i was originally gonna skip this device, but im glad i didnt. Super awesome build and perfect to bring anywhere. love that you dont need a case for it, plus the battery life is really good, too! i dont think this one can be beat when it comes to clamshells. anbernic hit a homerun for damn sure. great video bro!
My concern is the clicky controls being annoying to people around me I.e. waiting at a restaurant, medical office or in line etc. Is the clickyness only audible to the user, or loud enough to be hard by people a few feet away?
@@tappersreviews4677 the room would have to be absolutely silent in order for it to bother people. so yes, in bed next to someone at night, in an extremely quiet medical office waiting room like you said, you would be able to clearly hearing the buttons being pressed. but in an area with a little more noise (restaurant, public transportation, airport etc.) it's not going to bother anyone and i doubt anyone would notice. it needs to be dead silent to be noticeable.
Ordered one the other day, can't wait to get it in! I got the black one because my original GBA SP was black and I wanted something to match.

Those SD cards are Toshiba. I’ve had good luck with them
Kioxia are Toshiba owned, totally fine cards. I bought a whole stock of them at one point. Never had one fail on me, Usually pretty well priced too.👍

I was considering buying this ( I already have the rg35xx plus ) but those clicky buttons are a no no for me.

It’s easy to fix the clicky buttons with Kapton tape. There is a video tutorial for the SP out in RUclips

Yes, the dmg one also made me double back from getting it because of those beige bezels/borders. Idk, I think because it isn’t black it makes the screen look more small than what it already is and I think the black border also helps with the aesthetic when you’re playing gba with the gba sp bezel applied. But I’m glad I went with silver instead. Really wish they made a cobalt blue one though, had one when I was a kid and it got lost to time.
Yeah, I wish they added more of the original color options too 💔 Still, I love Anbernic for making this one

This is the most passionate review (first look) from you I've seen to date! Ordered mine day one and been loving it every single moment playing everything to GBA to DS games that don't require 2 screens to be shown at the same time.

What kind of charger do you use? There are lots of voices, saying one need to use old 1,5A charger. Is it so?
I have a silver SP
I use a 5v2A charger for all my handhelds. It works perfect for them.
Hey Javi! Have you noticed stuttering in the stock firmware? It looks like it's been present since January in Anbernic software. Watch Taki Udon's "We need to talk" video at around 4 minutes for more information.

I have not seen many people talking about this but, would you have any thoughts about the temperature of the handheld while you are using it? i saw its around 40-50 Celsius when playing. Is it noticiable? That would be a deal breaker for me
It's not noticeable for me. I going spend alot more time with it to tell you for sure on the full review but its cool. I haven't actually noticed it warming my hands.
Hey Javi, I just received mine, and I want to switch to a name brand SD, is it the same process as the H to upgrade the Firmware ? By downloading the the firmware for the SP of course from the Anbernic website. BTW, the firmware for the SP on their site is 46GB (wow!), Im guessing it comes with the ROMS
I just swapped mine. The only firmware on their website is a 64GB version. You need to download it and when it's done extract. Then, take the 14 parts and extract it again to create one 64GB image. Once you have that image, you can use rufus to flash it. Its kinda annoying tbh but good luck

Can you swap the SD cards around from device to device?
Like the 35XX SP card into the 28XX or the 35XX H into the 35XX Plus etc...?
Some CWF yes. Not the stock. For example the SP has hinge specific software so it can detect when its closed and goes to sleep.
If you use double SD (SD 1 for the operating system and SD 2 for games), SD 2 for games will work in all XX consoles.
Well.. i have multiple consoles so i bought the RG35XX PLUS so i don t have to sit down and i can play while laying down on bed .., Would you find this SP version confortable to play laying down or on your side in bed?, haha sounds silly but its a serious question..
Honestly yeah. I’m one of those weirdos who play just like you sometimes. I found it fairly comfortable as long as the game wasn’t too dependent on using shoulder buttons.
Yes absolutely
I also bought the plus and the SP is currently in my pocket.. you can comfortably game in any of your contortionist positions. There's a good deal of adjustment to be had with a clamshell screen too so you're not forced to play with your hands in a specific position
I have a micro SD card like the one you show in the video, "Kioxia" I bought it in a local store a few months ago here in Spain, only mine is 16GB, I don't know if they are good or not but I bought it in a store that I sold them... 🤷🏻♂

