This is seriously the most informative and helpful video on songwriting I have yet found. You're easy to understand and you keep it simple for ignoramuses like me. Thanks so much for posting this. I am writing my first country song, at the age of 55, and had no idea how to go forward. I'm okay at writing the lyrics, but as I'm not a professional musician, I'm struggling with writing the music. Thanks again. This video gives me hope!
Yay! I’m so happy to hear that it was helpful for you :) happy songwriting!!
Just came back to this after all these months. I wrote a song using these tips and I'm so proud of how it is turning out. Still needs some polishing, but I will soon be finished. Hardest thing is finding the courage to trust my instincts, and on top of that, finding the cajones necessary to actually record the thing. Elyse, thanks so much for all of your encouragement. There's still a lot of hurdles to overcome, but it has become "doable" because of this video.
Yeahh!! Thanks so much for the update. Well done Benedict 👍
@@ElyseSaunders Thank you, ma'am. If I'm allowed to make a request, would you please consider doing a similar video, but focusing on melody writing for country songs?
I wrote 3 country songs (lyrics) this past weekend, they’re all awesome and this really helps me know my next moves 😊

I tried to write a songs so many time but no one succeeded. Over 10 songs that I wrote I only sang 3 of'em. But they are written in Filipino and In Our local dialect, I've been struggling to write a country song which is one of my dream and this video is a big help and guide...thank you and merry Christmas
I'm so happy to hear you've found this helpful Sheeraz! I'd love to check out one of your songs when it's available. Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas to you too!
There's part of the problem, you need to write in a language that is more common and more used around the world. Since English is so common in the Philippines I would recommend that language. But, if you're fluent in a language like Spanish or French, those have good markets too. Yes, I'm a BMI songwriter.
Wow, this is amazing. I'm going to share this.
I'm so happy you found it helpful for you!!

Hi, how are you? Happy New
Year. I'm back with a few questions.
I recently wrote out a full song,
without a melody.Can I register a song, without a melody to ASCAP/BMI?
Also.. Can I sell a song, without a melody? And.. finally how do I even begin,
to try sell a song?
Hi Yolanda! Happy New Year!! Good to hear from you. Yes you can! Happy writing :) I would suggest you find someone who writes melody’s within in reach of your songwriting community friends and then treat it like a co-write. You would be 100% lyrics, they would be 100% melody and you would equally split the songwriting credit. I highly recommend you record a professional demo of the song to help sell the idea and then pitch it to artist managers/team. Or find a reputable company to help pitch the song for you. It’s not necessarily easy to sell a song without a strong network first but it’s all doable.
@@ElyseSaunders So nice
to hear from you... Thanks
so much for your reply, and
advice.
I’m from the USA and I didn’t understand what you said to do to protect your song… could you plz tell me again? referring to the copyright stuff
I think you might be asking about ASCAP, check them out. You should register your songs there as soon as you’ve completed a song to show record of date to when the song was written and who wrote on it. If the song gets released, they will collect music royalties for you
You're so beautiful ma'am 💖
Hey Elyse came across the video I love it, I’m a young up and coming country artist from Ireland looking for a break, could I send on a few songs and get some feedback?
Conor OFarrell Hi Conor! I’d love to hear your songs. Do you have a link?
@@ElyseSaunders Hey Elyse thanks so much I don’t have any links but sent some on to you on Instagram!
