Thumbs up for ceiling fans - we did though replace 7 of the 8 in our home (built in 1988) with more updated models although the ones already there were decent quality and could have stayed although the light kits were really dated. In Ohio we generally get at least 4-6 months without using the AC all the time and fans really help.
I love ceiling fans and I like the older model ones better they move more air and have the classic characteristics that I like. I really liked the one you removed. To bad someone else hated it and probably ended up in the trash
So, if I was to watch this video backwards, would it show how to remove modern LED light and install an antique ceiling fans? Freaking love ceiling fans. The tract home I live in didn't even have ceiling lights in the bedrooms. Installed new, remote only, ceiling fans so that the room had light AND were provided with more affordable/centralized air circulation.
Young 24 year old home owner here. I love em'. My house was part of an estate. Every room in the downstairs with the exception of one room has one. Less time running central air in the summer time and they help move the air in the winter.
We use ceiling fan through out the whole house to distribute the heat and cool air! Better than stagnate air in a room! Especially like the air movement in the bedroom at night for sleeping! But have been upgrading to better fans over the years and using LED bulbs for better light. Thanks for your vids!
Handymen normally hate ceiling fans because now-a-days they come in a box in a million pieces, or pre-assembled and then you first have to dis-assemble them first. I have the process down to 45 minutes. The normal homeowner takes 3 hours. I've never had any one in Texas turn down, or not want a nice ceiling fan. Only in cheap rentals do I replace a fan with a light fixture. The secret is to stick with one brand. I like Harbor Breeze, and you soon learn all the ends and outs of that brand's install.
Wow. I'm in my 30s and you are ABSOLUTELY correct. Those fans are Trashy and Dated!!! I just moved into a low income apartment and guess what was in the dining room?? A gigantic UGLY fan exactly like in ur video. Takes up too much space - cumbersome and gaudy. We have iPhones and electric cars now. Things are sleek and streamlined. I want to live in 2023, not the 60s. When you're poor, you don't want to feel poor too. That fan's goin' down - literally! Thanks for the tutorial!
I think ceiling fans are great. I have Central air and never had ceiling fans prior to installing them in my home and I would never want to go back. It greatly improves the HVAC systems performance as well as the performance of gas logs I installed. As long as they aren’t that old style with the bell type lights and have a basic design, I think they actually improve the look of a room. In many cases that is.
As a handyman, I will change our fans for light fixtures without complaint. I especially like the kind you installed-little or no assembly required. And they are big enough to cover the circle where the fan was. On the other hand, installing a fan in place of a light requires assembly. Most of the fans customers buy today have nearly the same assembly steps as the fans I installed in 1990. A few are a little better, but they all take time. I can charge more for a fan install, but light installs are more profitable.
Richard's Woodshop they are a necessity to anyone anywhere who has any clue what they do when it’s not hot enough for the a/c in the summer or that heat rises and settles near the ceiling when you operate your heater.
I'm in the middle. They have their place and can be useful in some places. I've repaired a lot of them and replaced a lot of them. The newer bladeless designs are nice. I'm torn as they helped on heating cost by pushing warm air trapped at the ceiling down to the rest of the actual living space. They can also help pull cool air up from floor level when the AC is running. With newer HVAC systems, ceiling fans probably don't help with energy costs.
I am totally agree with her and you did a great job. I have 4 fans in our house and they are noisy and cut the spot light beams. I am gonna donate that all.
Something that made my head spin is that I can't understand how in the hell someone can dislike a video like this... Is informative... Lots of people talking about cooling but I've heard that in the winter if you reverse your ceiling fan you can save on heating costs cause it circulates the warm air.
Kinda funny. I just removed all of my ceiling fans and replaced them with similar led lights. I was unaware of the trend, just something I thought of doing myself. But I don't think ceiling fans are trashy, I just think they collect a lot of dust and I never really use them.
