PSI: S Goods: S Bash: A Run Away: B Defend: C Pray: C Auto Fight: D PSI Freeze: S PSI Shield: A PSI Fire: A PSI Magnet: B PSI Offense Up: C PSI Thunder: C PSI Defense Down: D The top list are the options that I get everytime I do a solo Paula challenge and the lower list are Paula's PSI moves. These are my tier lists, based on practically for a solo Paula gamer and how often I will recommend using these moves. All of Paula's moves are between S tier and D tier with S tier being beyond super practical and D tier not being practical at all. A solo Paula game without PSI and goods seem impossible to complete and that is why those two options get an S. Bash is a way to get around psychic shields and psychic power shields, attack non-threat enemies without using PSI points and with a combination of teddy bears, pizzas and status buffs with offense up, you can physically bash Mondo Mole for roughly 65 HP damage almost every time. With thunder beta, you can potentially deal 240 HP damage in one turn, but the hit rate of thunder is terrible, so it may still be better to bash. That is why bash is still A tier, despite not being Paula's strong point. Sometimes, you may need to run away from enemies. If you get a surprise attack advantage and you feel like you need to conserve PSI points for later use, just run away. Unfortunately, if you run away, you miss out on experience and money and that is the downfall that keeps the run away option from being any higher than B tier. Defend if you have lots of HP while feeling strange until an enemy physically attacks you. You will take some damage, but you will also feel better. That is the only situation that keeps the defend option out of D tier and into C tier. Pray if you have a zero percent chance of winning without that move. Otherwise, forget about the pray command. Unique situations will keep the pray command out of D tier and into C. There is one option left and that is to auto fight, giving up your control over the protagonist to a computer. Humans outsmart computers on a regular basis and that is why the auto fight option is D tier. Comment below if you would like to rank Paula's moves differently.
Fun fact: you can actually beat Mondo Mole, using only Paula without fighting the bosses out of order, but it literally takes the patience of a saint through level grinding and pizza delivery. I would not recommend fighting the mole at that moment, if you are trying to do your Paula run at a fast pace and I even did some cheats to make it happen: getting Ness in my party to call his mom, so that Paula can call Escargo Express and have them pick-up teddy bears in Twoson and deliver them in Happy Happy Village. Getting the phone number from Mach Pizza becomes a must because at that point, pizza is the most powerful food item you can get for battling Mondo Mole. Also, keep levelling up. I was not yet lucky enough with PSI Thunder until after I have unlocked Thunder beta, the second level spell beyond alpha. A combination of patience, luck, and beta spells is what will finally put the mole away. PSI Magnet can be useful, too. I also had the sound stone and receiver phone in Ness' bag, instead of Paula's, to make it easier to beat Mondo Mole, using only Paula. If she is the leader of your party, instead of Ness, she can explore most Sanctuary locations, regardless of whether she has the sound stone or not. At that point, she had a fry pan, a copper bracelet, an ATM card that she was not suppose to have, a ribbon, and the other ten items were a combination of teddy bears and pizzas. I think I had six teddy bears and four pizzas. While level grinding, I was using cruissants and fighting without teddy bears. The pizzas and teddy bears were only being used while going for the boss to save some time and money, since I was waiting three whole minutes everytime I got another pizza and spending $178 everytime I got another teddy bear. Those items are not cheap. I finally had the mole defeated at a level, where I should have already been in Saturn Valley. That was a pain in the butt monster. Lesson learned about using only Paula: feel free to fight Mondo Mole out of order if you are trying to speed up the game. Also, when fighing the two-on-one between Giygas and Pokey vs Paula, try carrying an ATM card, a Saturn ribbon, a sea pendant, a rabbit's foot, a Franklin badge, a goddess band, a holy fry pan, and seven brain food lunches. Max level Paula, so that you can run away from the enemies in that last dungeon, since those guys are tough. Also, make sure you have the rabbit's foot equipped when you face Pokey and Giygas. Use PSI Shield alpha when facing Giygas' PSI Rockin moves. With a rabbit's foot, you have an easier chance of dodging Pokey's charge attack. Just make sure that you are equipping the sea pendant on your very next move after Pokey has done his speech, since Giygas has an omega flash that can one hit kill you in his second form. As long as you have advanced to the second form of Giygas with a sea pendant equipped, a Franklin badge wielded, ample HP and ample PP, you should be getting lucky from there on out. Try to have brain food lunches to spare. Those would help. Keep casting those Freeze spells on Giygas' second form until Pokey comes back to make another speech, then you can start praying.
This is what I did when playing as Paula in EarthBound: The Department Store Spook attacked! Paula tried PSI Shield beta. Paula was protected with a psychic power shield. The Department Store Spook tried PSI Freeze alpha. The psychic power shield reflected the attack. 113 HP damage to the Department Store Spook! Paula tried PSI Freeze omega. 554 HP damage to the Department Store Spook! The Department Store Spook was defeated and Paula won the battle! Normally, the Department Store Spook kidnaps Paula from Ness and Jeff. It looks like the Spook has overlooked that Paula can use his own moves against him with that PSI Shield beta move.
Maybe i'll make a part 2, but no promises. Need to get the motivation first. I already finished the challenge and have the raw footage of it, all that's left is to edit it (which can take a week or 2).
I think the reason why the game lets you fight the guardian without Ness is because it doesn't check if Ness is in the party, but if Ness is alive, aside from the one of the shrooom
And I thought Ness by himself was difficult because I use to always struggle with the gangsters and the sanctuary enemies but once Paula joined everything got a bit easier
5:25 Paula: Uh, can i have some steak so i can recover my PP? Ness’ Mother: You’re welcome to our home, it’s nice you guys are working together. Paula: *triggered*
This option on the debug menu allows you to be anywhere at anytime and even people with teleport can be in a place that they are not suppose to be in. I have used this to get Paula into Twoson at a time when she was not suppose to be there. This was at the beginning of one of my Paula games. I had her in Twoson for a brief moment that lasted as long as it took to go into the department store, withdraw money, sell Ness' cracked bat, buy and equip a fry pan for Paula, then I had her back in Onett to do all that stuff that Ness normally does. The fry pan would help Paula defeat level one and level two enemies without using PSI, since her PSI is limited at this point and she has no such resources at this point as rest stops and PP recovery items. Talking to Ness' mom for rest is a Ness exclusive thing, so Paula does not get to do that. This fry pan would tide Paula over until she could freeze up Mr. Carpainter, head back to Twoson, and take the Runaway Five tour bus to Threed, where she could buy a bigger fry pan.
Guys stop talking about strategic things and think about facing against Ness's Nightmare at Part 2. Psychic Power Shield and Quickly Victory! It's what he deserves. Bcs he took risk
