Miss the L-1011. I was the Captain for this aircraft since the day it started service with delta and until the very end until retirement. will forever miss the L-1011. ;(
My Dad was one of the first Delta Captains on the L-1011 in the early 1970's. He loved the plane, especially the unique hum of the Rolls-Royce RB211 engines when thrust was applied. I miss him and the L-1011 very much. Thanks for the memories.
I flew on a DL Tristar in 1985 when I was a kid, DFW-LAX with my grandmother and sister. I remember that these and DC-10s used to shake during takeoff. This was the only jetliner that Lockheed made, and it was a graet plane.
Thanks for such a nice tribute to the Great Lockheed L1011 TriStar. You did a nice job presenting the feel of its long life with Delta Air Lines showing the happy times flying with grace and beauty to the sad present state of life as it is now in the desert . Well Done!!!
Such a beautiful airplane. It was incredibly advanced for its time. I'm thankful that my father has logged some time in this beauty. He flew it as a Flight Engineer and a Copilot. This was also for Delta. I vaguely remember them, as I was very young when they started to be retired. I always called them the L-ten and eleven
Great tribute to Delta's L-1011 Tristar. My first flight on Delta's Tristar was in February 1977 ATL-MCO. My last flight was in the year 2000 MCO-ATL. In between those year I flew this aircraft on many routes: ATL-LAX; LAX-HNL; HNL-DFW; ATL-LGA; LGA-FLL; JFK-ATL, ATL-FLL and my longest flight was HNL-ATL. A great aircraft and it is still missed.
I agree the most beautiful bird ever to grace the skies! I was hooked when I boarded my 1st Delta L-1011 age 16 in 1st class offered me champagne but I was amazed at the size and sheer luxury of it, and the hospitality of Delta (early 80's) wide-bodied jets everywhere! Delta still the best, love the old livery though, miss those days boarding that beauty, i got so excited for take off and hearing the sound of those RR engines! What a beautiful piece you put together, s STUNNER!!
I miss these planes! We always took Delta to visit relative in Alabama. Always the redeye out of LAX to Atlanta. This plane always looked so amazing when you saw it out of the windows at the boarding gates. The color, look and sound of Delta's L-1011's are missed by me.
very moving music and brilliant video. The Tristar is an amazing beast. Aesthetically pleasing too. I remember flying on Air Lanka (L-1011-500) as a kid.
I need to dig up my photos from the last revenue flight, I can't believe it's been over 10 years now. Hard to believe I used to see these multiple times a day and now never again. That classic Delta widget just fits the tristar perfectly.
I loved that airplane,...It just felt right in the air and was beautifully balanced. It could really take on a number of roles. Unfortunately, Lockheed didn't make a profit on the design, and those beautiful Rolls Royce engines were so costly to develop and engineer, that it bankrupted R & R and delayed the roll-out of the L-1011. That being said, I still LOVE the plane. I wish Delta was still flying them. Great tribute video, too
This is the most beautiful airplane I have ever laid eyes on... Reminds me of our forgotten AMERICAN past (BIG comfortable cars, powerful & quiet 8cyl engines with incredible torque, and both 2 & 4 door sedans that were able to carry more people then todays SUV's, etc). Between the aviation, auto, and other dormant american born industries... it appears as if we've either lost our EDGE or our BALLS...???!!! "Dam it, I WANT MY COUNTY BACK !!!"
Our first trip to Ireland on a Delta L-10 was 1 of a very pleasant flight. Next 3 were on A Boeing 757, 767 & last a 777. The 767 & 757 were okay, but the Triple 7, has 2 rest rooms in tourist class. Going over at night, there was a line all night long in both aisles to use the rest rooms. The 777 compared to the L-10; is like comparing a C-47 to a DC-7. The 777, being the C-47. I will never fly on a 777 anymore. It just plain Sux. jmho.
@DeltaL1011TriStar: No Problem! Some of the footage - old Delta commericals from the eighties - was taken from the Delta archives, but most of the video was created using raw footage of Captain Arnold’s final flight to Victorville. I created this tribute video of the L1011 for the same reasons you describe. I’m not sure what you mean when you say “other must feel the same because my comment s was described as spam”.
I think only Lockheed made airliners that were always things of design beauty as well as great machines. It is a real shame they did not stay in the airliner business.
They said she´s to Heavy .. They Said the 1011 was to Slow, that she needs to much Jet A1.. But I say .. She is PERFECT !! And as a European who grew up next to a Airport .. i miss Her =( ..
i'm an Airbus Fan,but i need Say,the L-1011 Is much Beatful,on my option,he is The ONLY REAL Good plane from USA,Sad End,R.I.P. All Tristars Around teh World
I worked for Airbus and we curb-stomped both the L-1011 with our a300/a310 series of aircraft. We broke Lockheed's back and cast them out of the commercial aircraft market forever. Lockheed wanted to be a Big Dig, but didn't have the bite to run with the pack.
The L-1011 is my 3rd Fav. Plane,Very Sad se how he ends your carrer in Majoave,i think that needs have a Museu for him,Like The Concorde, because he is more than a Classical, luxous,Beatful,Comfortable Plane,he is...,I Can't Say Nothing
The Delta MD-80-90 became a cheap replacement, followed by 737,,then Air Bus,,,,But Hey at least the seats look like they are made out of leather or really nice Pleather! Dealta Sucks, the service is shise and the flight attendents are rude even when you are senseriously polite to them!!!!!!!!!!!!! I miss flying in the 1990's on this Cadillac of the Skys--DC--10 though Beautifull, does not come close to this Engineering Marvel who's life was cut short!!!!!!!!!!
The 1011 was a great plane for its day, but, to say we've lost our edge or balls is dumb. Yes dumb. Boeing is a great company which continues to build cutting edge planes. The 777, 787 and 747-8i are amazing aircraft. I for one am proud of the America that is striving to be better and smarter. You want excess? Buy a Cadillac with a V8, but, don't whine that you have become too fat and old to still get laid on the back seat. LOL.

I cried watching this, the most majestic and beautiful jet ever designed, The L1011
was what made Delta what it is today

gosh I wish I go back in time to relive around that time frame when these delta's L1011s were in service.

Great video!!
I still have TriStar alive and well in the world of flight simulation!!
wow, wot a great tribute to the true lady of the skies! thanks!
Very nice compilation of the L10!
@DYLAV8R I cried also...my grandpa R.I.P. loved to fly on this plane...brings back memories....

This is the original icon symbol of Delta

The L-1011 TriStar was way Superior to Anything Airbus could manufacture. Then or Now. I'd take Boeing over Airbus any day.
does delta have a muesum for the l1011 ?
Actually, Pan Am made Delta what it is today. If it weren't for them, Delta would have the international network it has today.
The CADILLAC of the skies...

Great footage of my favorite plane, but please don't put irrelevant music over the top of an existing soundtrack, especially one with narration.