Here in AZ, they are a MUST!!!! As long as they are more modern looking, I don't mind ceiling fans at all, I put them in all bedrooms and the main living area for my family for comfort.
What did you do when you found bad insulation on the wiring? The only realy reason I can see for hating ceiling fans is they take a bit more work to clean, I like them myself.
I find ceiling fans are very helpful in really hot weather to circulate the heat. The problem I have is the fan works great, but the light does not. Any ideas what could be the problem? Thank you! Love your videos! I learn alot!
I tend to only use AC when it’s too hot/humid. I like open widows and a breeze. Ceiling fans help, especially in a bedroom. Aesthetically, I like modern designs. I’ve installed many, but in recent years my optical prescription has changed and I can’t see well enough above my head, as I’m looking through the distance part of my lenses. I wonder if I can get glasses made upside down for ceiling work? Or maybe just reading glasses will do?
The RIGHT ceiling fan works especially when it comes to efficiency. Keeps the ac/heat from kicking on every 1 minute eating up electric cost. a good update of a ceiling fan where it's needed the most is an awesome idea. I don't have a preference for them as well but I'm surely going to install one if a client says so lol. That's an easy $85.00
For a tall room, vaulted ceiling or whatever, ceiling fans are a must, especially if it tends to get warm there in the summer, and/or you want to circulate heat in the winter. But in a small room with a low ceiling, they can be annoying, I'd have a box fan or desk fan or window fan in or near the window for small rooms. Exception is in a humid environment, tropics, Carribean etc. Then any air movement is good.
I agree with your customer...I'm a diyer and have 6 ceiling fans to remove...I hate the chains hanging down!! I was hoping you would comment on the light/fan switch on the wall and how to fix it to just turn on the light!
30-something recent first time home buyer here: I've put ceiling fans in the two bedrooms that didn't have them, and will be replacing the older "nasty" fan in my master bedroom at some point (with a new/more modern one). Sometimes you're just so damn hot that not even an air conditioned house is quick enough relief. 3000K LEDs are ideal @ home - every room in my house except my office (4000K) and shop (5000K) uses them. They're more neutral than old incandescents without being "bluish" like 5000K & higher.
commonly referred to yes, like q-tip or band-aid. But Tongue and groove adjustable pliers is the actual name of that tool. But fuck him for properly stating the correct name of a tool in an instructional video right?
They hate ceiling fans because they don't understand how central cooling works. Overworked motors will always burn out quicker than one that is not. Ceiling fans help keep air moving and keep the room cooler, which, in turn, allows the AC to not come on as much.
I like a ceiling fan, most Southern people do. I think they need to limit the light to a single bulb. If you have 8 of these throughout your house with 4 bulbs each, that's a terrible waste of money. Make sure you get one with metal blades for outdoors, the wood will droop from humidity.
🔨the like button! I think it's crazy to take out the ceiling fans... I understand updating them but not removing them completely. However, I do live in AZ where we heat up to 120 and you have an air conditioner, ceiling fan, and two floor fans running with your face in the freezer!
Hahaha~ I got here by simply wanting a tutorial on how to remove an EXTREMELY ugly ceiling fan in my Dad's home. I'm not entirely sure, but think he "customized" the fan blades with floor varnish instead of buying new ones. Of course, he likes shiny things ALSO, so the shiny old school brass is glowing from the ceiling...looks ghetto and the ENTIRE fan/light fixture is sickening filthy! I JUST want to know the simplest way to remove the ENTIRE ugly contraption while he isn't looking...lol.
My ceiling fan has a three way switch for lighting and a separate switch to control the fan. I'm Replacing it with a new light fixture and I want to repurpose the fan switch to control my new bar lights. Would it be appropriate to run new 14 2 wires to replace the existing 14 3 wires that powered the ceiling fan, or simply cap off the red wire in the ceiling fan junction box and run a new 14 2 line from the switch to the bar lights?
