+1 on the differential oil changes. Whenever I get my engine oil changed they check the diffs and transfer case. If they need doing it is only about $90 (Canadian) to get each done plus additive if required) so it is well worth it. A LOT cheaper than replacing the gears! You never know the condition inside especially if you run your Jeep through water. Vents, scmhents- ya can't trust 'em.
I feel Jeeps oil life indicator is very accurate. I had a 2023 xtreme recon Rubicon that I did a lot of city driving and idling in. My oil life indicator was at 3% at 5k miles. That is very accurate considering the conditions of stop and go and constant idling.
Thanks for posting these videos. I'm much more interested in what the mechanics actually think and know about the video compared to the sales guys just pointing at the big screen in the vehicle.
Hey Brandon - Our 4XE has been in the shop for a couple of weeks with a coolant leak. Dealer diagnosed and determined it was a leaking engine oil cooler, and the cooler/hoses needed to be replaced. I received a call this morning that replacement hoses for the 4XE don't exist and the Jeep engineering department will have to design a new hose to repair our Jeep... This seems extremely implausible to me with how many Wrangler 4XE's are on the road. Have you heard anything like this before? I know nothing about cars, but doesn't make sense to me at all.... Would love to hear your thoughts!
Great video Brandon. You make allot of valid points. You really do need to go with a mileage based system. And 10k between oil changes is almost asking for trouble. It’s not worth the risk in my opinion. The other great aspect of this video is that with so many people enamored with the electric aspect of this vehicle, the last thing their likely thinking is how expensive the various aspects of maintenance are. At $50 per quart that can get be very expensive. Knowing the approximate costs and when these services need to be performed BEFOREHAND and budgeting for them early on, can go a long way towards easing the pain of an unexpectedly expensive service bill.
Great info to have. Thanks. Any possibility of a video addressing the octane requirement? The standard 2.0 liter turbo recommends 91 but the 4xe only calls for 87. Specifically, is there a performance difference (acceleration / fuel economy) using 87 vs 91 octane in the 4xe?
Maybe I missed it, but you're not clear in the video that the 4xe trans is a lifetime transmission fluid. (however there may be some wisdom to changing the fluid at some point, maybe around 100k mi) Referring to the fluid change interval on the manual transmission may confuse people. My 2023 hybrid supplement does not reference the manual trans, but the big 'all wrangler' manual does. I didn't check, but the 4xe trans. may not even have a dipstick. As you said, it's best to leave anything with the transmission to the dealer / qualified service shop (also the battery / electronics coolant loops. Let the dealer do those, so it's his fault for the warranty). Good job overall, thanks for all the info you provide to the 4xe owners.
Hi @Brandon Haneline I found this on a Jeep forum for a 2014 Wrangler. Can you or any other viewer confirm this works on the 4XE for engine hours? Here is a nifty little trick if you want to see the total number of hours on your engine. Turn the ignition key to run, but don't start it. Then push and hold the trip meter button on the dashboard for about 5 or 6 seconds. It will display the total engine hours. This works on my 2014, and I assume it works on others.
Great video, loads of real life info. The reason for Tesla’s success is their charging station infrastructure, everyone else is playing catch up. My next vehicle will be ICE, until the EV landscape drastically improves. I’m looking forward to many entertaining hours watching your other videos. One question, will the engine charge the battery and how long from battery empty to full charge. New subscriber.
Great Question Paul. Yes the engine will charge the battery at idle or driving. This was though is the most inefficient way of charging. The gas it takes to produce just 1Kw you would t believe. But yes it does charge. It would take around 8.5 hrs of idling to fully charge the battery.
Hi Brandon, I have purchased a Jeep 4xe Rubicon and from day one the maximum range in electric mode is 41 kms / 25.4 miles, I have never reached the promised 50 kms // 31 miles. I have communicated it to the dealer and they still have not given me a solution. Do you have any idea why this problem can happen? thanks in advance. Congratulations on your videos and greetings from Spain
Wow Spain that’s awesome!! Where did you get the information of 50kms or 31 miles. This is not accurate information. Jeep states that you can get 21 miles or 33km. If your getting 25/41 that’s pretty good. I think a uneducated salesman gave you false information. I’m sorry to hear this. It’s very frustrating to hear people paying big money for a jeep under false information.
FYI, 10000 miles is nothing for synthetic. I check via oil wear analysis by sending off to a company. 14,000 (engine miles) is my sweet spot per testing, highway miles mostly.
The oil life indicator on the dash isn’t just set at a certain number of miles, it takes into account operating conditions and will adjust accordingly. I do my oil changes at 5k miles and typically have ~40% left. A couple months ago I was doing a lot of idling so I changed it at a 2k mile interval and only had 56% left.
@@stevesmith9915 I think you mean all non-Rubicon 4xe’s. As someone else stated, all Rubicons have electronic lockers front and rear, so the LSD would not make sense for the Rubicons.
Have you dealt with the dreaded “Fuel & Oil Refresh Mode (FROM) warning light and if so, do you have any tips for making it go away? I’ve tried everything to no avail and the dealership doesn’t have a clue on how to deal with it.
Have 4xe questions?? Feel free to text me personally at 704-459-3087 . Here I can go more in-depth about any of your questions!

Yes that does work on the 2014 Jk. I have tried everything on the 4xe. I’ll give it a shot!!
Thanks Rick. I hope it works.
This is amazing! Thanks!
BTW, Jeep Wave for the 4xe is only in the US. Not sure about elsewhere, but it is not available in Canada.
aswome video 👍,I'm glad I got my regular 2.0 turbo rubicon cuz that's just way to much maintenance

@@BrandonHaneline in fact, the 4xe in China claims it’s 50km. Same 17.3kw batteries. I can’t explain the range difference.
31?? Never heard that number before.
Nice review, got my 4XE last week, great truck.
Sadly the Jeep wave program in Canada works for only Grand Cherokee L so far. This is a new Program for 2021 in Canada

I’ve just seen too many engines fail. I’m going to stick with 7500. That’s great information though.
Awesome video thanks!
Just to be clear, we should be changing the transmission fluid every 30k miles?

When do you replace the timing belt?
So should I never change my trans fluid?
Great video
I'm not sure that any of the 4xe's have the limited slip in the rear axle.
@@BrandonHaneline I just looked at my VIN specific Build Sheet and my Rubicon 4xe does not have limited slip. Do locking axles supersede the LSD?
Available option on all 4xe
I have lsd on my 4xe sahara as an option. All Rubicon have electric lockers.

Yes hit the interstate with 0% battery for around 30 - 45 min. It should take care of it.
