Against who?
@will3pr A wide array of defenses. TB (top 10), CAR (bottom 5), ATL (MID), LAR, NYG and DET (all around 20th-25th I think).
But even in the final 2 weeks, against the best of those defenses (TB and ATL, and two teams fighting for the division with the Saints), he went a combined 6 TD, 0 int., 131.3 passer rating.

I love my Saints and i really like Derek Carr. He got alot of hate and shit last year, and i felt bad for him. I will say this is that he is a great quarterback and this year will be awesome. Just wait.. Let's Geaux ⚜ and DC4 🏈 WHO DAT
I called it a few weeks ago. Carr will set the season completion record this year.
You saw it the last 6 games last year. Despite all the problems, Carr literally willed the Saints offense to play good. He was at another level. He is a tremendous competitor and he took what happened for the first half of last season to heart. He will be on fire this year. He finally has an NFL caliber OC and receivers who went through their growing pains last year. His tremendous arm talent and team leadership will be on full display this year.

If Brady and Mahomes had different coaches and OCs like Carr did, they probably wouldn't have the numbers Carr does.

You are 100% right. You look at all the Hall of Fame QBs and everyone of them had a Hall of Fame coach early in their careers who stayed with them for much of their careers. They owe their trips to the Hall because of coaching as much as talent. Brady had Belichick who has the most super bowls of any coach and has the second most career wins of all coaches, second only to Don Shula. Speaking of the great Don Shula and he has 3 of his QBs in the Hall. Johnny Unitas of Baltimore who was absolutely the greatest QB of the old rules regarding passing, the rules unfavorable to passing. As Dolphin coach, Bod Griese is in the Hall and the incredible Dan Marino too. SF has two in the Hall, Montana and Young, BOTH had HOF Bill Walsh to train and develop them, ALL in the Hall. There are 3 Packer QBs in the Hall. The decade of the 60s under Vince Lombardi, one of the truly greatest coaches of all time, such that the Super bowl trophy is named after him. He coached HOF QB Bart Starr. In the 90s it was Brett Farve and his coach was Mike Holmgren, an offensive genius who will get his trip to the Hall someday. In his 7 years with the Pack he had them in the playoffs 6 years in a row and won a Superbowl. Future Hall of Fame QB Aaron Rodgers had Mike McCarthy who is a future Hall of Fame coach like Rodgers is a future Hall of Fame QB, but Rodgers best years statistically, including 2 straight years as the MVP, were under Matt LeFluer who is currently developing Love into another potential Hall of Fame QB. Mahomes has another future Hall of Fame coach in Andy Reid and do not forget that Andy took Alex Smith, a former no 1 pick of all picks in his draft class, who was a poor performer with the 49ers, and turned him into a 3 time Pro Bowler in his 5 years with the Chiefs and had him passing for well over 3,000 yards a season and one year topped 4,000, where as a 49er under less talented coaching he was mostly in the 2,000s of yards in his passing with the 49ers (under current Charger coach Jim Harbaugh, which is why I don't think he is a good coach by any means). DC had ONE good coach to mentor him, Jon Gruden and we all know the screw job that happened there. But to tout Gruden's record, as a Raider coach the first time he took a so so QB who spent the first 12 years of his career as a back UP QB for several teams and turned him into a beast, winning 4 Pro Bowl honors in a row, and 2 All Pro honors in that stretch and 1 MVP, but with Gruden gone, he sank back into oblivion. I speak of Gannon "the cannon". Anyone would be hard pressed to find a great QB who didn't have a great coach to teach him how to play in the NFL and build an offense around him. Bottom line skelderon64, you are 100% right and brandonbrown1908 is 100% wrong.

It is so often overlooked, but not by us serious fans that pay attention to the intangibles. It is the stat called Comebacks/Game Winning Drives. When the game is waning in the 4th quarter and your team needs a score to win, does your QB find a way to get it done?
in his 7 seasons, Mahomes has 16. Carr in his first 7 seasons has 25, 9 MORE than Mahomes. Mahomes has one of the greatest coaches of all time in Andy Reid. Carr has had a succession of head coaches and OCs in a never ending revolving door and with the exception of Gruden, they were not good coaches. With much better coaching, Mahomes has done considerably worse in the comeback department than Carr. Are you to seriously suggest that Mahomes would do better with crappy coaching?
In fact in his 9 years with the Raiders Carr had 35 game winning drives, including two seasons where he engineered 7 of them that got his team into the playoffs. In the history of the NFL there has NEVER been a QB with 35 game winning drives in his first 9 years. In fact there is only ONE QB who in his total career has a contiguous 9 years that comes close to Carr. That is the Hall of Fame Peyton Manning who had a stretch in the middle of his 16 year career where he had 34. Brady has never come close in his incredibly long and storied career. Aaron Rodgers? He's only managed 31 in his entire 19 year career, 4 less than Carr's first 9 years. Carr stands alone and had those other QBs had Carr's struggles with coaches, they would never have achieved what Carr achieved because they haven't done it with their great coaches. It would be insane to think they would do better with crappy coaching. SO he is right. II believe Carr would have several Superbowls under his belt right now if he'd had the coaching staff those greats have had, and a defense that finished better than 16th (the best year they had when Carr was there), and better than finishing in the bottom 1/4th of the NFL defenses every year Carr was there. He is the Captain Comeback of all QBs and the idiotic Raiders let him go after all he did for that franchise.

