After months of waiting for another desk, ruclips.net/user/postUgkxMAlHv7-BBWMrPRm5-uEoD6rtdT7SG2Qr I finally canceled the order and went with the Belleze black and gold. It fits perfectly in my office and the drawers are a nice feature (keeps the clutter off my desk for more room to work!) It's modern but sophisticated. My husband got it assembled in less than an hour. The only negative is that it leaves prints! I wound up complementing it with a large desk mat/mouse pad (which also helps to prevent scratches) so no more fingerprints! Overall a nice desk for the cost!

Thanks so much for this video! I just chalk painted my dining table and when I distressed it with the sandpaper it left the chalky look on top that you showed, and I thought it was totally ruined. I was ready to toss the table, then I found your video showing the chalky look after sanding is normal. I went ahead and applied the polyacrylic on top still in doubt the outcome, but once it dried it was absolutely gorgeous. Thanks to you, my table was saved!! Thank you, thank you!!!❤️

I really hate this part of chalk paint. Cause I love sanding to smooth but hate the cloudiness it causes.
Makes me reluctant to apply clear coat even though everyone promises it will be OK.
I think its probably only an issue for us noobies.. seems to get easier when you have more experience.

@@MK-ih6wp yes I know how you’re feeling. I had already sanded my table before finding this tutorial & my table was cloudy and dull after I sanded it. I took a damp cloth & wiped it down & it was still cloudy LOL
But thankfully I found this tutorial and bit the bullet & put the polycrylic on it and the cloudy dull chalky finish totally disappeared. I was ecstatic & I’ve received a lot of compliments on my table. I’ve since done 2 bar stools that turned out beautifully too!

@@sarahbecker927 I'm pretty new to this, too! I just painted some metal patio chairs a bright turquoise color that looks vibrant & lovely, until I sand it.
I am holding off on sealing it for now while I do more research.
In the past, I've had polycrylic turn yellow on me after being out in the sun. Yellow + turquoise will look awful so I am looking for UV-safe options.

Well any painted surface wears over time kind of gives it that authentic distressed look, you can reapply wax and buff or repoly over time or even repaint . It is so easy to repaint chalk paint . I painted my dining table several years ago , I have 4 kids and a large family and use the table ALOT, it has held up just fine! I have rewaxed over the years. I hope this helps!!😊

If you don’t like the light finish to come through with a dark chalk paint, should you stain the furniture a darker stain first? Also, I have dark cherry end tables and wonder if I’d prefer white over it for a good contrast or a black or gray paint... just wondering your thoughts on what would look best. Which brushes and brand of chalk paint do you like best?

Hi Cindy, I love Paint Pixie brushes... You will too.. As far as dark popping out, you could use a dark wax. Also you can layer chalk paint if you want. Meaning the darker color underneath so when you distress you will see the color coming out!! Happy Painting!

Stephanie Jo Rountree 😐 I’m sorry to have to point it out but she actually did, quite clearly too. She said she used cleaner first (I’m not rewinding it to hear that part again for this purpose, but having a healthy amount of common sense I’m going to assume she meant any regular degreaser or relative cleaning product, then she def said she used a deglosser & then vintager & water. I really don’t know how she could’ve/would’ve made those extremely simple steps any clearer. 😬

Hi Stephanie... I wanted to reply to your question...After you sand, you can use the deglosser and water and wipe clean or if you do not need to degloss you can use an air hose to remove all debris from the table top. I always try to use a rag that is lint free. I couldnt add every single step in the video or it would have been tool long, I am sorry for the confusion. My first chair is Dixie Belle Navy, I wanted the seat to have a shine and put on 1 clear coat. I went back to my teacher and we painted a second chair. She suggested Gator Hide but now I have 1 chair with a flat appearance and 1 with a bit of shine from 1 clear coat. Will they match if I paint with Gator Hide?

I love your tutorial! It was exactly what I was looking for. That said, I have an old table I picked up at the thrift store. The top was pretty beat up so I sanded it and discovered it veneer was very thin. It also came with three leaves. Do I put them in when I paint the table, or do them separately?

What kind of topcoat would you recommend for a white dining table so that it doesn’t yellow?

  • @denasimoneaux

What grit of sand paper do you use in the beginning to start sanding down your table?
So your shopping list would be:
    Chalk paint
    Deglosser
    Brillo pad
    Sponge
    Gloves
    Sandpaper 220 grit
    Water based polyurethane sealer
    Clean dry lint free cloth
    Chalk paint brush
    Poly foam brush (Not craft)
Did I miss anything? I will be painting my kitchen table, since we are quarantine and I am not furloughed from work. Looking for projects for around the house. And this is one I have been wanting to do for a while. 🙂 thank you so much. 😀

i usually use a 180 grit to start my table, i use 220 grit for the finish sanding. Happy Painting!!

Please advise, if you use a lighter chalk color and want to use a darker shade to distress or enhance areas, will you recommend poly or a wax sealer ... I've seen dark waxes in the msrket ... thanks

Hello and thank you for the message, I am so sorry this is so late for a reply... When using dark waxes over light paint it can turn the color dingy so always practice on an area first... I always recommend painting with the darker color underneath your lighter color so when you distress you can see the layers and the dark will show through. I hope that helps. Maybe I will share a video showing this process.

I enjoyed your video. I’m looking to chalk paint an old drop leaf table that has a horrible top.
My question is: what about dining on it? Won’t sweating glasses or steamy plates and platters or spills make irreversible marks? I hope you have a good answer so I can do it this way. I hate stripping and staining etc. yuk.

Well over the years I do know that Chalk Paint maybe is not the most durable product for a table top, but the BEST part is the fact you can change or repair/touch up easily. You can quickly sand the top and re coat if you would like and reseal. I do recommend using actually more than 2 coats for a table top that is used often. But also, distressed chalk paint is just that... It creates a worn and distressed look. Which either you love or not!! I am not sure if this helped enough. I do have many other videos on my facebook page including another dining room table LIVE painting video where I painted my dining table right in my dining room.. Another plus about chalk paint!! Thank you again for watching!!

You sealed it with what? I keep repeating that part but I have no idea what the "poly" word your using.

    • @michalinaagiewka6873

The sealant is called polyurethane or poly for short.

    • @JeanneCrackel
      @JeanneCrackel  4 года назад +1

Sorry, Yes I used a poly acrylic sealant. A water based sealant product so it does not yellow or have a too strong an odor and dries quickly!!

I have a huge ikea pine dining table I would love to chalk paint but I would do my brushstrokes the other way, the length of the table top to elongate it! Is there a finish you can use on top to add a tiny bit of shine and at the same time sealing it?

    • @JeanneCrackel
      @JeanneCrackel  4 года назад

Hi Gina... So doing that long of brush strokes may be a bit difficult... You can use a gloss Poly acrylic to seal it with a bit of a shine.. I hope this helps.

I sanded my table down and stained it but then sanded the stain off for a distressed look. Not happy with how it turned out. Can I chalk paint it now?