It's true, CHEAP ceiling fans look trashy - like the ones in the video and the ones that came with the condo I bought. But get the mid range to upper scale fans and design it specifically with a desired style (me .. farmhouse / rustic) and they become room center pieces. I have zero regrets spending more than usual on fans. I'd have done it sooner had I known how good they could look.
Do you think a non handyman could replace an outdoor ceiling fan/light with a new one? The current one has water pouring through it every time it rains so would a leak have to be fixed for the electric or will a new fan fix the leak and could the electric be dangerous now?
We have a master bedroom with a vaulted ceiling and a mini split hvac. We use the ceiling fan year round and it makes the mini split so much more effective. Not even close.
My 72" fan over my bed runs on high blowing down year round. AC is 68 in summer and heat is set about 62 in winter. Fan blows on high until its death 10 years from now. Still have a tall floor fan blowing over me while i sleep too. It's nice on a 90-100 degree day to still get to cover up under the soft warm blankets.
LOL! I have them in every room. I tend to upgrade every couple of years. In the south it is either a ceiling fan and a reasonable AC setting or no fans and a huge power bill. I recently even had my 20 year old AC unit replaced and still used the fans all summer.
Here in Northern California I have a large 56" or so fan in every medium large size room. They are a godsend in summer where setting the AC on 76 degrees and having the ceiling fans set at 75% speed still boosts my electricity bill to $200 a month. The circulating air from the fans makes life bearable when its 45 celcius 113f outside.
im in the millennial category, in california, god does it suck. But being a professional scuba diver, not much work in the red states... so here i am, a bastion of hope here in cali proving the west coast hasn't gone completely mad.
We have a very modern 72' fan in our bedroom, its DC so its completely silent. Love it! I find its nicer to turn the A/C down slightly and use the fan circulating cool air, VS freezing cold A/C and no fan. I also prefer 4K led lights colour in our new home, I found 5K was too white and 3K was too yellow.
Thank you so much! That is the exact ceiling fan I’m trying to replace now and it was a little confusing. Got it now. We are only putting in a new ceiling fan. I love ceiling fans. My roommate won’t let me put one in the room we hang out in most. Grrr

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@ciana Baltimore Adorable
Young 24 year old home owner here. I love em'. My house was part of an estate. Every room in the downstairs with the exception of one room has one. Less time running central air in the summer time and they help move the air in the winter.
I like ceiling fans in every room with an LED kit. Groovy "do"!
Harbor breeze beach Creek for the win
Come fully assembled? I'd luv that. And u don't have to disassemble the fan to mount it. It's easier and faster to have assembled before u mount it.
Thanks for the tutorial!
she's wrong, but it's her house so she's allowed to be as wrong as she wants.
I’m working on replacing most fixtures in my house with vintage ceiling fans. Mostly hunter originals though!
ciana baltimore just like how nobody asked for your opinion either? My, we have so much in common!
Ceiling fans are a necessity in the south east to supplement AC. There are much nicer looking fans a than the ugly one you removed
Richard's Woodshop they are a necessity to anyone anywhere who has any clue what they do when it’s not hot enough for the a/c in the summer or that heat rises and settles near the ceiling when you operate your heater.
6:32 my opinion on ceiling fans is that they are AMAZING and that people should not hate on them so much. Great video by the way!
I've been an electrician for about 5 years now, I think ceiling fans are great!👍🏻
🤗
Lester, the millennials sure don't like ceiling fans...…….
I am totally agree with her and you did a great job. I have 4 fans in our house and they are noisy and cut the spot light beams. I am gonna donate that all.
Something that made my head spin is that I can't understand how in the hell someone can dislike a video like this... Is informative... Shows you how to do stuff that probably you didn't have a clue before... You out the time and effort to produce the content and give it for free to anyone....
Honestly... I think is moronic!!!
Charging camera battery.. setting up tripods be aware of lighting.. editing over all things takes a huge amount of time... Uploading and someone just hits the thumb down because he/she can???
