  • RACE VLOG | Thank you for all your support! You're great! Leave your comments & experiences below.
I've completed the Cotswold Way 100 once before, but this was a very different experience and one which required some reflection and thought.
Accepting that you won't finish a race is something most of us will go through at some point, and for me, this was a first DNF.
Just some of my thoughts and how I plan to move forward!

Just had my first DNF.. I’ve seen various channel hosts have them, and thought, oh just part of challenge, but until experiencing it didn’t think how much it does impact you. Much lower distance uts50, timed out at the 3rd aid station.. but I can now see the errors I made on the day, and know I need more quad work in training.. and possibly some training runs in Wales..
The lakes is too far away 🙁
    Onwards and upwards! 👍🏼
Have another 50k in wales coming up.. its made me very nervous.

Just had my first DNF at the NDW100 and was somehow steered towards your video (AI algorithms?!). Like you it was not my first 100 having also completed the SDW100 previously but now overanalyising what went wrong and trying to take away the positives. I will certainly attempt it again as it is unfinished business but have also now added the Cotswold Way Century to the list of races to do. Thanks for creating the video and sharing your story. Always good to hear when things don't go according to plan, a well as when they do. Good luck for any future attempts.

Thanks for stopping by! Sorry to hear about your NDW experience. I went through an analysing, 'grieving' stage afterwards and didn't really come up with a specific reason other than my fuelling and hydration failed and I lost all drive to continue. I'll be doing the Cotswold Way again next year, like as you say, it's unfinished business. Best of luck to you!

I am doing a 100K race in 10 days time in the Cotswold. Will aim at a steady pace through the race and have not set a time frame. Just aiming to finish. Did the Yorkshire Three Peaks a few days ago (steady pace again) and that worked for me.

Best of luck! Is that Race to the Tower? I have a few friends doing that one (if it is). Amazing scenery and route. All the best!

Great video. I'm running it this year and really great to get your insights into what happened. Its my first 100 miler so it's a stark reminder to give it the respect it deserves.

Thanks for watching and best of luck for this year! I'll be marshalling at the Coaley Peak aid station so say hi! The CW100 was my first 100miler as well in 2019 and so last year I wanted to crack 24hrs. Something didn't click early on, hence I bowed out. I'll be back. It is a great route but the hills are relentless. Best of luck!

This says everything about ultra running ….putting your body and mind against the challenge. Never certain and always unknown things happen. I’ve done a few ultras but never taken on a 100 miler …. Thanks for your videos and reflections always gritty and honest - brilliant stuff ! On with the next and wishing you the best of luck 🤞

An honest video and remember it's about what you did achieve not what you didn't...having run further than most people/runners would ever do in one go. Best of luck with the training.

Great video and made me a bit emotional hearing you decide to not continue. I was on the start line with you but was at the back of the field for most of it. I was timed out at the 71 mile checkpoint which was pretty heart breaking. Sole aim this year is to come back and conquer it, and this video is some great fuel to get out and train :)

Thanks so much! This was my first ever DNF and it was a tough decision. I’ll be back one day. Well done for getting so far, the experience will see you through to completion this year! Best of luck!

Your videos are super-motivational! Words of wisdom alongside some great scenery :). I absolutely love your video from SDW, this video is compulsory for those who prepare for 100 miler. Keep on running and sharing your experience!

Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed! I've always wanted to bring an honest account of what it takes to do these endurance events. There will be more coming so thank you for your support. Are you looking to do any ultras next year? Which ones? Take care.

I would recommend going back, you're a strong runner and whenever I've done this race it's either been DNF or sub 24... in hindsight I'm happy with the DNFs but still took time for me to reflect on it in a positive way. Arriving in Bath on Sunday morning is a great feeling and well worth the effort

The observation in the video about goals stuck out to me. In my first marathon, I had A,B, and C goals in my head, but really it was A or DNF .... I just didn't know it. The irony was that I DNF'd but I had miscalculated and was on track to hit my A goal. What I learned is that nominal goals aren't particularly relevant when you're in a state of fatigue. I had trained only for A, but not sufficiently. B and C were just made up.

Sorry it didn’t work out for you on the day, I, sure you’ll be back for another go at it, I think a training Vlog would be good to see especially for me as someone who’s only done one 100k and would be good to see how you train for the longer events 🙂

    • @CotswoldTrailRunner
      @CotswoldTrailRunner  2 года назад +1

Thanks for the support. I'll be back one day to put that one to bed. Next year I may focus on slightly shorter distances (100k etc). The training vlog sounds like a good way forward for me. To keep me motivated and hopefully have some people who can join me in the training for their own race goals!
