The Cap management strategy they adopted for the end of Bree’s’ career isn’t something you flip back to in one season, like everyone who criticizes it seems to think. I would also argue, that getting the balance sheet back to zero or below might not even be the best strategy for using the maximum amount of resources to build a team. If the owners fine with that, there’s zero reason for the fanbase to complain, it doesn’t effect what they can or cannot do In really anyway, other than moving on from multiple players at the exact same time. They have to space out, moving in from players with large contracts & money pushed into future. Jordan, Davis, HoneyBadger, Hill, AK, Ram & Carr. Ram willl retire next season & they already reduced Cam & HoneyBadgers contracts. At the end of the day, they had 2 options, take massive Cap hits over 2 seasons & barely be able to even field a team, most likely winning only a couple days, OR, the plan they chose, a staggered reset over about 5 seasons, that allows them to remain competitive and if things work out, they’ll have the same chance to make a run in the playoffs as 90% on the NFL, still giving their Vets like Cam & Davis an opportunity in the twilight of their careers. This IS the best strategy for their Players, Fans & Ownership. Carmichael didn’t know how to call run plays and the O line was so weak at it even when they were ran it was basically the running back against the whole D line. Kubiak has already been working on far more run plays in camp especially around the full back. I expect the run play numbers to go up. I don’t know how much but more
Overall great points, but slight pushback on the GM salary cap mechanics comment. They started this max salary short term view as Brees aged and Payton wanted to try for it all, instead of it being those two covering for it this whole time. One can say they should have stopped when he retired, but ownership has a lot of say in whether they want to accept that type of embarrassing play for a year or two

Seems like ever since the Saints were robbed in that playoff game against the Rams, they haven’t been the same. They’ve had talent, but never a complete team. And Injuries didn’t help either.
There is a lot I disagree with in this video. Mostly all of the national talk analysis which gets a lot wrong about this team. We have an upgraded team from last season. We lost the tie breaker to get into the playoffs. No reason to think the falcons which have been extremely mid for 10 years now will all of a sudden win the division because they upgraded their QB position with an aging QB that is coming off of a major injury. Don't count the Saints out of playoff talk even at a 9-8 record because that can win this division, look at the bucs last season. Go listen to some local analyst shows and you will get a very different feel to this team.

How is this roster the least inspiring in the NFL? The Panthers are literally next door in the same division. Are the Titans inspiring? The Giants? I dont see how they are in the same category.
The QB situation for the Panthers and Titans is more inspiring. Will Levis showed flashes and I think Bryce will have a big bounce back season. Giants are imo very similar to the Saints
The Saints for the first time in forever, they didn’t spend a ton of money in free agency. Their big free agency signing was a 1 year, 13 million dollar contract to Chase Young which was really a 1 year 3.5 million. They also drafted for needs, and for future needs for a change. Lattimore is likely out the door sometime in the next two years, Carr is a contract they can get out of in two years, Ramczyk is likely to retire, Cam Jordan will retire after this year, and Alvin Kamara is likely to get an incentive based contract. People overlook the fact this is now a competitive rebuild, which is exactly what the Vikings have been doing since 2019. I think their situation is completely overhated, and it’s not impossible to get out of.
Respectfully, max out the cap and never plan ahead is simply wrong. It took a pandemic to derail the Saints way of doing business. The bill never comes due as long as the cap continues to rise (which it does every year). As long as they can avoid another pandemic there is no difference between the way the Saints do business and any other team.
I just believe that the offense that Pete Carmichael had was not a good offense. I can see how klint Kubiack helps our offense. I feel like we could be a sneaky good team. We can probably win the division.
The Saints are the most purgatory team in the NFL. They don't wanna rebuild no matter what so it's like why bother? Also remember when Saints fan thought for sure they would make the playoffs? 😂
Spot on analysis. The Saints feel the epitome of the 16th / 17fh best team in the NFL. 8 - 9, 9 - 8. Worst case scenario is age catchs up to their core, they bottom out, dump Dennis Allen and are forced to rebuild. Best case scenario, they stay healthy and lean on veteran leadership to comfortably win the NFC South, and make a surprsingly deep run in the post season in an unpredictable NFC. Likleist scenario? Hover around 500, snag a wildcard spot or barely miss out. I am leaning towards them making the post - season. Dennis Allen is imo, a great DC who shouldnt be an HC, but there is something to be said about continiuty.
The Vikings never transitioned from a HOF coach and Qb the Saints are in a transition from 20 years of sustained success they not gon just tear that down and start over they gon build on what they have and thats their philosphy wheather we agree or not
8:36 The rest of the video is right. Dont get the Lattimore criticism tho. When on the field he has the ceiling of a top 5 corner ITL. Year 8 yes, but he was a young rookie. As long as the injury bug doesnt hit. He is that guy.
I think if the saints are above .500 at Week 8, I think the saints will pull the plug on Dennis Allen. Pete is gone so that’s gotta count for something right…..RIGHT?
If Dennis Allen will let the offense flow and focus on D I think the Saints could surprise people our secondary is lights out , Linebackers are solid and I'm hoping the D Line rotation improves with young in the mix but this team is. D team I can be honest and say the O line is concerning