Grow up people!!!
Probably ceiling fan fans.
@@GeekRedux all I have to say is that would be FAN- tastic if you show respect for the time and effort of the handyman... Even if you hate fans...
But haters will be there always...
So it's a FANcy FANtasy...
No pun intended though....
Sorry ....And by you I mean all of us... Watching this videos...
Probably due to the title
I had a friend as a teenager who would dislike every video he came across just to make some kind of impact and be contrarian. The idea that 1/425 viewers is an edgy teenager mad at the world doesn't sound too far off to me
Lots of people talking about cooling but I've heard that in the winter if you reverse your ceiling fan you can save on heating costs cause it circulates the warm air.
I told the guy I was working for and he said wrap it all with electrical tape.
That's what I figured, I doubt many people would go right to replacing an entire line from a simple job like that.
Dave that wold have been the proper repair.
You know, I have some of that heat shrink tubing, but I've never actually used it for anything besides reinforcing charging cables.
I find ceiling fans are very helpful in really hot weather to circulate the heat. The problem I have is the fan works great, but the light does not. Any ideas what could be the problem? Thank you! Love your videos! I learn alot!
I like ceiling fans but I'm currently removing a lilac one from my bathroom. Not sure what the previous owners were thinking.
They liked the lilac fan before you were there. Simple
@@MD-wq6on I meant the fan in the bathroom, the room is too small for it.
I needed this video , thanks!!!! Handy Andy is your mascot, Halloween special with him would be awsome!
I love antique ceiling fans. They're nice to look at, and they serve a purpose.
Me too
The ending was...the absolute best
No! Let’s go Ceiling fans!
Guess I'm trashy I love my ceiling fans , makes a difference on HVAC cost aswell
Ceiling fans are for those of us who have better things to do than throw money out the window.
Ok boomer
Jake Z lol
Ceiling fans are the key to comfort here in the southwest. Plan on adding three more to my home before next summer.
Wisdom is gained the longer you live. The joke is always at the expense of the inexperienced.
I agree with your customer...I'm a diyer and have 6 ceiling fans to remove...I hate the chains hanging down!! I was hoping you would comment on the light/fan switch on the wall and how to fix it to just turn on the light!
Ridiculous. Trashy? How about I like air.
@ciana Baltimore two years later...
As someone whom lives in the hot, humid south, ceiling fans, the bigger the better, are an absolute must.
my room would be so stuffy without a ceiling fan
30-something recent first time home buyer here: I've put ceiling fans in the two bedrooms that didn't have them, and will be replacing the older "nasty" fan in my master bedroom at some point (with a new/more modern one). Sometimes you're just so damn hot that not even an air conditioned house is quick enough relief.
3000K LEDs are ideal @ home - every room in my house except my office (4000K) and shop (5000K) uses them. They're more neutral than old incandescents without being "bluish" like 5000K & higher.
Tongue and groove pilers? All pilers that look like that are channel locks no matter the brand.
commonly referred to yes, like q-tip or band-aid. But Tongue and groove adjustable pliers is the actual name of that tool. But fuck him for properly stating the correct name of a tool in an instructional video right?
Back when I was a teen (Flintstone era) we used to call them water pump pliers. I don't know why, as I never saw any use for them on water pumps
They hate ceiling fans because they don't understand how central cooling works. Overworked motors will always burn out quicker than one that is not. Ceiling fans help keep air moving and keep the room cooler, which, in turn, allows the AC to not come on as much.
That light is more ugly than the fan. Dead serious.
youre right
I like a ceiling fan, most Southern people do. I think they need to limit the light to a single bulb. If you have 8 of these throughout your house with 4 bulbs each, that's a terrible waste of money. Make sure you get one with metal blades for outdoors, the wood will droop from humidity.