They were on the fence at one time, but were pulled over to the 100% rebuild side when other local media people convinced them that Carr was not the answer. Not only that, a rebuild is not even financially possible, considering the dead money. And they wonder why the Saints are in Cali, to get away from the toxic Saints fans.

I know at least 5-6 playoff contenders that would pick up Carr in a heartbeat.
Rookie QBs are great for a couple of quarters but seasons tend to snowball against them.
Carr is a serious pro and I think people underestimated how thin the NO offense really was.
And that’s not an opinion you just have to look at the stats that the QB has little to no impact on and see how poorly they ranked.
I believe Carr was the only offensive player that ranked top ten in his position in the league last year.
Primary and second level blocking was the worst I’ve ever seen.

As a Gamecock fan, while I can't wait for Spencer to show his talent in the NFL, I agree that he is far better off sitting behind a veteran for a season or two and polishing his game even more. That said, Spencer is very smart, very mature and composed on the field, and with that arm I wouldn't be surprised if he finishes the season as the starter. Whether due to an injury or Carr's inconsistency. I think Spencer will fare better once the Saints put some better talent on the field around him, but given how impressive Rattler looked at times in leading a comeback win in his first preseason game, the drumbeat for him to start will only get louder from some segments.

Saints fan here, no I'm not really big on Carr but to say Rattler should have his job is a total airhead take. They seem to be getting along well at camp and Carr certainly is a guy you'd want a rookie QB to learn and develop under.

Carr is an amazing human being in my eyes, but he’s a average/mediocre NFL quarterback. He’s never going to win a ring. We forget how hard it is to win one, Randy Moss is a legend and hasn’t won one. The raiders been a dumpster fire for a min. Carr still was consistent throughout. I still don't get how McDaniels gets so many opportunities to not only coach, but make GM moves
Winston is gone so he won't be an issue, just get the offensive line in order and the Saints will be playoff bound. The line at the beginning of the season looked AWFUL, were getting Carr killed... fix it and everything else will fall into place.
I expect Derek Carr to play oit the season. I get it. Still ... I'd like to see the Saints tackle the salary cap problem by cutting an overpriced, average (but competent) QB and taking on an economical rookie QB contract for 4-5 years. I would be interested to see the Saints give their QB a 4-5 year term limit, trade him inntue penultimate year, and use the pick to get a rookie QB with talent and use the savings to bolster the offensive line, upgrade the receiving corp, and strengthening the defense. Take the hit with cutting Carr, fix the salary cap, roll the dice on a promising rookie, and don't settle for ... mediocrity and a 9-8 record. Id rather see them take a chance on a rookie and miss than settle for being one game out of the playoffs every year.
I like Rattler, hes a good QB but he needs to be a little mentally stronger which I think he can overcome. I followed him at OU for a while and he sometimes let bad decisions get in to his head. He just needs to have a short memory and let INTs and other decisions just go. I was glad to see him go play for Beamer, and now He is at the Saints while my other OU QB is at the Bucs. Unless Carr does really poorly this year or something happens during a game I do not see Rattler getting much of a chance. I would like to see him get some good play and then in the next year or 2 get on to a good team for real chance to start, because Carr has quite a few more years behind him if he stays healthy and good.
The timeline is perfect for Rattler. In a year a 2 the saints will have a decision to make on if they want to extend Carr’s contract or give Rattler a chance.
Rattler needs to develop….i think he will be good, IN THE FUTURE.

Aint no rookie gonna unseat a seasoned vet like Carr. Hes just got too much experience and IS a good QB...especially when you look at his numbers. Even with a disappointing but winning season last year...Carr was NOT the problem. It would be great if we could legitimately say Spencer was in a legit QB battle for QB 1...but that aint the case. Maybe in a year or 2 when hes got more experience and confidence and learns the offense and speed of the NFL...but not as of 1 training camp? Look I’m from New Orleans. I go to all their camps and let me tell you somethin Haener is 10 times a better quarterback than rattler. Yes, he might have a better arm than Haener but smartness goes to Haener the quarterback football IQ. There’s only two players that scored a 97 one of them, Haener the other one is Joe Burrow. They are the best two smart quarterbacks in the NFL right now. They made the highest score on the quarterback test. Yes Haener is going to be the number two rattler will be a good quarterback in the future but nothing right now so get over this talk.
