Shrimp with Lobster sauce| OLD TIME FAVOURITE

    Shrimp with lobster sauce
    The dish was never prepared with actual lobster. The name was invented in North America, to resemble a Cantonese dish that used a very similar sauce in preparing lobster. Due to the high cost of lobster, today we prepared the dish with shrimp, and call it Shrimp prepared with 'lobster' sauce.
    Serves: 2 people
    Prep time: 20 minutes
    Ingredients:
    3/4 lb. of Large shrimps
    2 Egg white
    A handful of snap peas
    2 cups of Seafood broth or chicken broth
    2.5 TBSP of cornstarch
    2 cloves of garlic, minced
    Scallions for garnish
    4 TBSP of cooking oil
    Marinade shrimp with:
    1/2 tsp of salt
    1/2 tsp garlic powder
    For the sauce:
    1 tsp of vegetable/ no msg chicken powder
    1 TBSP Shao Xing wine
    1/2 tsp of white pepper
    1/2 tsp of salt
    1/2 tsp of sugar
    1 tsp of sesame oil
    This is a very simple and healthy dish to make especially if you used peeled and deveined shrimps.
    This was a popular dish in all Chinese restaurants in the '80s.

    I love the snap pea version I used to eat this all the time as a child. I'm 73 years old. I'm happy to have the recipe.

    I just made this! OMG!!!!! Delicious! Just wondering. I won't put oyster sauce or hoisin or black bean sauce in it because it will look very dark! But it needs more flavor. Maybe some thad fish sauce? Maybe more sesame oil? Still need to play with it a TINY bit more. Any thoughts? I drizzled the foamy egg white into it-Amazing!

    Hi Lina!!! Please please make Lobster Cantonese with lobster in it's shells. Like Queens, New York did it years ago. Ground pork. Thick delicious sauce.

    Wonderful simplicity and skill! A blessing of a video and delightful culinary discovery. Just 2 questions. Does the egg white actually thins out the sauce? How come you don't use baking soda on the marinated shrimp earlier in the video? I noticed lots of videos put baking soda on the shrimp. Why did you not do this? Just asking! Thank you!

      Hello. I am so sorry for the kate reply. The egg whites actually makes the sauce a bit thicker.
      The use of baking soda is a personal one. Some people prefer not to. It will make the shrimps more crisp
      However if you choose white shrimps, you don't really need it. They are crisp already. Not mushy. Hope I answered your questions. Thanks so much for watching.

    Can shrimp skins in a pot od chicken broth and sugar and salt work? Add it into the wok?

      Not sure if I understand 100%, but you can always use chicken broth. And add some salt and sugar. Enjoy

      @@linawatisiu8548 I use 2 cups total, which has shrimp skins simmering with sugar and chicken broth, butter and shrimp skins together. Then, after 15 minutes, I drain it from the shrimp skins and put it in the wok.

      Jasmine rice is our favorite. Three ladies brand it Buddha brand
