If you could help me out it would be fantastic. Thank you in advance
In order to answer that question you need to provide the model of iPhone and the iOS version you are running
Did you ever get the wifi tag to work???
It doesn't show as an option for me. I only have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi in that group. NFC is missing from the New Automation menu.
I'm using an iPhone 7 Plus iOS 15.6
I think the iPhone 7 is too old for this.
I did write but nothing appers on my iphone. What should I do?
Does the Wifi feature still work?
I'm android user, used NFC Tool to write Wifi onto the tag.
My coworker's iPhone 11 wouldn't read the tag.
It works for myself.
I know his NFC reading works as I created a personal automation for him.
iPhone requires the tag to contain a URL. SO you can do whatever you want, but it must be a URL. So any special function Android has for reading a Wi-Fi password directly from a tag wouldn't work unless it was part of a URL in some way.
OK, so I don't know anything about NFC or anything else and I can prove it! However, this seems like a good deal of work for very little return. Cool, yes. really useful, I guess it depends.
Articulate, Awesome, and Acceptable! That'd be you, Gary. Now to the NFC card/tag. I have a question of clarification. You mentioned, 'as long as they have their phone set up with NFC. Does this mean the recipient must also activate their shortcuts section in order to receive business card information I program into the card, for example? Oh, does iPhone 7 work with this feature? Thanks, MM.
The iPhone just takes URLs, so it most likely won't work as a way to "give" someone your business card. Send them to a web page instead.
@@macmost Thanks for clarifying.
The Wi-Fi thing only works when an android scans it. It does not work for iPhone
My question is,
I want to use this to send someone to all.of my socials (a website w. All the links)
But I want to stick it to the back of my phone.
If I do that will my phone keep trying to scan the tag?
Will it somehow drain my battery like its trying to scan something all day long?
That doesn't sound like a good idea. Maybe just send your links the normal way, using messages or AirDrop, etc? I think you can also get NFC business cards.
