It sure was nice to see Ovechkin score his 800th NHL Goal and surpass Gordie Howe for second all time in goals in NHL History! One more hill left to climb, he can do it!

As an avs fan I had to applaud the one he got at Ball arena. That thing was a missile and easily the loudest slap of the night.

Some people think it’s easy to do what he does on the PP. But there’s a reason nobody else can do it at that level. Ovie’s got a very special ability to feel the game and know which shot is best before even shooting. When to shoot short or far, know when to just powder it to beat the goalie there or focus on making a perfect shot, even when to fake the shot, hold it and out wait the goalie. He’s not just standing there launching bombs randomly, he’s very calculated in how he attacks the goalie.
Ovi will probably break Gretzky’s record sometime in the 2024-25 season

For all the pseudo hockey fans commenting on the number of empty net goals Ovi has, you have to understand that you have to put yourself and your team in the position of having the opponent pull their goalie in the first place.
What would it take for the Blues to get a player like Ovechkin?
Why tf wouldn’t you just have a defender shadow him and go 3 vs 4 on the penalty kill? Everyone knows that one timer is coming and the caps soul purpose for the next couple year is to have him break the record.
Because there are other threats out there..maybe not as dangerous as a few years ago but still
6:50 is a great exemple why they can't, he only needs a fraction of a second to score. If you cover him someone else will still be free and has a better chance to score in the slot like Oshie on a one timer... the result stay the same that's why the Caps had one of the best PP in the league for years they are dangerous from anywhere! Kuzy, Backstrom & Carlson also are meisters to find open space for Ovie to release the trigger.

And this without Nick Backstrom and Kuznetsov. So unfortunate that backstrom has been out with injuries and not on the ice with Ovi as he gets closer. How fitting would it be if the record tier and breaker come of of assists from backstrom with the record breaker being his signature slap shot.

the only thing this guy can do now is score empty netters, im still not convinced he’ll pass gretzky lol
He has 6 goals in 6 games and only 1 is empty netter which he still had to work for beat defender in skating something which he probably couldn't do 2 months ago.