I work with a guy just like Handy Andy. Some stereotypes are real lol
I see guys like him all over town. He is the typical small contractor/handyman
Like the Village People outfit 👍🏻
It's true, CHEAP ceiling fans look trashy - like the ones in the video and the ones that came with the condo I bought. But get the mid range to upper scale fans and design it specifically with a desired style (me .. farmhouse / rustic) and they become room center pieces. I have zero regrets spending more than usual on fans. I'd have done it sooner had I known how good they could look.
I like ceiling fans
If you live in Florida, even with a working AC system, it's always best to have as many ceiling fans in your home for comfort throughout the summer.
She’s a fanist
An antifanist 🤪😜🤣
I see what you did there... 👏👏👏
Do you think a non handyman could replace an outdoor ceiling fan/light with a new one? The current one has water pouring through it every time it rains so would a leak have to be fixed for the electric or will a new fan fix the leak and could the electric be dangerous now?
I must be trashy, I love a ceiling fan
yea you are trashy lol.... takes one to know one i just installed 3 of them
We have a master bedroom with a vaulted ceiling and a mini split hvac. We use the ceiling fan year round and it makes the mini split so much more effective. Not even close.
I’m liking these handy man skits at the end
😒
My 72" fan over my bed runs on high blowing down year round. AC is 68 in summer and heat is set about 62 in winter. Fan blows on high until its death 10 years from now. Still have a tall floor fan blowing over me while i sleep too. It's nice on a 90-100 degree day to still get to cover up under the soft warm blankets.
i think people are really just against ugly ceiling fans, like the one you took down.
That one was already hanging on the ceiling when "Dallas" premiered on television.
ceiling fans are the best, have in every bedroom, kitchen and family room.
she was trying to repay you lol..
he musta not seen that movie, or its sequels with the plumber or the pizza guy
Chris Lamoureux. YEP right on..
Love mine. I don't have central heat or a/c. Helps the wall unit more air around. Does the same for my wood burning stove. Couldn't live without them.
You crack me up!!! 😂😂😂😂I love ceiling fans!!! I would of waited until you left to lie on the bed..... awkward situation 😉
maybe she wanted him to jump her....husband is a limp d**k millenial.
@@Ciana_Baby
You can't do anything about it!
ciana baltimore you really replied this to like every comment do you have anything better to do
LOL! I have them in every room. I tend to upgrade every couple of years. In the south it is either a ceiling fan and a reasonable AC setting or no fans and a huge power bill. I recently even had my 20 year old AC unit replaced and still used the fans all summer.
😂 he doesn’t live in Texas, we have them on the patio too 🤣
Great channel 🎈
Here in Northern California I have a large 56" or so fan in every medium large size room. They are a godsend in summer where setting the AC on 76 degrees and having the ceiling fans set at 75% speed still boosts my electricity bill to $200 a month. The circulating air from the fans makes life bearable when its 45 celcius 113f outside.
You must be in the north east. LOL.
i love a modern ceiling fan! like when the light ring is around the blades
Brain dead millennials at it again.
Love your post here. Millennials just crack me up !
im in the millennial category, in california, god does it suck. But being a professional scuba diver, not much work in the red states... so here i am, a bastion of hope here in cali proving the west coast hasn't gone completely mad.
People in their forties aren't millennials.
@John Jacob
he said younger.....then said 30s and early forties. Move along.
Listen again because that's not what he said.
We have a very modern 72' fan in our bedroom, its DC so its completely silent. Love it! I find its nicer to turn the A/C down slightly and use the fan circulating cool air, VS freezing cold A/C and no fan.
I also prefer 4K led lights colour in our new home, I found 5K was too white and 3K was too yellow.
i havent seen your vids in a couple months but LOVE how your crazy creative side is coming out in that outro. KEEP MAKING VIDS!!!
Thank you so much! That is the exact ceiling fan I’m trying to replace now and it was a little confusing. Got it now. We are only putting in a new ceiling fan. I love ceiling fans. My roommate won’t let me put one in the room we hang out in most. Grrr
