We actually made and stained the tabletop, painted the base so far! We will be removing old cane rush from each of the chairs, making new chair bases using plywood, plan to upholster the chairs, and I am crocheting a new tablerunner! A ton of work but well worth it. The whole kitchen will look amazing just because of the new look. Thanks for inspiring me to just do it!!!!

That’s beautiful. You can you an ergonomic paint scraper to get that top coat of varnish off. It’s faster and won’t gum up your sanding pads like that.
I want to do the exact same thing as you did. I have the same exact table and chairs. I have never done anything like this before. Would you help me with the list of things to buy? Everything from the size/number of the sand paper to the different types of paint/stain/wax or whatever else you think I need. The only thing I have is the stapler. Also, do you think 2 yards of fabric would be ok for 6 chairs? Thank you so much 🤗
If it has a fresher finish, newer, smother is what will help u keep it clean! Any color just needs to be smooth I have a brown wooden table, darker wood lol. The chairs are black and have a cushion. It is so hard to keep clean it’s a nice table heavy. It needs a little lice and will be easier to enjoy for sure!
Are you going to spray your material on your chairs? With scotch guardthat will prevent spills and stains to a point and then between again. You can come back and vacuum and spongeother code if you want to keep it coated

I would use aluminum oxide sandpaper. It’s much better quality and doesn’t gum up as bad with the old varnish. 60 grit then 180 or 220 grit.

If you can stay away from a bunch of dips and creases in the wood. Fancy edges lol my table legs have way to much character w kids it sucks…