I expect the Saints to be just below average again this year. As a fan, I'm hoping they tank the season so Allen will have to be fired. It may be time for Loomis to move on as well. He's been with the team since 2000.
That doesn't make any sense. Allen has 2 fewer wins than Payton did in his first 2 seasons with the Saints, and Payton had a FAR better roster. The only thing Allen has that was better than that 2006 team is the defense. Well, he's the REASON the defense is better. He made a smart decision in firing Carmichael and the rest of the offensive staff. Then, he made a great decision bringing in Kubiak to fix the scheme and the offense. I was a DA hater at 1st, but if you can't see that they're actually making solid moves, I don't know what to tell you. Most solid teams are built this way. A head coach who is either a defensive or offensive specialist that hires the opposite as a coordinator. Reid has Spagnuolo, Payton had Williams and Allen, Bowles had Canales, Dan Campbell has Ben Johnson. Hopefully, Kubiak works out, because DA has that defense cookin'. 🤷🏿♂️👍🏿⚜️

One can say they should have stopped when he retired, but ownership has a lot of say in whether they want to accept that type of embarrassing play for a year or two
Unless you're over the age of 35 I feel like a lot of these young commentators write off athletes in their late 20s to early 30s. There is no concern. Those players are still in their prime and unless they sustained major injuries they will perform just as well or better than a 24 year old. It's like you forget these are top athletes not 33yo suburban dads.

People talking about the cap havent been following the saints the last couple years every year the cap is like -100 mil and people freak out, then they rework contracts and stuff and then theyre under. Kicking the can down the road works when the salary cap is ever increasing, as well as getting rid of some contracts and future contracts like with trey hendrickson. Micky Loomis has been the GM since 2002 i think he knows what hes doing
The dolphins were also terrible vs playoff teams, so were the cowboys. I’d argue their future is even more concerning because their QBs will get paid big
Difference is dolphins have a top 5 coach while the cowboys have top end talent. The saints have neither.
@@aintnoway8594 how is McDaniel a top 5 coach? They have a top 5 front office for sure, but they seem outcoached against every playoff team they face. Cowboys have top talent for now, but I’m not sure they’ll do after they pay dak, ceedee and micah

The QB situation for the Panthers and Titans is more inspiring. Will Levis showed flashes and I think Bryce will have a big bounce back season. Giants are imo very similar to the Saints

We haven’t even tried to rebuild since Drew left. Instead of mediocrity every year I’d rather just tank and draft a QB. So frustrating

The Vikings never transitioned from a HOF coach and Qb the Saints are in a transition from 20 years of sustained success they not gon just tear that down and start over they gon build on what they have and thats their philosphy wheather we agree or not
1 loosing season and 2 winning seasons ok bud this team has been siffering from the injury bugg since 2021
8:36 The rest of the video is right.

My Saints will be mediocre as long as Dennis Allen is the head coach. I don't know why he wasn't fired other than ownership seems to like him.
They also lost Michael Thomas…

Nobody wanted winston to get in, the times he did he lost all the games, including a 17-0 lead in the 3rd quarter, he was so bad thst carr was forced to play Injuried against the bucs

Our offense was our issue with Pete he never should of got the play calling job after SP left. If everyone can stay healthy kubiak will unlock the offense and Carr can be a good game manager for us and get us into the playoffs again. He showed improvement down the stretch last season and just needs a guy like kubiak. Also in regards to our future we’ve got plenty of building blocks, Olave, Shaheed, A.T, Bub Means, Fuaga, Kendre Miller, Kool Aid, Adebo, Tae Taylor, Howden breakout candidate at safety, granderson is the most underrated edge in the league and will be another age less guy like demario where he’ll age like fine wine, who knows what we got in foskey, turner I’m happy to say is a bust mainly due to his injuries, Bresee, Khristian Boyd could become a steal to, Ford at lb will be another steal to. The saints are not bad truly in every game. The offensive coaching change is gonna make huge differences in this team. You guys with the doom and gloom bullshit. They are in a better place than lots of teams.
I'm a falcons fan and I don't see us winning the division. I see us starting out 4-0 maybe 5-0 against some good teams and getting a lot of hype but then losing 4 of the next 5 and being 6-4 or 5-5 losing against bad teams and losing key players to injury they then lose 4 or 5 of the last 7 to go 8-9 or 7-10 to finish 2nd to whoever it may be NO or TB who win the division by a game or win via a tie breaker better division record of 4-2 to ATL's 3-3 cause we couldn't beat any of them twice
