I have used this recipe so many times and it ALWAYS comes out perfectly! I moved from the Northeast to the south and here they only have a white sauce with shrimp but growing up in Boston (China Town) iI grew accustomed to THIS style...I would BEG family coming for a visit to PLEASE freeze and bring to Florida for me...(how tacky)...lol How happy I am now to make my own, thanks Gambo!
Yes I'm from Boston! I thought it was prepared this way everywhere until I tried to find a recipe 😅
Also from Boston missing our lobster sauce 😂❤
@@Fani.ladomi Also from Boston and find the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce here in the South a pale imitation of the dish I grew up with. Luckily I still have a copy of Joyce Chen's cookbook with the recipe for the real thing.
Im from Boston and thats how I make it , well very similar .videos just posted now come and check it out !!
@@daimyotwoblunts9614 This shrimp with lobster sauce is southern China. The white version is common in Chinatowns and is the Mandarin version.
Brown/black Lobster sauce is the only way to go!
One of my favorite Chinese dishes. I know it isn't authentic Chinese but it tastes good regardless. Gambo's looks amazing. Everything he cooks looks so good. Not like all the takeout Chinese places that offer bland food.
AWESOME OLD SCHOOL CANTONESE SHRIMP WITH LOBSTER SAUCE!!!!!!! They just don't make it like this anymore.
There is still ONE place in WA state that does this dish the old fashioned way! The Red Lotus in Auburn, WA. They are the last of 4 restaurants that were owned by the same person in the 70's. The Prawns in Lobster Sauce is exactly like this and delicious!!
I love all your recipes ,they are delicious and so authentic. Bless you for sharing them !
I see a lot of people asking why lobster is in the name. This dish was develped in America by Chinese immigrants from Toishan county as many early Amercan immigrants were from there. In Toishan, lobster is traditionally cooked this way. Thus a more accurate name may be "Shrimp with traditional lobster style sauce". The main ingredients are shrimp, ground pork, fermented black beans, garlic, and eggs, and usually green onions. Most restaurants nowadays take a short cut and skip the ground pork, the black beans, and often even the garlic. I've been disappointed everytime I've ordered it in restaurants for the last 20 years. Gotta make it at home to do it right.
Peter,
I got the same results from many restaurants. I think some restaurants in SF Chinatown still cook the same old dish.
Go to Boston, that's how they cook it and the only way I can eat it.
@@antneyfatts665 Yes, you are right as OTR truck driver can say Boston area has best of best exactly this recipe.
You are correct, fermented black beans is a must. I am a third generation Toisanese in America and that is the way the old timers cooked it.
Thomas Hom the fermented black beans comes in a bottle? I want to try and make this.
Let me start by saying you have made me the most happiest person!! I lived in Chicago and fell in love with this dish from old China town and I moved to the west coast and they don’t make Chinese food here like they do in the East coast so this has made me happy and now I’m going to the Asian market to pick up the ingredients and I’ll post how it goes!! Thank you!!
Also from the East Coast/Boston and can't find this style anywhere in Los Angeles. I will be cooking myself also. So weird that this style just got lost here in CA. Makes no sense.
Just made it...I still need to tweak it a little but it turned out kinda like it I didn't put enough water I was like two cups is too much? But I will add it next and theirs gonna be a next time for sure! ☺️
This is the REAL recipe ! Thanks
Thats the right Shrimp with Lobster Sauce!!! In Southern US they make that clear BS! Reminds me of Chinese Chef in Milwaukee, WI on Appleton Ave. Thank you so much for sharing so I can make it myself!
Agreed!!! I'm from the midwest too! This is the BEST WAY
I don't know what you're talkin about there are plenty of restaurants that serve it the way it was made in this video. The restaurant you go to it's probably bunk.
It turned out great. This is my wife’s favorite!
Best recipe ever! Thanks so much for sharing.
Wonderful looking plate....Thank you for sharing..Cheers Jeff
Turned out excellent! Thank you!
+Shadowmyst Myst Awesome!

