Battle buddies are often closer to you than your outside friends. Being treated like garbage together and doing pointless details together means an unbreakable bond.
We were assigned battle buddies by alphabetical order when I was joined up. But some people were reassigned to be battle buddies on the drill sergeants whims. Like two females named (last names) Gass and Grubbs were reassigned because it amused one of the drill sgts to yell "Gass and Grubbs" and give them random tasks to complete. Another time a drill sgt realized we had three guys with food names (Hamm, Corn, and Plumb) and would yell, "Where's my mighty tasty meal?" and all three had to come running.
My first Battle Buddy was Puerto Rican, and I could barely understand him, but I got used to his accent. He had an allergy to Acetaminophen (Tylenol). Someone gave him some for a headache and he started having a reaction. He ended up going to the Hospital. I was not as able to do work without him for the simple fact that he was gone. You're joined at the hip for most of your day to day life. Now you will have two "Battles" because your Battle is elsewhere. I carried it over to my Unit that deployed to Kosovo, and everyone in my Squad was my Battle. We experienced a lot of weird stuff together: Driving into a Minefield and backing up in the same tracks to avoid going boom. Riots. Blown up Towns and Villages. Murders of local residents. R&R =)

We had two females "run away" while we were bivouacking. They were found a day later, about a mile away, walking into a range that was about to start live firing. We couldn't believe they walked in circles for 24 hrs and then walked onto a firing range in broad daylight. This was at Ft. Leonardwood.
We were assigned a "battle buddy" by our drill sergeant, but at the time (summer of 1981), we weren't required to be together all of the time. For example, we could go to the latrine anytime during the night alone. We were generally together when we were on the obstacle course, during some of the common task training, occasionally on the rifle range, or during certain PT exercises. I believe it varied depending upon the commander. I realize it's totally different now.
My brother is in the Navy and he actually went to AIT with his battle buddy from basic. It was actually pretty funny cause whenever we went to visit or he came to see us. He always had his battle buddy with him, just kinda became a thing we got use to. We would even send care packages to both of them. Sadly his buddy ended up being moved to a different base after AIT and my brother stayed. But we still keep in contact with his buddy and he is supposed to be making a trip to visit us when my brother comes up before he gets moved to a different base.
In basic training (idf) a friend from other platon told me that friends from the army are like family because you dont choose them. For me when i meet this guys i am really happy. But i need to move forward from my days in the army.
As of now you’ve helped me decide on enrolling for 4 years and being in reserves after my term is up. However can you do a dieting/exercise video for reserve members. I understand dieting is different for everyone but a basic do’s and dont’s list of how we should eat while being in reserves? Maybe include some simple or interesting ways to keep active and in better shape too
Fort benning is probably the worst place for BCT. You probably will get smoked more there than say LW, because all the infantry people go there. And your training is OSUT, that is even worse.

Title: *What is a Battle Buddy?*
Me: A battle buddy is a buddy who is a buddy in your battles.
A battle buddy is someone that shows up just at the right time with just the right medicine you need. Then disappears
A battle buddy is not Wally the walrus
Which is either 1 of the Same Gender or 2 of the Opposite Gender
Battle buddy is also a policy in AIT that makes u wanna hate ur life
Our AIT won't allow 2 to 1 ratio, but in covid, we have single file lines so long theres sometimes 10 males and 3 females all walking together

Question Matt is the medical program for the army better then the navy program? Because I want to be a 18-D but after that I want to go in to the medical field.

Hey Matt im a big fan and I just wanna ask you a question. So I went to meps last week and got a temporary disqualified for hearing in my right ear. They sent a waiver to the army and do you know what the chances are of them accepting me in?
I know this is pretty late, but did you ever end up figuring it out?
@@russell4880 so sadly I didn’t get a waiver to get into the army but I was told if I have a successful contract with the navy I could get a waiver so rn I’m on a navy contract
@@ImCivility that's good to hear, I hope all goes well for you