I had the metallic red my whole family pulled together got it for my 10th bday. We were poor it was my childhood portal to the amazing. I got that silver too it's primo. Got a dmg in a trade it went to my 9 yr old. He be flexing yo. Just like old times.

I had passed on this one. I guess I’m in the minority that I really enjoy handhelds with joysticks. Having the xxplus and the h, I went with a second h. Greats deals right now. Lol. But after seeing your video, I changed my mind and will get the shell but will wait for a sale. I still think the H is the best handheld for the price and for everything it offers. Javi, what are your thoughts on the RG Cube? It looks interesting. However, I also own the 556 and with the current deals not sure if I would pay more for the Cube. Perhaps a second 556. Lol. Love your channel man.
A joystick is always nice, but a lot of time you dont need it, you know. That's kind of how Ide use it. My favorite game system to play is gba anyway, so it's an easy choice for me. I think its smart to wait for a sale to pick one up. Aliexpress has choice deals at the beginning of every month. That why if its not something for you at least you didnt pay full price and sell it on the second hand market. Im sure these will sell fast. I agree the H is still the better device objectively because its horizontal and has joysticks and stereo sound. As far the RG Cube its a really interesting concept. I know alot of people ask for something like this 1x1 touch screen with power but if you already have a Rg556 thats probably better. There was no mention of an Oled panel on the Rg Cube so its an IPS. Personally I think the RG556 maybe the better buy especially for android games

it's almost my dream, I need this form factor that is able to play untill PS2, so all retro games with native 4:3 aspect ratio can fit there.
maybe 1-2 more years they will release same form factor with better spec... I hope.

I have the 35xx plus and I love this 35xxsp and I will buy it but not yet... it is very expensive now and they are presenting some errors that I don't like at all... like the cpu next to the battery... I will wait a few months to lower the price and in case they release a new review of this console... and not regret buying it at this time... it is very expensive at the moment in a few months it will drop in price as they always do, now we are going to pay the price novelty i think...
It's not the only console that has the battery ''above'' the CPU (it doesn't rest anyway. There's a space between the two). The RG35XX H also has the battery ''above'' the CPU and none of it exploded.. 🤷♀
@@_marta30_44 I know this but I mention it because there are many people complaining about it, I think they must have been units that already came with some factory defect... I really don't know... but I do know that I am going to buy it in a few months when it is a little cheaper

Does anyone know if Pico 8 can be played natively on this device?
The device comes with pico 8 already loaded. It also had celeste on it so I was playing that earlier right out of the box. They have a handful of ports as well so I was playing quake on it right out of the box. Those were on the 64gb card too so no need to get the 128gb extra sd unless you have a need for a shit ton of extra games.
Are all the Pokemon gba games already pre loaded on the this device? If so that’s all I need to know to purchase this dream console.

Never liked clam shell design of the GBA. The og form factor is still vastly superior imo. Which is why I love other horizontal devices the ayn odin 2 mini(based on vita), Ayn odin 2 and rp3 plus which are perfect for more powerful consoles to emulate plus media consumption and streaming games.
But I can't deny this device looked premium and gorgeous. Heard they already made various custom firmware for it.
Is it better than Myioo mini plus ?
We’ll see once CFW comes out for it. Part of what makes the MM+ so great is the firmware
In terms of power, yes, this SP is better than the Miyoo Mini Plus. Just as the RG35XX PLUS and the RG35XX H are also better than the Miyoo Mini Plus