My favorite dish. Thanks
Looks very nice.
sounds great to me I will try it, yummy
I have been wanting to learn this forever thank you for a simple and realistic video
This is True Cantonese style, That clear broth style doesn't even have any flavor, Taste like egg drop soup.
Joe jeans oh my gosh you are exactly right!! I tried to get a Chinese cook to make it with the black bean and I didn’t know all the ingredients but it tasted like egg drop soup with black beans lol 😂
THANK YOU. I'm making this tonight!!!
that looks so good.Wish i ah a plate of it now
I don't care that he uses similar ingredients. That's how korean food is but still tastes great! I made his moo shu the other day and it was really good.
My favorite.....Cant wait to make this!!!!!!!
I've been eating this dish since I was 9 yrs old.....Place by my house called ...shong hey....
It always tasted the same.....I'm 44 now and the chinese place is still there serving the same great food.....Thanks for this video again!!!!
thanks ..that looks so good ! I could never quite figure out the certain taste...is it the oyster sauce that does it !?
Looks yummy
Finally someone who KNOWS how to make Lobster sauce !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes. Thisiswhat I grew up with. Thanks much
My favorite dish!
My husband’s favorite dish. I’ll have to make this for him...
thanks you, love it
+Mia tj your welcome mia
Good recipe!
If this guy was my dad, I'd be having a feast everyday xD
This is how I like shrimp in lobster sauce.
Excellent....Cheers Jeff
Gumbo, you make this the best of all other cooking shows , Sue is also a great cook easy to follow , she makes it look easy
What type of soy sauce do you use?
I think the shrimp is overcooked at this time
When you cook the pork you got rid of the fond out of the bottom of the pan is there a reason for that
still the best tasting Gumbo
Every lobster sauce I had always had onions. It adds the crunch to the sauce.
Can you use beef mince instead of the pork? Can't use pork due to dietary restrictions. Thanks!
How can I reheat your recipe if I have refrigerated leftovers as I would
like to again get that flowing Lobster sauce since it got very thick in the
refrigerator.
Also what is the best way to reheat refrigerated white rice?
Thanks so much!
ravenblackhawke reheat it on the stove top in a pan...not microwave.
Can you substitute the water with chicken stock instead? Can you saute the pork with the garlic & ginger? Thank you!
hi here's the updated link to the written recipe: sueandgambo.com/shrimp-with-lobster-sauce-2/
This guy likes corn starch.
It looks nothing like the one I order at a Chinese restaurant, but this one does look good. Have to give this a try.
🙌💣🙌
Having cooked Chinese for 35 years and now watched a few of your videoes, just a word of advice: there ARE other ingredients to put in Chinese food beside white pepper and oyster sauce lol.
you can stuff your advice in a sack, mister
Ya ok white boy
Seriously shut the fuck up. Like anyone would take an ignorant white dudes advice about authentic Chinese food as opposed to advice from an actual Chinese person.

Didn’t see the lobster go in it by the way!
Shrimps not lobsters
This is a good recipe. The only addition I would make with it is to add chopped water chestnuts to add a little crunch to its texture.
Real recipe
Cantonese
This guy didn’t looks so good the way he cook! OMG
That's the real deal....Only way it should be made...No white sauce or anything else
Why only egg whites? Too many steps for that dish. Looks amazing. Taaasty.
why call lobster sauce and nothing to do with lobster?
Son Pham the pork acts like imitation lobster. The seafood taste comes off the shrimp making the pork taste like lobster
Why is a chocolate soda called an Egg Cream? Who knows the origin of foods, just eat and appreciate it!
Because they use a very similar sauce on lobster tails... it's some old Cantonese-style recipe.
Why is it called lobster sauce?
the best!!! the white one sucks!
Never seen shrimp with lobster sauce this dark. Always thought it had a light color to it and they put just the egg whites instead of the whole egg.
subtitles are useless this time...XD
Nothing in your ingredients say about Lobster
Every dish this guy makes uses all the same ingredients. This is the epitome of boring Westernized Chinese takeout.
Dont like it, move to china
